Click to report rating    8/21/17   1     1     1     1     1   Camp Woodward is a money sucking company that promotes sports for the rich and famous, but not the hard working people. My 13 year old daughter was going to Woodward with her gymnastics team. The week before she was set to go, she was injured and was told she could no long do gymnastics. I called right away to let them know. I completely understood not getting the deposit back, however these are athletes and injuries can occur at anytime. they told me they would credit it account for the following year. I told them 5 times that my daughter will never be able to do gymnastics again, but policy was policy. $1400 and no sympathy. I explained that I was a single parent and paid a little every month to pay off the huge one week tuition. The rude gentleman did not want to hear what I had to say. If you look up Woodward, it clear that with their many locations all over the world, my little tuition would not put them out of business. RID: 51267
Click to report rating    1/18/17   1     1     1     1     1   Wow, where do I begin?? No supervision, no counselors (only a 'bunk dad'), lots of boredom and anything besides skating worth DOING OR EATING has to be PAID FOR - Pizza, smoothies, coffee bar (for my 9 year old??), go cart rides, etc. My 9 year old son was there for 2 weeks. He wanted to 'Design a skate deck' and ended up purchasing a $200 skateboard by the end of the activity! He exceeded his allowance so I got a call to see if I wanted to give him more $! I got into a massive fight with the owner of the camp and he defended his camp in every single way, telling me its the 'BEST CAMP IN THE WORLD'. I got my $ back but the owner definitely does not care for negative feedback. On the day between his 1st & 2nd week, he was bunk-less and bunk-dad-less - completely on his own. He called me crying because he didn't know what to do and was EXHAUSTED. He came home with a dreadlock from showering TWICE in 2 weeks and 6 POUNDS LIGHTER!!! He skipped dinner every night and no one cared. RID: 50364

3/16/16   2     5     3     2     3   The cabins are in horrible shape. The water pressure resembles the same as a sputtering sink. Counsellors are not there for the kids, they are there more for themselves and the facilities. Lots of judgement, especially towards beginners. Being a skateboarder, it's often you'll hear your group talk trash about the beginner skaters and ****-shame the cheerleaders. The pre-paid cafeteria food is iffy, and causes kids to spend 7 dollars on a slice of mediocre pizza. The entire place is one big, gross mess. The facilities are amazing, but you'll see blood stains, Gatorade spills, even slices of pizza all over the park. Nobody comes to clean it up, so kids are slipping around in filth. Don't expect much from the Nurse. You could have cancer and she'd tell you to ice it. The boys here come for an excuse to bang cheerleaders in the foam pit, have no supervision, insult everyone else and waste their parent's money. It's a trap. Don't fall into it. RID: 49476
Click to report rating    7/26/14   5     4     3     3     4   Honestly, i just came home this morning and looking back i had a pretty good time. Im 14 and went for cheer, and it was really fun. The things that i didn't like were the mediocre food, hazy swimming pool, lack of activities, and the disgusting beds. But, putting that aside, the staff was great, the cheer coaching was phenomenal, I got many skills, the canteen had good options, and the overall experience, One tip is to bring bug spray, and a fly swatter because it is very buggy, and to put 150 in the canteen for a week because things are very pricey and most people spend close to 115 or 130 a week so just to be safe. I think it is worth another trip back. RID: 47701
Click to report rating    7/17/14   2     3     1     1     1   I really wanted to like this camp, and sent my daughter to cheer camp, despite reading troubling comments. Unfortunately, the criticisms are true. There is a disturbing lack of supervision for these kids. Many spend most hours of the day wandering with nothing to do or sitting in their cabins. There is two and a half hours of instruction, other than that they are completely on their own. No organized activities, no supervision. The all in cost for this camp was over $1,500 for five days of mediocre tumbling practice in groups that are too large for any real personal attention. Overall it is a bad summer camp combined with a mediocre cheer camp. My daughter and her friends are there currently on day 4, very underwhelmed and ready to come home. Such a disappointing experience. RID: 47615
Click to report rating    9/23/13   5     5     5     5     5   It's actually the best place ever. I came home well over a month ago and I get nostalgic just thinking about it. I genuinely had a fantastic time, and I can't wait for next year. However, I feel like it's better for teens just because it's easier for older kids to manage their leisure time after mandatory practices. I don't know one person who went the same week as me who didn't have the best time ever, though. It's a really fantastic place; and if you're contemplating going, i really would. Not only did I receive amazing help from the staff with my gymnastics, but I also made some really amazing friends throughout my time. I got the full camp experience when I went there. I had such a great time; you really should go! :) RID: 46035

8/10/13   2     5     2     1     3   amazing facilities, but very very poor supervision of the campers during "free time". counselor was not friendly or helpful. I don't care attitude. went for gymnastics, my son did have a good time in the gym. not much for him to do in between gymnastics sessions. spent a lot of time walking around by himself (10yrs old!!) he was actually able to buy RED BULL! he's 10!!! luckily it was for an older boy in his cabin. age range in cabin was 10-15+. NOT appropriate movies being watched on kids ipads/phones. where was the counselor? we got our moneys worth for the gymnastics, but I think my son learned FAR more than he should have at 10 yrs old. don't get sucked into the nice facilities! other than that it was quite a let down. won't be going back. Click to report rating    3/19/13   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is the best camp in the world! im a level 5 gymnast and with the help from the wonderful coaches and staff and even olympians, i have skills that i thought i could never do! do listen to the negative things people are saying, this is the best camp you could ever want to stay at. The staff was SOOO nice and i felt like i knew them since i was little thats how close they seem to you. If there is something wrong i feel free to tell them. the coaches make you feel at home. The activites like horse riding and soo much more are soo much fun to do. The whole time i was at this camp i was laughing or smiling even when i was sleeping. I wanna live here! please go! Click to report rating    1/3/13   5     5     5     5     5   Okay, so I am 13 years old and I went to Woodward last year for cheerleading... It was amazing... i get home sick a lot when i leave my parents but when i went there i didn't miss them at all! i felt so welcomed and so comfortable. The facilities are amazing and the food is so good! RID: 43314
Click to report rating    8/21/12   1     4     4     1     2   I sent my son to the camp. It was his second summer. I knew going in that there was little supervision but that was why I waited until he was 13 to send him to this type of camp. He arrived on Sunday. By Tuesday afternoon he got sick. He went into his bunk and lied down. No one noticed that he had not left the bunk for for dinner or any activity. His counselor was mean and therefore he was scared to ask for motrin. He called my from his cell in the morning because he was so sick and asked me to pick him up. I called the camp. He saw the nurse. Said he is not so bad. Boardline on whether he should see a doctor. His throat is red and he has no fever. I picked him up and he had 103 and he told me they never took his temperature. A camp should at least know how to take a kids basic vital signs. If you are thinking of sending your kids to this camp, make sure he/she has a cell phone to keep in touch with you. Also theree is ZERO security. anyone can take your kid and they would never know RID: 42459
7/22/12   1     5     3     1     3   This is the number 1 rated park in the usa. I say park because my son got zero guidence and instruction. He loved the park but felt cheated by having nobody helping him learn new tricks. The cabin was the worst. 20 kids packed in there! Horrible sleeping conditions. Toilets and showers were poor too. The facilty was great. Woodward seems to want too much money for everything. The cost for a week should really be 600 instead of 1100 dollars. My son would rather fly out to san diego and skate for a week at the coronado park than come back to woodward. I was amazed that woodward even charged for regular water. Not kidding. .10cents a cup. The other thing that sucked...the free food made my son and others sick. He recovered on day 2 and paid for the better food all week. My son said....never going back. He actually felt sorry for me spending all that money to send him. Hope woodward get it together. It really could be the best camp around...only if they stop being greedy. RID: 42032

7/29/11   1     4     2     1     1   My 12 year old son liked the facilities, but the sleeping arrangements, structure, and the help of the counselors are terrible. 21 kids sleeping in a 15 x 15 room (Bunks 3 high)????!!. A toilet that doesn't work, no real 'lights out' and a counselor that didn't care. It was a dissappointment and my son came home early. I wouln't consider it until your child is 16 or older. This camp seems more about how much money it can generate than how many kids it can help to improve thier skills. RID: 36551

Click to report rating    2/20/11   4     5     4     5     3   so the main complaints are about money and whether or not the child is getting attention from the staff. In my experience i felt that it was worth the money because, OLYMPIC GYMNASTS/SPONSERED bmx/skateboarders are attending and even coaching your child. That is actually a pretty good deal. Also, when i was working in the gym for my mandatory practice there were coaches ready to help everywhere. I found this evident especially in open workout. Even if i just wanted a coach to check my form i could call one over (they didn't necessarily have to be the same coach assigned to my group). For the food issue, it is not the healthiest but most kids go for a week or two and i mean it's camp! When has there ever been one that doesn't sell ice cream and pizza etc. Going back to that statement where someone said "too much time for boys, my friend made a point to go to every workout so she didn't have the time. It's basically the campers choice.I for one had an great time at woodward. RID: 35165
Click to report rating    7/23/10   1     1     1     1     1   Pricy and Buyer Beware! Make sure you read the fine print. No refund and non-transferable, even with medical issues. Look around. There are a lot of options for like or better quality camps, especially when you consider the price, the fact there is no recourse, no consideration of or flexibility to your campers issues -- Just a form letter ten+ days later stating the situation is "unfortunate". Look around. You have many more quality choices. RID: 33446
Click to report rating    7/15/10   1     4     2     1     2   great facilities, fair food not very healthy. great for skaters. tumbling instruction is not good unless your very aggressive and very good to start with. you get the ok coachs and way way too much free time to spend hanging with the boys. twenty kids in her class. no individual attention. as a parent never again. RID: 33343
Click to report rating    12/29/08   4     5     3     2     4   Well, Woodward wasn't the best camp in the world, but it was ok. After you did your activities there really wasn't much to do. I would just go down to arts and crafts and do nothing. The food there is ok and you had to buy all other snacks. When I went to bed my counselor would be really nice but I never got to see any of my friends during the day. The facilities are awesome and everyone is pretty nice. I was in the training room and a guy cracked his head open from skateboarding but I am not going to blame it on the camp. RID: 28208
Click to report rating    11/19/07   5     5     5     4     4   Woodward was heaven on earth for skateboarders. Its pretty easy to get homesick though. The staff is wicked friendly and the facilities are awesome. Woodward is a place for everything, and by the end of the week, the people in my cabin were like my family RID: 17234

Click to report rating    2/7/07   5     5     5     5     5   i went to woodward for one year, and being a girl in the action sports program, i was not judged by my gender. It was amazing getting to skate with other girls like me and i learned so much. i even dropped in for the first time! woodward was one of the best summers of my life! RID: 7608
Click to report rating    1/7/07   5     5     5     5     5   it is the best place for your child to go and the lady who rated this bad is wrong so what if people pay for pizza thats their choice...okay so up hers RID: 6542
Click to report rating    12/22/06   5     5     5     5     5   woodward is the best place ever!!! my team goes for gymnastics n even tho its a little expensive its sooooo worth it!! you get so much acomplished and meet soo many awsome people from all over the world. including the danish dudes who are the coolest people in the world. you also meet so many olympians! RID: 6221
Click to report rating    7/11/06   5     5     5     5     5   this is the best camp one will ever attend, even though it is alittle expensive it will satisfy your child. If your child is into action sports he will absolutly love this camp. I have been going for 5 years now and i love it. Rollers unite! RID: 1351
Click to report rating    7/6/06   5     5     5     5     5   I went to Woodward as a young gymnast, and now as a coach I bring my athletes here every summer. Nothing but the best! The staff (both permanent and guest/celebrity) are top notch. The equipment is top notch. Each of my kids sets a goal for a skill to learn on each even at woodward. Most of my kids achieve their goal, or come very close. Woodward is definitely worth the expense for competitive gymnasts with a serious drive to achieve their goals! RID: 1292
6/21/06   3     5     3     1     1   The equipment and layout is quite impressive, but there is little to no structure regarding the instruction. Instructional time set in the morning and was optional so most of the kids slept in. The kids paid additional money to drink smoothies all day and paid to eat pizza instead of using the cantina where meals were prepared and included in the camp price. It was very expensive for my son to play all day and not return home with any new skills. RID: 1034
