CAMP WARNING. I went to Gwynn Valley for 2 summers in the mid to late 2000s and I had fun. However, my friends and I all lost a lot of weight in a few weeks. I became dangerously thin. Why?...As an 8/9 year old girl at meal time, we had to fight against older teenage boys for food. I was soft spoken and barely got any food. The activities and farm labor require nutrients and calories that me and my softspoken friends were not getting. I had enough fun the first summer that my parents sent me back; it was only a 2 week session, so my weight loss was maybe 5 lbs. When I went for a longer time, the weight loss was greater and honestly scary. I had to take weight gaining shakes for at least a year to get back on track and be at a healthy weight for my age. The staff at my table did not pay enough attention to just how little I ate and did not stand up for me! I have been to 2 other sleep away camps (which I both loved) and they have you eat with your cabin, which would have prevented this.

Such a wonderful place. My children have loved their summers at GV and we have loved that they are challenging themselves in a warm, inclusive environment. The international staff, the farm, and the newer programs for older campers really set GV apart from other camps. It's not flashy or luxurious, just a good, solid program in a beautiful area. I highly recommend GV!

I love this camp! It changed my life both as a camper and a staff member. The staff is so welcoming and diverse, and the Bullard family is so joyful and ensures that EVERYONE at the camp is having the time of their life. I will never stop recommending this camp.

I worked at Gwynn Valley for the first time this year, and I had a blast. Everyone I worked with was hard working and incredibly lovely. The camp is gorgeous and has it own farm that grows and raises food for the campers. Every camper I saw looked like they were having a blast. With all the cool activities you could do like: horseback riding, camping, archery, canoeing, swimming and a ton more I couldn't blame them.

Was a camper for 8+ summers. It is truly a magical place. I was an only child with older parents, so I was socially restricted at times. GV did wonders for my social development. I felt like I had free expression at GV, finding out my true self. I was not a very outdoorsy child at first, but GV does an amazing job of exposing campers to the natural world while having a great balance with activities that are more subdued. Older adventure programs are outstanding. Farm program is a must-see. It accounts for the majority of produce eaten at GV, grown and picked by campers! Food is delicious, healthy and plentiful with a full professional staff,that can accommodate any dietary need. I always felt safe and comforted by my counselors. Staff is attentive, engaged and well trained with a varying of backgrounds, coming from around the world. Top-class medical team. Leadership is exceptional. They take good care of their staff and are very involved with day-to-day operations. Highly recommend!!

I've worked here the past 3 years and it been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had the pleasure of participating in. The people, the values and the beautiful space itself come together to form a wonderful community that focuses on the growth and happiness of the campers.

This summer is going to be my 7th summer going to Gwynn Valley and it truly has become a second home to me. All my cabin/ activity counslers have been encouraging and friendly and always challenge us to try new things. Gwynn Valley is the most simple place on earth, no phones or TV which is AMAZING. You completly forget about even having a phone because all of the fun you are having. This is my favorite place to go during the summer and the minute my mom books it I am counting down the days. I love GV

Gwynn Valley Camp truly is my favorite place on earth! I've made many friends from around the country and around the world! When I'm there for the few weeks durning the summer I feel so free, and can truly be myself without being judged! I feel a sense of indepence to chose my own activities! The councelers and staff really focus on each child they come into contact with and really work to help you become the best version of yourself. Gwynn Valley camp is the best camp you could possibly ever go to!!

Gwynn Valley has been the best part of summer for my daughter for 4 years. We are so sad that this will be her last summer as she is "aging" out - that is my only warning - if you have a child who doesn't want to camp outdoors - they age out of Gwynn Valley once they finish elementary school. If they are outdoorsy they can continue to attend two more rugged camping options. The camp is wonderful with a great, dedicated staff who truly value the "simple life" and what it can offer the children. I leave my child there each summer with my heart full that she gets to be in that beautiful place for a while. I whole-heartedly recommend Gwynn Valley.

My kids have gone to GV (9 years total) and each year they come back a bit more of who they are, more confident in themselves, and in love with the outdoors. It is a magical mix of history, environment, and counselors and directors who are truly about making childhood what it should be.

My kids have gone to GV for several years. It has all the activities available elsewhere, but in addition there is a working farm (most of the camp's food is produced right there) and really top-notch staff. The location is beautiful, and the whole ambience is transcendent. I love that my kids have this place in their memory banks.

As a parent looking for a great camp for our daughter, I could not be happier with Gwynn Valley. Terrific staff with a high percentage of returning counselors every year (around 70%) and a long heritage and tradition. Its everything you want in a camp emphasizing character and relationships. I'm not as enamored with skill focused camps as with those, such as this one, that provide an environment in which the whole child grows and matures. Excellent value. I worked at summer camps for 12 years as a counselor and administrator and this one has the qualities of the best you'll find anywhere.
