All 3 of my kids attended Camp Rama. My youngest son is currently there. The kids love the camp experience and we have been back well over 12 years. Its an amazing experience for the kids especially as they get older. The overnight trips are great. The staff overall are amazing. The only downside is the price. Its an expensive camp but well worth the money.

The camp really caters to younger kids, when I was in upper camp none of us wanted to do the whole "boyside pride!" chant, then Gelb would freak out at us about it. We pay to be there, if we don't want to do something then don't make us! When you get to upper camp you really spend most of your time just hanging out, which I was fine with, but just don't expect intensive activities. Bunt and Steal got significant worse every year to the point that by my CAP year they wouldn't even let us use hard SOFTBALLS! If you have a five year old, send them, anything else avoid this place. As for staff, the directors really treated us like****. The bureaucracy was ridiculous, and if we broke even a single rule (which in my case was talking to another counselor while on pool duty (still doing our watch just having a chat)) they threatened to fire us. They also pay less than minimum wage and claim you make it up in tips. I didn't because I left early to move. Still bitter. $1.75 an hour for 4 weeks.

Our daughter has been going here for seven years. She often tells me that she wish she would have started sooner. This is her last year now and she is already very sad about it. I cant imagine summer approaching without having her excited about it and counting the days. It has been a great experience for her and she has formed wonderful friendships. She has attended a couple of sleepaways right before camp would start and enjoyed them but not enough to give up Camp Ramaquois for the whole summer. The facilities are beautiful and the staff treat you like extended family. She loves the food, the day trips, the overnights and the various sports that are played. More importantly she just loves being a camper there. Everyone has a right to their opinion but I disagree with some of the negative reviews that I have read. My daughter loves the many activities and enjoy song and cheer and the only bad thing about this camp for my daughter is that every summer it comes to an end.

I have been to Ramaquois for seven years, and I absolutely love it! This summer will be my first as a counselor, and that is one of the greatest things about Ramaquois. Most people that work their have gone there as campers too, so they love the camp and know how to make sure the campers will love it just as much as they did. There are eight pools and many places with ac to go for when it is hot out. Also there is a variety of activities for every camper such as sports, drama, cooking, ceramics, and more. The food is very good and their are many very tasty options, with a different special of the day every day plus certain food choices that are offered every day. For the people who go there for a long time you really become a family, especially when you are in upper camp. You can make lifetime friends there, and it is really a place that only better from the time you start to your last year as a camper, and then as a staff member I will be paid to go to place I love, and I cannot wait!

I attended this camp for three years when I was 6-8 years old. Overall, it was an okay experience, but there were numerous downfalls. The staff were young, inexperienced, and favored the cute kids. The activities and facilities were fine, but nothing special. Parents, I highly recommend sending your kids to sleepaway camp. My parents didn't think I was ready, because I was shy and very attached to them, but right after I went to Ramaquois I went to a sleepaway camp, and it was a wonderful experience. Many kids who don't seem ready to be away from home are totally fine once they're at sleepaway camp. Sure, day camp is good for some people, but it doesn't create the type of friendships that sleepaway camp does. If you're looking for a sleepaway camp that has better activities and facilities than ramaquois and MUCH BETTER staff, I highly recommend Kenmont/Kenwood in Kent, CT.

I went to Ramaquois and hated it. The staff were too young and they only paid attention to the "cute" campers. The food was nothing special and no one paid attention to what most campers did. People write in the bathroom stalls and no one stops them (not very nice writing...) and the cabins are dirty and tiny. Overall, it was not worth the money and was horrible and not fun. DON'T GO TO CAMP RAMAQUOIS!

My daughter went to Ramaquois for 3 years, ages 8-10, 8 weeks each summer. She liked it, but I was never happy with it. On the plus side, the lake is beautiful, the kids enjoy the Adventure Trips, camp supplies towels every day, and they have a high safety standard. Now the negatives: Pathetic art program -- only lame crafts, no art at all. Terrible skills instruction -- after 3 years my daughter did not improve in swimming or tennis even though she was athletic to begin with. Kids have very few choices, and end up doing a lot of softball whether they like it or not. Heavy gender stereotypes -- girls spend the first half of the summer doing endless song and cheer, all free time is spent hula hooping, and groups have "girly" names while boy groups get macho names. If you want to do theater, you can't choose any other options. Some activities come around only once or twice a summer or not at all (in 24 weeks my daughter never had archery!)

We just sent in our applications for 2009 and our kids are so excited. They couldn't imagine a summer without Ramaquois. When they received their early enrollment gift in the mail they wore it to school the next day with such pride. Ramaquois really creates a family like atmosphere. Between the facility and the staff I don't thin you can get better. I couldn't imagine sending my kids anywhere else.

If you're looking for a camp with great facilities, this is a good camp, but if you're looking for a camp that is fantastic all around, with great staff and being able to control you're scedule AT ALL look elsewhere. If you're looking for a great sleepaway camp.....GO TO MERRIWOOD!

I did not like Ramaquois at all. The staff were to young. One of the kids stepped on my glasses and the staff did not even tell her to say she was sorry to me. Each cabin has it's own bathroom. The staff let the campers write on the seat. TRY BECKET-CHIMNEY CORNERS!

My children have gone to this camp for the last ten years, and i still have one there. My daughter looks forwrd to going every year and counts done the time. The camp is extremely safe. The avtivities are endless. The only problem is that is is costly for most people. However is you can afford it yo could not find a better day camp.

I echo the sentiments of the previous evaluator. Terrific place, great staff. I actually get to trip pickups EARLY so I can chat with their directors. Always smiling, always happy, always giving their best. I'm sure there are flaws, but they're HUMAN! I actually trust them with my children's lives. Is there a better endorsement than that??? Highly recommended to anyone who can afford it and wants their children to have the best possible summer experience.

I couldn't imagine sending my son and daughter any where else. They have been going for the past 5 years and love it more each summer. The staff is great, the facilities get better every year. Arthur and Natalie are what camp directors should be. You can't go wrong with Ramaquois.

camp ------ ---- the counslers and kids are snobby ------ whoes parents want to get rid of them. Nothing to do except for the girl counslers to look at the adults who work there 1 time a weak to be on the softball team and wear tight pants to attract younger girls

Staff has an attitude of win at all costs. This is not healthy when working with young impressionable kids. They take this attitude beyond the camp day. In the intercamp softball league they placed two ringers on their team. Joe and Jeff do not work full time at the camp. They work 1 day a week to run a bball clinic. Joe is a semi pro ball player. Is this fair? Is this within the guideline set forth by the league? I think not.

OK I have been going to this camp my whole life so I dont have anything to compare it to. But at the point where you enter "UpperCamp" which is 7th grade the camp doesnt have as many things for you to do. It comes down to cooking, basketball, ping pong and bonzo ball. Another thing i dont like is the safety and cheeziness. The camp is a childs camp! They focus more of their energy trying to lure in the younger kids so they will come back for another summer while trying to keep the older ones is not worthwhile. Every morning the boys side would gather and scream the cheer Boys Side..Pride. Obviously a teenager would not want to do this. Safety: because the camp is part of the ACA it must obey the safety regulations. This means No baseballs which is a camp main attraction even for the 12+crowd must use large squisky balls to minimize risk. I think this is bull****! The only thing the Upper camp looks forward to is the Bunt and Steal Softball program and it is ruined by these softballs.

This is my son's 4th summer at Ramaquois. He loves it. He was starting 4th grade afterhis first summer. This can be a strange time to start a new camp. Where kids have been going for years. He fit right in. The counselors made in feel like he belonged and the other campers helped him get into the swing of things. Great facilities, campers from NYC, Westchester, Orange and Rockland counties. I wish i could go to Ramaquios.

This summer is going to be my 10th and last summer as a camper. Ramaquois has been absolutely amazing for me and nothing is better than this. I went to a sleepaway in MASS but came back to rama because i missed it so much...activities are amazing, and when you reach the years to go on trips, those are the best parts of the summer!!! I have made so many lasting friendships and I cannot believe Im almost done as a camper. Like many of the counselors there, who i have become so close with, I plan on becoming staff after I'm done as a camper, and am going to be a teacher not only becase of my desire to do so, but so I can work over the summer at camp. STAFF SOFTBALL BRINGS THIS CAMP TOGETHER and is the highlight of my summer!!!! ramagames (color war) is so intense and fun and is a great way to end the summer, but it is sad when they come because we know the summer is going to end soon...CAPS 07 ALWAYSS <33

I'm going into 6th grade and my counselors were not the best. Nobody's perfect, but my counselors were not the nicest counselors I've had. They said that they told me to put sunscreen on when they didn't. The meanest part was that during tip week, they actually started telling me to put sunscreen on were nice to me. Otherwise, I love Camp Ramaquois and I'll never leave!

I went their when I was younger and liked it alot. while I don't remember alot, we had alot of fun. It was the only camp I went to before going to sleep away. When I got to sleepaway camp I was surprised on how many more activities they had here than they did at sleepaway. I think it is really good up to a certain age because when you get older, many of my lifetime friends that I made started going to sleepaway. I'm not sure if they have them anymore but they used to have carnivals which were really fun. There was also bonzo ball which is similar to handball which was really fun. As the kids move from lower camp to upper camp, there is a ceremony. I was chosen to pass down a ramaquois shirt to a lower camper making them feel really welcome. I liked everything about it except the instructional swimming. Like all camps everyone knows how to swim and it was the only time you were separated from your friendsso it was so boring. The water carnival was the best thing and I liked i

i used to go to this camp and i went for 3 years. i was about 7. i loved this camp but because of hte 4 week session it was hard to get attached. all of hte people i met though were incredible and i still think about them. i now go to a sleepaway camp called evergreen(it is on this website) that has all of this nd is hundreds of times better. oddly enough another girl who went to ramaqious also came to evergreen and w/o even knowing of our similar history we became best friends. we both agree that people who like ramaqouis would probably also like most sleepaway camps with the same activities.

camp is filled with overprivileged children, sent to camp by parents who would rather not be bothered by them all day. Staff gets taken care of nicely, which is the only reason to work there - but it doesn't offer the real camp experience, by any means.

I`ve been going to Camp Ramaquois for almost a decade now, and it has been the most rewarding experience i would ever hope to get for my youth years. i`ve met some of the greatest people and have made countless friendships that will always be cherished. the staff is amazing at what they do because they love it as much as the campers! some, if not most, consulars attended ramaquois as a camper and know how rewarding this camp is because they have experienced it themselves, so they make the extra attempt so others will have such a wonderful time as they did. ramaquois really is one big family and i highly recommend it to anyone, campers or staff. truly just an amazing place that i truly call a second home.

WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE!!! Ramaquois is a terrific camp because of the dedication and attention to detail of their staff. Ramaquois treats people the way they ought to be treated. One leader at the camp, Jared Gelb, is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He is a hero to my son because of the way he speaks with children. I HIGHLY recommend Ramaquois to anyone who wants their children to have a rewarding summer experience.

Ramaquois is a great camp. The kids love going, the staff enjoys working. The facitilies are excellent, and there are countless activities for the kids to enjoy. It is a little more on the expensive side, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Each camper gets the individual attention need, while being involved with other campers in sports and many other activites. There are several pools for the campers and the staff to enjoy. It is just an overall great way for any camper, or staff member for that matter to spend their summer. I absolutely recommend it to anyone considering sending their children there.
