Click to report rating    6/15/20   5     5     5     5     5   I worked at Camp Langston in the early 60's when I was in High School (counselor/horse wrangler). Some of the best times of my life. Back then "Rustic" actually meant something. We had to drive a jeep several miles to a cistern to get drinking and cooking water. Up at about 4:00 a.m. to catch the horses, get them ready for the morning ride. Take the campers out, bring 'em back about noon (feed horses and campers) repeat late afternoon. Chores in between. Great teaching experience for us, great learning experience for the kids. Great owners, great staff, plenty of things to do. It really was rustic, but fun for everyone. Haven't been there in years, but would highly recommend it.Dan Welch RID: 53235
Click to report rating    6/18/18   4     4     5     5     5   Camp Langston has been like my second home. The staff that I have know for years there are like family and truly do care about the campers feelings and thoughts. Almost all the counselors at this camp are amazing and clean up the campgrounds along with the campers at the end of the week. The activities that take place at Camp Langston are SO MUCH FUN! Mud games, shaving cream fights, water games, the lake slide and rope swing, the jets that pulls at high speeds across the lake on a float... Riding four wheelers into the back of the camp grounds and through mud, riding the horses through the fields of green and gold on horses that the wranglers love and care for them as their own. Movie nights, archery, fishing, trailer rides at night, visiting the camp's local 'ghost' and acting foolish at night in your cabin with the counselors; all of these reasons are what make Camp Langston the best part of my summer. Heck, the best part of my year. I go as far as to count the days. It is worth it! RID: 51897
Click to report rating    6/7/13   4     3     2     2     4   I attended this camp in the mid 60's. Left me with hilarious memories of swimming across the lake to sneak into the girls' cabins, shooting Daddy Jack's powerful rifles, driving jeeps, dancing to the juke box at the PX, picking ticks out of my underwear, riding pathetic old pregnant mares around the trails, picking on nerds & mama's boys, taking girls into the woods to experiment, enjoying the beers smuggled in by older teen counselors, playing cards after dark, swiping food from the cafeteria...having the time of our lives-! I'll bet nothin' has changed--- RID: 44688
Click to report rating    4/15/13   5     5     5     5     5   I love Camp Langston! I look forward to going for the rest of m life. I've been to allot of other camps, Long Horn, Pine Cove and others but Camp Langston rocks. RID: 44269
Click to report rating    3/11/13   4     4     5     4     5   Camp Langston is a great place! I went there for a number of years when I was a young girl. Now I get to send both my son and daughter and they love it. I highly recommend Camp Langston RID: 43948
Click to report rating    2/6/13   2     1     3     1     3   This camp is extremely run down and disgusting. The counselors order the kids around and even towel pop them. Told the owners about how my son was treated and they could care less. My other son never changed clothes the whole week he was there and looked filthy when I picked him up. My youngest was taken on an overnight trip in the corn field and shown a scary movie that gave him nightmares for the rest of his time. My kids told me on the way home that several nights the counselors would sneak out and there was no one in the cabin all night. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!!! RID: 43600
Click to report rating    7/22/12   2     2     3     2     2   You really do get what you pay for. The camp is run down and the bunk pads were to dirty was thought my kids would end up with lice. When I picked them up, nobody asked for ID, I could have taken them and nobody would have noticed they were gone. My kids said a lot of the other kids were mean and used bad words and nobody did anything about it. They wont give them their mail without making them do something silly in front of everyone. My eldest was horrified and embarrassed. Mail call is supposed to be one of the best parts of camp! They wouldn't let them call home, I asked specifically when I dropped the off if they could call when they wanted to and I was told YES! When I asked my kids if they wanted to go next summer they both said with conviction "NO!" Even though the camp is inexpensive compared to other camps- it was a waste of $900 for me to sent my boys there. Lesson learned. I only hope in a couple years I'll find one they actually have fun at. RID: 42029

Click to report rating    3/2/11   5     5     5     5     5   This summer will be my daughters 9th year at Camp Langston. She has been a camper and a junior counselor. Going to camp has made her who she is today. She counts down the days till camp months before. The people she meets at camp are her "family" she says. Shes very close to them. Camp Langston is "the best place on Earth" according to her. it really is a kids paradise!! RID: 35247

6/16/10   5     5     5     5     5   I think Phil & his Wife have done a wonderful job with the camp renovation. I have been going with my girls to Camp Langston for 12 years now. Its a charming camp that reminds me of the 60's movie Parent Trap. Keep up the good work!! RID: 33015

Click to report rating    5/24/10   5     4     5     5     5   I'm with one of the church organizations that rents out Camp Langston's facilities and has been doing so for the last ten years. We take on average between 200 & 250 girls there ever summer and they love it. I remember a few years back we tried a new place for a two year span and our attendance fell off by 35%. The minute we notified our members that we would be going back to Langston, the numbers shot through the roof. Our girls love this place. RID: 32826
Click to report rating    4/3/10   4     4     5     4     5   Camp Langston is a great place to send your children. I attended in the 80's and loved it. I now send my children and do so knowing their in good hands. RID: 32533
Click to report rating    3/26/10   5     4     5     5     5   I love Camp Langston. This will be my fourth summer and one day I hope to be a Senior Counselor. I can't wait till this summer. RID: 32480
Click to report rating    3/17/10   5     5     5     5     5   I had never attended a summer camp before I started working at Camp Langston last summer. I have to say that Camp Langston and it's employees are like a second family to me, and I count down the days until camp starts up again. I will admit that there have been a share of councelors who may have not been as highly qualified as others, but that could happen at any job. The kids always seem to have a great time and love the open schedules. I have made so many great memories at Camp Langston, and I would recomend it to any parent wanting to send their child to camp that would give there child a great experience for a great price. Click to report rating    2/11/10   4     4     5     4     5   I spent nearly twenty years on staff at Camp Langston and am now the director of another summer camp. As Camp Langston’s founder used to say, “we’re a country place, not a country club.” I think that holds true, the camp has always been rustic but in the last five years has really improved its facilities- they are easily comparable to the facilities of any other independent camp you’ll find in the region. Camp Langston offers a very diversified program which includes horseback riding, ATVs, water activities and a freedom of choice that your camper will not find elsewhere- campers get to decide what they want to do on a daily basis. Camp is about learning new things, creating memories and making friends. Camp Langston sees hundreds of campers a year, out of those hundreds of campers if only 3 or four have negative things to say, then Camp Langston must be doing a world of good. Some complaints might be valid, if addressed to the owners I am confident those problems can be resolved. RID: 32152
Click to report rating    2/9/10   5     5     5     5     5   I worked here for 4 years including the time frame described below where the "counselor was injured by the owner and his daughter", which is not a true statement. Never once did we prepare our own meals. I never witnessed verbal shamming or isolation. The campers were held responsible for the things they did but never in an inappropriate manner. This camp is absolutely amazing. I was never there as a camper but quickly fell in love with it as though i had been going my entire life. They offer activities that children would not get on a daily basis such as nature hikes, rifelry and archery lessons from experienced counselors, swimming lessons from certified lifeguards, horseback riding with experienced riders. I worked there 2 years during college and 2 years after having a degree in child and family science. I like to think I was qualified for the job as are most of the staff. I highly recommend this camp for your children. It is life changing and will be unforgetable. RID: 32127
Click to report rating    1/21/10   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Langston is like a camp straight out of one of those old Disney films. Unlike sports camps or church camps kids are really given the freedom to pick and choose what activities they want to take part in. they can make friends and just hang out all day if that’s what they really want to do. Camp Langston offers experiences that genuinely cannot be found anywhere else. Whether that is taking a trailer ride out into the woods to have a movie night out on the big screen or participating in the weekly shaving cream war kids are guaranteed to experience something new. Although be warned : Camp Langston is not for the faint hearted. There are ghost stories and real challenges to be faced. I began attending the came when I was eight years old. I continued to attend and later became a counselor. [although, I have a real job now]. My experiences there every summer really shaped me growing up. I remember camping out at lake melody and having extensive water balloon fights. I remember telling RID: 31948
Click to report rating    11/22/09   1     3     3     1     1   I think that Camp Langston is trying to improve. We sent our kids and grandkids and have had a chance to see things change. In the 90's the staffing was great- they had a man who understood kids in charge, the facilties were not so great. Now its eems the facilities are improving but they don't seem to care as much about the kids. We've had a while to think about it and my biggest thing is that I believe the staff have declined. RID: 31597
Click to report rating    6/21/09   2     2     3     3     5   I attended this camp for several summers back in the 80's and then sent my own daughters back in 2000, still looked EXACTLY the same. I even found a place where I had written my name on one of the cabin walls completely unchanged. Very nostalgic experience. However, I have to say that my older daughter reported a lack of supervision and several incidences when her counselor left at night to visit her boyfriend, ect. She also believed that alcohol was being used by some of the counselors. We opted for Girl Scout camp after that... Bette Perot is a great camp, same area and very safe, downside is it costs more but you truly do get what you pay for. No hard feelings, I have good memories of Langston. RID: 30173

2/6/09   2     2     2     1     2   It's interesting to reflect on the types of repsonses on Camp Langston. I think the real truth is that certain kids get special treatment and that the rest of them are left to their own devices at least that was my son's expereince. While the rate is far less than most other camps- you do get what you pay for. As a parent what bothered me most was that twice during his stay my son was left in a cabin for much of the night with a counselor, when the counselor did return he woke up most of the boys and then yelled at them for being up, I got to hear most of the rant over my son's cell phone. He had called because it was 2 in the morning and he was scared and there was no counselor to be found, so I stayed on the phone with him until the fellow showed up. RID: 28857
Click to report rating    1/27/09   3     4     4     4     5   Over all a great exp. for my child. She has attended the last six years now and loves it. Its the best bang for your buck that I have found. All the activities of camps that cost more than triple. It is rustic , but in a good way " The Texas Way". I thank its good for the kids to get back to nature & out from in front of the TV. Every year there is something new for the kids whether its facilities or activities which is a testament to the owners. RID: 28737
Click to report rating    1/3/09   4     3     5     4     4   this is the best camp u will ever go to! the activities were great and action packed my daughter loved it! the cabins could use a little bit of fixin' up but other than that i recomend this camp for your child %110! the other good thing is that it only cost $350, instead of the other camps that can cost thousands of dollars. over all this was just a wonderful camp RID: 28342

Click to report rating    4/9/08   4     2     4     2     5   It is one of the least expensive overnight camps I know of. My young daughter went two summers ago and loved it. True, its old and worn-out looking but it offers lots of fun for little kids. The covered swimming pool helps prevent sunburn. RID: 22128
