She gets to spend the summer exploring nature, making friends, and building self-confidence and independence. All while having a total blast! The staff are dedicated, hard-working, and creative. The leadership is committed to making it a safe place for girls to grow into themselves while developing meaningful connections with each other. The rustic setting is not for everyone but it is an authentic experience for campers and staff who are interested in outdoor adventure and stepping away from the pressures of the "plugged-in" life. The former director (now owner) of Carysbrook has absolutely run it into the ground. The staff are treated poorly with zero regard for their mental and physical health, and when they speak up about being mistreated, it is either completely disregarded and they are gaslit into "sticking out the summer", or they are terminated and asked to leave immediately. Not to mention they are SEVERELY underpaid, work 24/7 six days a week, with one day off that they cannot even choose, let alone take off with their friends in fear of being accused of "not being a team player". The Counselor In Training program has turned into what is basically free labor, and the camp itself is ridiculously expensive for what it is- a few weeks in the woods in spider and wasp invested cabins with bad food. The staff is so overworked and burnt out, they cannot properly care for children. Do not send your kids, do not work here. RID: 53569
Click to report rating    7/27/21   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Carysbrook is an incredibly special place: it is a welcoming and supportive place for girls to spread their wings. I was a camper in the 80's and my two girls are now 4th generation campers. New campers are welcomed with open arms and that summers at Carysbrook become tradition for so many, and that there is an active camp alumnae group, is a testament to how special it is. Camp is set in a beautiful place in the rolling hills alongside a river; the buildings are rustic but well maintained, meals are healthy and delicious. There are tons of activities and campers are encouraged to try them all. Evening activities are creative and inventive and there's always something for everyone. For parents/caregivers, the director and staff maintain good communication and are well organized, particularly with all the forms involved with registration, etc. And the Healthcare staff is superb! Click to report rating    7/12/21   1     2     5     1     1   I worked at this summer camp for a total of 6 weeks. The director and owner put up a good front but they don't not care for the staff. Especially Kitchen staff, we are expected to consider EVERYONE at the camp.Yet we were neglected. We were told to eat by ourselves in a room in behind of multiple garbage and a full compost bin.Campers are the main priority. If you are interested in working at Camp Carysbrook be prepared to be under paid and worked to the fullest extent. Counselors mental and physical health aren't considered. The director specifically is petty and immature. When problems arise she commonly states "it's not my problem." I was hired as an intern yet I never worked under a Chef or had any supervision while cooking. The kitchen is barley up to health code standards. They didn't provide wifi for any of the students. When the director and owner stopped believing in our team the kick two of the kitchen staff out of the camp. Neglecting to contact our parents or school. RID: 53414
Click to report rating    2/19/21   5     4     5     5     5   I attended this camp for four years as a camper and worked there for two years. It was my favorite part of the year every year. It gave me so much confidence as a camper and gave me some of my favorite childhood memories. It is a rural summer camp without any technology available to the campers. This was such a great break for me from technology as a camper and let me really focus on the relationships around me. The counselors are very well trained and the staff has very high expectations of them. My counselors were all very dedicated to giving the campers the best experience at camp while I was a counselor. As an employee there, I was always impressed with the dedication of my coworkers to the campers. Being a small summer camp, I was able to get to know girls outside my cabin easily. The communication between the camp's staff and parents is also very good. RID: 53347
Click to report rating    4/27/18   5     5     5     5     5   this camp is the most amazing place in the world. I will be coming up on my 7th year soon, and it is always the best part of my year. The small enviorment allows for everyone to know everyone, and friends to be with everyone. The activities are amazing, and never get boring. I have made some of my best friends here RID: 51801

Click to report rating    10/15/15   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Carysbrook is an amazing camp for all girls, whether you're 8 years old or 15. It's nestled in the mountains of Virginia, surrounded by the forest and the Little River. It's great place to get away from the stresses of school and technology and make meaningful friendships. Unlike other camps, it offers freedom in choosing activities. You can do whatever you want each day, whether it's rock climbing, swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, tennis, soccer, volleyball, dance, fencing, or so many other fun activities! Everyone is kind and welcoming, and ready to be silly and have a lot of fun. I've been a camper at this camp for more than 5 years and I keep coming back because I love it so much. RID: 49238
Click to report rating    3/7/15   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing!! If you absolutely hate bugs I wouldn't go, but it is an camp, and camp is about being outdoors. The bugs didn't bother me, and I loved how rustic the camp was. I'm definatly going back next summer! RID: 48480
