It has taken me almost 2 years to write this review. I did not want to tarnish a camps reputation based on our horrible experience in the summer of 2021 as I thought these issues were only related to my child. Since 2021, I have heard many stories that are the exact same as ours, just yesterday, another one from my sisters friend. I feel obligated to share.
My son went to Schodack in the summer of 2021 and will never try another sleepaway camp as he is truly scarred (as are we as parents). To sum it up, the directors and owners called me at least 3 DAYS A WEEK to tell me my child was sad, homesick, "emotionally distressed" and that this was not normal.I was under the impression homesickness was normal for a first time camper. Regardless, after a couple of weeks they asked that I COME AND GET HIM because his "sadness" wasn't good for the others. They have asked NUMEROUS parents to pick up their homesick children. Terrible Directors, Terrible Owners. I do NOT recommend.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Schodack. Both of my children are campers there and choosing Schodack was the best decision for our family. My kids have made such strong friendships which is what I wanted in a camp experience. Schodack is physically beautiful and my children have been exposed to exciting activities (wonderful waterskiing program, horseback riding, go karts and traditional sports). The staff is caring and most counselors have been there for many years which says a lot about how the camp is run. The Krouner family has been incredibly responsive whenever we have needed to communicate with them and we so appreciate our connection with Schodack. Highly recommend!

I'm so grateful for the 10 summers I spent at Schodack and I'll forever consider camp one of the biggest, most positive influences on who I am today. The people at Schodack (both campers and staff) are incredibly caring and down-to-earth — my friends, campers and counselors continue to be a huge part of my life. Everyone at Schodack is so proud to be a part of camp, and it really translates in creating such an incredible, contagious and spirited environment. The staff truly invests themselves in creating the best experience for the campers and lifelong mentoring relationships and friendships. It's truly incomparable!

My sons call Camp Schodack home. They started at 7 years old and went to Camp Schodack until their professional goals took a front seat, however Camp Schodack is always in their hearts and their camp friendships are forever. My kids tried activities they marked as "no" on paper and were so proud of their accomplishments. They embraced most moments and were able to learn from experiences by reaching out to friends and staff - until they were staff themselves! I am a "camp person" and grew up at camp myself. Camp Schodack is everything most parents are looking for - a safe, happy, "I miss my friends and want to go back to camp" experience. If I could rewind the clock and start Camp Schodack for my boys again, I would! Don't just click past this one - go see for yourself and feel the Schodack spirit!

Camp Schodack has been a part of my family since before I was born. My dad and his sister first attended in summer of 1972, then my mom, and last but not least, my sister, cousins, and me! Schodack summers were the best of my life and the friendships I made here continue to be the ones I hold closest to my heart. My dad at the age of 60 is still best friends with all his camp schodack friends. I look forward to returning every summer, even if it is just for one day! Can not talk highly enough about this place, my home away from home!

My family has been going to Camp Schodack since 1973, and this year is the first summer since 1999 without one of us at camp. I wouldn't trade my summers there for anything. With values of warmth, tradition, and spirit, and a family-like atmosphere, Schodack quickly becomes camper's and staff's second home. I spent 7 years as a camper and 4 as a counselor, and my time at Schodack has shaped me into the person I am today. I learned independence, teamwork, sportsmanship, spirit, enthusiasm, and leadership skills, and made valuable friendships that will last a lifetime. I wish I could go back to camp forever! It is the best place in the world!

I spent 14 years at Camp Schodack (7 as a camper, 7 on staff) and they were the best summers of my life. Many of my best friends are from Camp, and I wouldn't trade any of those summers for everything. Schodack is the ideal summer camp, and any type of child can thrive there. I can't recommend it highly enough!

13 summers at this amazing place and I can't imagine my childhood without it! Its filled with friendly staff and campers, owners who know you by first name and activities for kids interested in anything. This is a place where I met some of my best friends and got to experience new and amazing things year after year. My brother, sister, and even mom have bonded over stories from Camp Schodack and will continue to tell those stories for years to come! I can't wait for my future kids to have the same amazing experience as I did!

Camp Schodack is the best place a child could spend their summer. At Schodack, campers are valued and loved while being given opportunities to stretch themselves and have fun. Most importantly, I know from experience that friendships made at Schodack last a lifetime.

Both our children and grandchildren have spent many glorious summers at their favorite place in the whole world…CAMP SCHODACK!. Our family are diehard Schodack fans and the place holds a special place in our hearts. We all love it and love the Krouners. They offer a warm, loving atmosphere to all who are lucky enough to experience this unique haven.

I was both a camper and staff member at Schodack for a time span of 13 years and the impact it had on my life cannot easily be measured. I learned valuable skills that will last a lifetime, and forged friendships that will last just as long. Almost 15 years since my last summer at camp, my niece and nephew attended Schodack for their first time this past season. They simply loved it and cannot wait for next summer. Camp has only gotten better over time and the attention to detail and constant focus on improvement shows that Schodack refuses to rest on it's laurels. I credit the ownership for keeping camp great. Schodack is still owned by the same family who's passion for providing the best summer camp experience endures. What a great place.

My children have attended Camp Schodack for 5 years, and I have seen the positive impact of camp each and every summer. They have made friends who accept them for who they are and have shown the independence and confidence a parent dreams of for her children. The directors have high expectations for their staff -- most importantly, that staff will provide each camper with a chance to learn and grow and experience the magic of camp. The staff, most of whom have grown up at camp, work hard to exceed expectations. My older son participated in the two year Leadership Training program. Upon completion, he was invited to join the staff. He and his friends felt prepared to provide all that the campers needed to have the summers of their lives. The surprise for my son, however, was that in providing for the campers, he had the summer of his life! In fact, in his college essay, he describes camp as the place he feels "perfectly content." Both sons can't wait to return for year #6!

Choosing Camp Schodack for our two boys has been among the very best decisions we have made as parents. In the 6 summers since our oldest started camp, we have seen major additions to the facilities (indoor gym, bunk renovations, etc) as well as new activities such as scuba lessons and visits by a tennis pro (summer '13). The Directors are accessible and approachable and the staff (many former campers) are enthusiastic and form lasting bonds with the campers. The culture of Schodack allows campers to try new things in a supportive environment while also offering an opportunity for campers to improve in activities and sports that they already play and love.

Schodack has long been known for its warmth, tradition and spirit and it continues to back this up each and every summer. As the parent of two very different children, one girl and one boy, each has found a unique niche at Schodack and built lifelong friendships along the way. Many of the staff members grew up at the camp and help add to the positive energy that is omnipresent. The camp has also made significant physical improvements over the past several years which has helped add to their overall experience. Having attended a large competitive single-sex camp, I find Schodack's small size and family-like environment to be very refreshing. I can't imagine my children going anywhere else.

Schodack is a very special camp, with experienced, caring leaders and wonderful counselors. My children have been going to Camp Schodack for several years now, and I cannot imagine a better place for them to spend their summers. The warmth, kindness and friendliness of the other campers and the staff (most of whom grew up at Schodack!) is phenomenal. My kids are better people because of their experiences at Schodack. It is a place that lets kids be kids, and takes special care to make sure no one is left out, bullied, or treated unfairly. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I feel very lucky to have found this camp, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!

We sent our daughter there because we were assured by the camp director that he is an expert on ADHD kids and would know how to handle her issues. Sometimes our daughter would not participate in activities and had meltdowns when pushed. We came to pick her up early at visiting day, but the counselors assured us that she was doing much better and to leave her at camp for the second half. Days later, we got a call to come get her. The director was conveniently absent when we came. Our daughter was devastated, as she really liked her counselors and tried to meet expectations. We asked for a pro-rated refund and the camp director told us that our daughter was such a nuisance that we got more than our money's worth. It turns out he couldn't fill the bunk the second half, so he kept our daughter long enough to get our second-half tuition and that of my daughter's friend, who only agreed to come the second half if my daughter was there. We are still reeling from the experience.

I was a camper at Schodack in the 80's and now have 2 children there. It was the most amazing experience for me and now my children are able to enjoy the magic of Schodack! Schodack is a wonderful camp that emphasizes friendly competition, kindness, tradition, and spirit. Schodack is a camp where kids can be themselves. The staff is wonderful, with many of the counselors being former campers. It truly is a special place!

My daughter has been going to Schodack for a couple of years and liked her first few summers there. But this summer at Schodack has been the worst summer of her life. She is in the first year leadership training program at Camp Schodack. I realize why none of her friends came back this summer because you pay almost the full tuition and they do more jobs than the counselors and they actually have counselors that do nothing. I do not recommend this camp. There are plenty other camps that treat a 14 year old better and the kids that came back are the bullies.

This camp ABSOLUTELY deserves the high ratings it gets. I have two typical kids (one boy and one girl) who enjoy all sorts of activities and they love it and live for their summers at Schodack! They have formed amazing bonds there and have truly grown in confidence and skills each and every summer. Schodack is a beautiful camp with great facilities, but more importantly there is an amazing sense of warmth and family that really makes it my kids' home away from home! They both can't wait for their sixth summer at Camp Schodack!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Not really sure why this camp has the high ratings that it does. Facilities are lacking, and leadership is a little disorganized. It is common to get shut out of the the trips as well, according to our daughter. The staff is very decent, which does count for something. If you have a typical kid who likes a variety of activities, I would not recommend this camp.

I went to Camp Schodack in the 80's and it was my second home - my husband and I are fortunate to have our children attend Camp Schodack and this will be their fourth summer. The traditional values of Camp Schodack are amazing and are very important to our personal family values. The Directors and Staff are warm and loving. My children call Camp Schodack "The Greatest Place on Earth". My husband and I agree, we could not be happier about the choice that has been made. It has become a second home once again to our family and is such an important place in our lives. My children are counting down the days till they are there for summer 2011. We are confident in recommending Camp Schodack to friends and family as we know that this is a fabulous choice in a summer camp. The Warmth, Tradition and Spirit are just amazing and if you take a visit to camp you will see just how wonderful a place Camp Schodack is! Highly recommended!

I can't picture myself with schodack. Schodack has made me such a good person, inside and out. Not only does it give me friendships that will last a life time, it made me such a great person. i Love it there its my home away from home, and i couldnt picture my summers being at any other place. SO what if our facilities aren't the nicest, the activites, friendships and fun make up for it. Camp just ended and and I'm seeing my best camp friend within a week i miss it so much. IF you have any doubts about not sending your kids here do it because truthfully this place is amazing and a life changing experience!<3

Being at Schodack is a life changing experience. You will never experience warmth, tradition, or spirit as you can at camp. Summer '09 will be my 5th summer and I plan to never stop. I can be anyone I want to be at camp. I can run around, yell, play (sports), swim, act, hang out, and make friendships that will last my entire life. How many 15 year old girls can do that their entire summer? Camp gave me a new perspective on life and made me who I am today, a better person. The staff will be some of the most caring and influential people you will be in your lifetime. Every person is given personal attention and camp makes sure that every single person is happy. I love Camp Schodack.

P-A-R-T-Y PARTY HARDY WITH SCHODACK PRIDE! WHY WHY BECAUSE.WHEN.WE. PARTYYY WE PARTY HARDY AND WHEN WE BOOGIE, WE BOOGIE WOOGY. Summers not spent at schodack is really a summer wasted i mean its small but now claustraphobic i mean that you know everyone and everyone is amazing and help full. The food is actually good. Going for one summer never really works out believe me if you go you will never be able to go to another camp i just love camp so much and honestly it might be exspensive but come on it will honestly change your son/ daughters life like it changed mine. Expensive but worth it, camp schodack is the best place in my life. CIT's 010 and 011! Can't wait to be a counselor either. As a home away from home, there are so many things to do like waterskiing in a lake filled with seaweed (lakeweed), archery, hockey, arts n crafts, or just sitting and reading.

We chose to send our 9 year old son to Camp Schodack after visiting and watching 5 camp DVD's and visits. The warmth and kindness we felt not only from Paul but from the entire administrative group helped make our decision. We felt so comfortable that our son would be well taken care of and nurtured in a positive and genuine way. He was in good hands as everybody there understands children and the dynamics that go along with learning how to live with 13 other children. There were issues in the beginning but the camp handled it in a fabulous way that all of the kids felt really good about each other. Aside from this he loved camp so much.... he told me he had more fun than he missed us. He continues to talk about his summer and can't wait to go back.

while some kids are going all OMG CAMP IS AMAZING, i'd like to speak from a more mature level. camp is amazing, but while a lot of the advertising emphasizes our many activities and facilities, i personally would love camp just as much without them it is the friendships that you make at camp that make it amazing, and also the many traditions. tribals, or color war, is particularly special, jam packed with fun and games. triple crown is completely unique to schodack, with its chance for everyone to make their mark on the stage. also, the final leg features a bunk song that you'll remember forever, as well as plaque that will hang in the dining hall forever. so, parents looking for a camp? come down and take a tour with the camp director or the recruitment director. campers always accompany these tours, and they are 100% honest (they'll tell you if the showers are cold sometimes!) and love showing your kids around. schodack is truly a second home for many. - 5 yr camper, 1 yr c.i.t

please parents, do your kids a favor and DO NOT send your children to this place. schodack is not in the least bit diverse and the campers are extremely vain and superficial. It's the type of place where individuality is shattered and destroyed. This is the type of place that will take a middle school aged child and force them to second guess every aspect of themselves that is not completely normal. Children who are not as rich as others will not be as popular. I remember my fellow campers sitting around during free hours and counting how much of each brand name they brought with them. ek. Hopefully things have changed since I attended...

This camp is the best camp in the history of camps! I went to another camp that I thought was great, until I went to Schodack. The food goes from acceptable to great, unless most camps that give you nasty bowls of mac and cheese. If you're thinking of going to another camp - don't! The kids are amazing and everyone is really nice. Schodack has a lot of very fun activities. Baseball is fun at camp, but I would really like if they would paint their "green monster" blue. (I am a Yankees fan!). The green wall is my only complaint. They have go-carts that are a lot of fun, and most of the campers can drive them. You have to be old enough and pass a test. They have "tribals" which is like color wars. They split the camp into 2 teams - green and white - and they play each other in lots of different sport and challenges. The best part is it comes out of nowhere! You could be eating your lunch and the firecrackers go off..and suddenly they're leading you all around the camp! SCHODACK IS GREAT!

When I send my son to Schodack every summer, I can relax and know that he is in a safe, fun environment. At summer's end, he cannot wait for the next summer to arrive. There are no videogames, cellphones or other distractions and my techno-addicted son does not miss them at all. This is not a fancy camp and the bus ride to the lake and road at first concerned me but I have total confidence in the camp's owners and staff. The campers are their children too. They do not tolerate bullying or other negative behavior. My son sees camp friends throughout the winter separate from the organized reunions. My older child attended a different camp and I regret that she missed the opportunity to go to Schodack. It's an amazing place.

Schodack is wonderful....if you want your children to make friends with rich white Jewish kids from neighboring towns. Schodack has absolutely no diversity. None at all. Everybody looks and thinks the same. Thier interests are all the same. I went to Schodack for 4 years....and let's just say it set me wayyyy back. Schodack was fun, kind of, but not worth that extreme sacrificing of self. I would NOT suggest going here.

I love Schodack. 2007 will be my 3rd year, and my brother's second. The only bad thing about the facilities are the bathroms in the cabins- they're kinda dirty, although camp Schodack hires porters. Only come here if you bond well with others.

Schodack is a great place for parents to send their children for a true camp experience. It is a small camp, and the counselors really care about their campers. The activities are fun and exciting for everyone, and the three "camper's choice" periods allow the kids to spend more time doing the activities that they love the most. A majority of the staff grew up as campers, and really show the warmth, tradition, and spirit of camp. Lifetime friends are made at Schodack and i would recommend it for everyone.

I spent 6 unforgettable summers at this camp. They were the most fun and amazing summers I have ever had. The friends you make there are for life, and the counselors are always there for you and also become some of your best friends. I miss it and will always remember schodack! BEST SUMMERS YOU WILL EVER HAVE!

Camp Schodack is incredible- it's great that so many of the counselors grew up at camp, they really understand their campers and are so much fun. What's unique about Schodack is you are never "too old" to come back- after being a senior/super senior you become an LT and then a counselor. The food many not be fancy fancy and the facilities are less than luxurious, but that really isn't what makes a great camp. The people at camp, the tradtions that have been going for 50 years, and the memories that will last you a lifetime. People grow and change so much over their summers here. It's like an addiction- you spend every day at home counting down until the next summer, and it's very common for people to go from junior campers to head staff members and spend as many as 10 or 12 summers at Schodack. BASICALLY IT'S THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD.

My children had a fabulous summer. They made great friends and had fun playing all types of sports and water activities. They loved the excitement of Tribals. The camp is extremely well-run, clean and safe. The kids of all ages are happy and have life-long friends. No bullying - it just isn't tolerated or accepted by the kids or staff. The food was really good this year. My kids are still singing camp songs and talking about their experiences. This is a well-kept secret as a world-class great camp for kids.
