The reviews on this list are for 3 separate camp programs. The Merrick and Oceanside programs are for younger kids and mostly held inside buildings. The other is mostly housed on the beautiful Henry Kaufman Campgrounds in Wheatley Heights except for rainy days where they use the JCC or day trips or other synagogues to entertain the kids. My boys have been going to camp Friedberg for 5 years and we have been very happy. It is a lot less expensive than other camps in the area and offers more trips then any other camp I could find. It is a have fun and get filthy camp. The counselors are great, many stay from year to year and most were campers first. I suggest checking it out if you are interested and ignoring the bad reviews.

I have been a camper and counselor for the voyagers division. The trips are cool and it was fun working with the kids, but behind the scenes it’s a toxic environment. Some administration has favorites and they are very unprofessional when it comes to not asking back staff.

Not worth the money. Counselors are immature and inexperienced. My child was abused by her fellow campers. The counselors are not trained to handle different types of children and my child suffered because of it. Not worth the money!!!

We did the merrick Jcc .. other than the few trips the rest of the time the kids play a sport or sit on their phones .. the counselors are useless and unprofessional . One of the counselors actual sits with some of the girls and gossips about the other kids and talks to them about her breakup as if they are peers and to all the other children she's pretty rotten .. our children have loved every summer program they have been in but they all hated this program total waste of money .. totally false advertising they claimed/ crafts/ cooking / games they had little snippets of fun

although the camp itself and the trips are good, the staff is awful and do nothing about the constant bullying that happens daily within the explorers and voyagers division. Although my children had fun at the amusement parks they visited, they weren't worth the money as their fun was dampened by the abuse by the campers, and even counselors! One counselor told my child to "shut the hell up" when my child simply asked her for lunch, and that same counselor walked around TOPLESS infront of her 10 year old campers (boys and girls) despite complaints by the children. Although many complaints were made to the camp management nothing changed the next year.

I have long experience with all camps of JCC. And every year camp worse and worse... Bad trips and expensive. Staff not experience and can not create new activities, just repeat the same every year... But not surprise because the best people left JCC :(

Amazing camp, they do everything that fancy schmancy camps like Coleman do but even more and do it better. Also it looks like a camp, not a parking lot made into a camp. My son had the summer of his life at the JCC camp.

I am a voyager at this camp also. I just started this summer second session. I have never seen such nice kids in my life. At my old sleepaway camp the kids were so mean. But here the so nice to me for just starting second session. We also have so much fun going on different trips every day. Last week we went to Niagra Falls. It's far but it's so much fun and belive me its worth it. Voyagers is for going into 7th 8th and 9th grade and sometimes even 10th grade! So if ur chld/children are going into those grades send them to be a voyager at the friendberg jcc. It is the best camp I have ever been to. I also made the best of friends. Next year I am going to go for the full summer. You go on about 3 overnights the summer and if ur not on an overnight ur at espn zone or something really fun. They also make room for color room. So if ur child doesn't like sleepaway camp this is a good place.. They also have a campgrounds for the little kids and sometimes the voyagers or explorers go there.

i am one of the voyagers which is the oldest group which goes on trips every day. it is so much fun to get to travel with my friends. we get to see so many exciting places.

The site at the campgrounds is on top of the hill, its like sleep away upstate. My kids loved their counselors and their favorite activities are swimming, driving range,nature and miniature golf. Ratio of staff to kids is 3or4:1 which is equivilant to daycare standards. If you have more than one child it is the most affordable. I love that my kids come home exhausted and can't wait to go back the next day.

the staff is nice, the facilities are pretty but in need of more activities. The personal attention is good but its kind of expensive for a day camp with not that many activities(compared to many other LI camps)

A new, clean facility that offers great activities for young children. There is a pool on site and children as young as two years of age can part take in swim activities. They also have half-day and full day programs that offer families flexible programs. High couselor student ratio. Affordable.
