Galil formed who I am. My deep beliefs in sharing and helping others stems from my time spent at Galil as a child. Socialism is the kindest form of government. That being said the camp itself was an incredibly fun and rewarding experience for me. I remember the “chugs” - the afternoon clubs which one could join at will. I had “club practical jokes “ where we played practical jokes on the others, and “club back-massage “ in which we practiced that skill. There were also other, more socially-redeeming clubs. The food was pretty good overall. I remember gorging on bagels with cream cheese/lox mixtures. The girls there were wonderful. I miss them. A note to all those who attended from 1974 to 1978: Joshua is deeply sorry for all the dreadful things that I did and said back then- I was going through some really bad times at home and I couldn’t express myself well. To all Jewish parents reading this- you cannot find a better summer camp than Galil in ottsville. be nice to animals

If you do not agree with this camps extreme leftist views do not go here. I wqs a camper here and during a talk about SOLIDARITY i shared my opinions that didn't agree with my counselors. Instead of talking to me like a normal person they start laughin g and smiling at each other and show me a leftist website trying to prove their argument. If you want to send your kids food(obviously not peanuts or not kosher food which makes sense)dont. I had a kid in my cabin who wanted hot sauce and they said no because then the other kids wouldn't have hot sauce and everyone has to be equal...... The atmosphere at first seems friendly they want to talk about socialism(which doesn't work do your research) and minorities. But the way they talk about it using extreme leftist websites to "prove" their arguments. If you share your opinion you will be ostracized even though they "claim" to be inclusive. They leave out the part where there inclusive to only people who share their extremist views.

Although this is a camp where you will make friends for life, there are some drawbacks. For instance, in my opinion, it is just a bunch of rich, privileged, white kids talking about people who aren't as privileged as them. You do not actually do anything to help underprivileged people. It is also not a very diverse group of campers, considering they are all white and Jewish. Also, some of the counselors over use their power. There is no doubt that Galil tries to brainwash the kids. All in all, I will have friends for life, but I do not know if I will send my children there.

I went to Camp Galil from 1995-1998. Camp Galil is unique. It is a secular Jewish and Zionist camp, and the perfect place for children of secular Jewish families to solidify their cultural identity (as it was for me). In addition to traditional activities-- such as sports and arts & crafts-- there are some unique activities such as morning work projects, group discussions, and community service. It is a very accepting environment for gay or gender variant kids as well as kids from such families. It is also good for kids with mild developmental disabilities. I grew up with undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome, and the experience at Galil was my first real social awakening, and it changed my life, especially in terms of a certain counselor/friend/mentor whom I met my first summer there. I don't know where I would be if I hadn't gone to Galil. It's been twelve years since my last summer there; I was saying it then, and I'm saying it now.

I went to Galil over ten years ago for seven summers. I loved it. It taught a lot of life values that I carry with me as an adult. I hope to be fortunate enough to send my children there so they can experience the close knit family that is Galil.

Camp Galil changed my life, giving me a positive Jewish and Zionist identity and group of friends for life. It did the same for my parents, and is now doing the same for my teenage children. It is a miracle that the transformative place of my youth still exists, and that my children love it and feel the same way I did about it. The institution has improved with time, and yet still accomplishes the same basic mission using the same basic format.

Although listed above as a religious camp, I found it to be more culturally Jewish than religious in orientation.

My kids have been going for several years and look forward to their summers at Galil. I have been happy with the quality of the programming and the smiling faces I see at the end of every summer.

Galil has provided me with a set of values to which I still subscribe. The kids I met there are now life long friends. My son is there for his 2nd summer and I have watch him get the same values we share at home. Love of self, love of Israel and love of Jewishness begin here.

This summer is Galil's 60th year serving Jewish kids from the greater Philadelphia area and it's never been better.
