My history with this camp started in 1965, starting as a young camper, and progressing to be a Head Counselor. I made a solid group of friends from Camp that after over 50 years are still close to me. I met my wife Allyson Pettit there and have an amazing daughter Camryn who also enjoyed her many summers there. My 3 grandkids will definitely attend when they’re old enough as well . Camp has kept up with generational changes as well as its facilities always being improved upon. All in all, I strongly suggest and urge all those who are considering Camp Tranquillity for their children , to quickly enroll them , you won’t be disappointed. If anyone would like to communicate with me for any info I may offer, please do so. Homerunharv27@aol.com There are open houses being planned, so I urge you to attend Harvey Benjamin

Camp Tranquillity was a major part of my childhood and teenage years. It was my “happy place,” where I met friends, who to this day are an important part of my life. In April,, 2020, a group of TY friends decided to Zoom every Friday to check in with each other during COVID. We never stopped. To this day, we are still checking in with each other every Friday. Many of us started camp in the mid-1950s and our friendships are still strong. This kind of bond is so rare today and we are very fortunate to have each other. so many years later. Tranquillity holds a special place in my heart.

I have been attending camp since the early 2000s. I was a camper, counselor, and head counselor and my summers there have been magical. Although it is a religious camp, everyone is welcomed. We keep kosher and have Friday night services, but surprisingly, the majority of my friends from camp are not Jewish. It is not a jappy camp either; it attracts all crowds and is an accepting environment for everyone. The camp is more traditional than most in the area, keeping up with how it has been for the last 100 years. Obviously much has changed, but its core values remain the same. This camp has taught me how to be a leader, gave me friends for life, and will always remain one of the most amazing places on earth. I am forever grateful that my parents chose to send me to Tranquillity Camp.

AMAZING! Honestly, people have different views on it maybe because they are homesick or have insecurities, but when you're there, you immediately are accepted into a life long family. They are always here for you and when you're there, this is unbiased, the counselors are great, they're so fun and helpful, but also sweet and relatable. 99% of the campers are awesome and I have countless friends from there. Of course, there are always some people who dont want to be there and try and make camp miserable for others, but counselors and campers try and comfort them and don't let them bring the mood down. In the end, most end up loving camp and if not, it's not TY's fault, maybe they're just not sleepaway camp type. There is something for everyone, anyone who auditions for the shows gets a part too. The food is out of this world and though the water is touchy at first, it is actually great for your health and skin and you can bring a filtered bottle or flavoring fi you dont like it. 1000/10

Tranquillity Camp has been a summer home for my family for over 60 years. My father and uncle attended camp in the 50's, my sister, cousins and i attended camp in the 70's-90's and now my own children and niece and nephew are attending. 90+ years of operation and 3 generations of happy campers in my family, what could speak more to the quality of the camp experience received at TY. I love visiting and seeing my children enjoying the same experiences and traditions that i had as a camper, singing the same songs, participating in the same Saturday night shows and Friday night services under the the beautiful TY starry sky. i have made lifetime friends there and hope the same for my children and with any luck their children too and many more generations to come. don't be swayed by the toilet cleaning comments in the other reviews, do you think a camp where kids cleaning toilets all day every day would have stayed around for over 90 years?? cleaning is an important skill for kids to learn.

THIS IS THE BEST PLACE EVER! You can go to any camp, some counslers will be bad some will be good. I am a good counsler and I loved my campers. Cleanup is no big deal its just so the kids learn to clean up after themselfs so they dont like in a pig stye. I have been going to camp for many years and i have made the best friends of my life. now i cant stand my home friends and i love it. I will be going to camp for a very long time still. My mother went to camp my sister went to camp and now i go to camp. I'm even with one of my camp friends now that i've been friends with since 2003. this is the best place ever and i make more friends every year and it instills the best values a child will ever learn. I LOVE CAMP AND I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE. i love it and its unlike any camp, its better in that its tradition enrtiched and just spectacular.

You really get what you pay for with this camp. My son thought it was the worst. They don't even have a tour prior to signing up. They say word of mouth is all we need and there's a waiting list. That's because of the cost....Its cheap. Spend the extra money your kids are worth it.

I went to this camp when I was 9 or 10 years old. Most of my memories of Tranquility I have chosen to forget. If you would like to see your child suffer for the long term, this camp is perfect for you. God forbid you are not Jewish, then you are treated as an outcast all together. This place can be compared to prison, with postcards as the only means of communication. Unless your completely insane, DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE! Invest the extra money into a camp that will not haunt your kids for the rest of their lives.

This will be my daughter's 8th summer at TY.It is her home away from home and instills solid values;not filled with spoiled brats. The kids are respectful. They keep in touch through the winter and love each other deeply. There are many activities and they keep adding more each year. There are now filtered water fountains. The complaints about the water have to do with the sulfer content of the ground in upstate NY. For anyone who knows about this, people spend a lot of money to go to sulfer springs for their medicinal value. The matriarch of the camp said she lived well into her 90s because of the water...the kids learn to live with it as needed. The food is the best camp food around. The vegetables, fish and kosher meat and chicken are always fresh. The Friday night dinner is like being at home and has multiple courses; not a starch based camp menu. The property is huge with room for expansion. Generations have attended considering the camp has been around over 90 years!

Fist thing first, it’s not bad for the money. It is an affordable alternative, if you want your kids to get a camp experience. Facilities are OK, some bunks better then others, depending on the age group. Younger kids have older bunks. The new bunks are great. The food is great, kids did not complain, just the wate, it stinks, literally. The bad thing, there is NOTHING to do. The kids hang out all day and talk, there is not structure. Given all that, my kids loved it. The counselors are mean, because they are probably bored out of their minds. As a parent, I want my kids to experience different activities and have some variety. If you can afford more money, send them somewhere else

THIS Is THE WORST CAMP YOU COULD IMAGINE. First of all, the water tasted like garbage. it could have been puke for all i know. Also, you had to do chores all day like scrubbing toliets and cleaning the floor. THIS IS A CAMP PEOPLE!! You don't pay to do chores!!! The counselors were horrible! They would allow their "Boyfriends" to come into our bunks at night while we trying to sleep and then they blasted their music while having a party. Then they would wonder why nobody got any sleep! Worst of all, was the activites. There were NONE! Everybody would just sit around in a circle all day watching the counselors have fun!!!

Awesome experience! Went here from 7 - 13 years old and I'm now 51! This is a camp that instills patriotism, respect for yourself and others, and is FUN! The leadership believe in American values and your kid will not just 'go to camp' -- he or she will gain a lifelong experience to cherish. This camp is simply the BEST! It is timeless... Roy sends

With grass so green and sky's so blue. this is the best camp ever. i been their for a long time and i have to say, i have had good counselors and bad counselors. the bad counslers now that i think about them made my group even tighter. the facilities are so nice. the sport center to the new boys house make this place so wonderful. the activities are fun, you do see repetition but only the good activities. softball and tether ball are the biggest. tether ball for the kids but a ty softball game last forever. the personal attention that the kids get is good. the staff live with the kids so there is easy communication. ther is no better camp.

This camp was okay, I'm going again for 5 weeks (2nd and 3rd session.) I loved it though, the food was GREAT!!!! The counslers don't really care about the campers. (Most of them.) One night I remember it was like 3 AM and they had a lot of other counslers in their room. They were being VERYYYY loud. I put my I-pod on. Oh well!! Fun camp though.

Tranquillity is the best camp in the entire world. The school year can't go by quick enough, I really do live 10 months for 2. The friends I've made at camp are my best friends in the entire world, I couldn't imagine my life without them. We all forward to spending our summers together at TY year after year. We love our counselors, the food, the activities, our bunks, the sports center, Lake Pearl, tetherball, sing, stunt, sundays on the field, cheering after meals and everything else. Everything about this camp is amazing. I love tranquillity

I didn't want to come to this camp and as a result my mother forced me to go. That was the best thing she has ever done for me. I have made some of the best friends in the world from here, and I have become a better person from being there. The director, head counselors, and staff really all helped me in that awkward stage in my life of growing up. I really appreciate everything they have done for me even when they forced me to write a letter home. It's been a place where I can go to as a second home, and a place that I never want to leave. Whether it's doing clean up, going to activities, or just hanging out with my friends this camp is a simple place where people don't judge you and treat you like a normal person. I look forward to many more summers there, and even more memories that will last a lifetime. Did I mention the new houses are amazing?

I spent 15 years at this camp, as a camper and then as a counselor. This is definitely a place to make lifelong friends. The camp is one of the oldest in the country, so they must be doing something right. Although its true that the facilities are not top rate, they are constantly making improvements with the help of a loyal alumni. I grew up as an inner city child and was always thankful to be in the country for 8 weeks every summer. I was able to get a taste of what its like to live with other people, to socialize with suburban children, and have a large family (which I do not have at home. I pretty much grew up at camp and my advice is to make sure your child is open-minded and friendly; then the clickiness which some people described, is not a factor. I plan to one day send my children here as well.

I was both a camper and counselor at Tranquillity and no other experience I've had can compare to my time there. The incredible memories I have are a result of the simple yet meaningful days I spent with my camp friends. Tranquillity boasts beautiful scenery, amazing facilities and traditions that you cannot find at other camps. While the staff is young, they are home-grown; their love for Tranquillity ensures that they will work their hardest to give each camper the same experience they had. The alumni remain active because fond feelings for this camp never fade. I recommend sending your children here for a real camp experience. There is more to Tranquillity than what initially meets the eye - do not mistake simplicity for inadequacy. The Tranquillity experience is like nothing else.

Tranquillity is my home away from home. I can't imagine my life without camp. I had been to 2 other sleepaway camps before going to Tranquillity and neither compared. I've been at TY for the last 8 years and I never want to stop going back. My friends from home don't understand how someone could love camp so much, but even after spending just a short time at TY it's easy to see the friends you make at camp turn into family. The lessons and traditions of camp make it so special. It doesn't matter what brand of clothes you are wearing or what your parents do for a living, Tranquillity is a place to be yourself for 2 months and have an amazing time without any pressures. It truly is a privilege to be able to attend such an amazing sleepaway camp. Sending you children to Tranquillity will be the best decision you will ever make, it truly is a remarkable place

Tranquillity holds a very special place in my heart- I am a second generation Tranquillityite. Having just finished my tenth summer overall and my third on staff, I can tell you that there are no friends that I have like my camp friends. I had the privilege of being one of the first to live in the brand-new boys' bunks, and it was a factor in making this my best summer yet (and I don't say that every summer). I highly recommend this camp to all who are interested- I spent seven incredible summers here as a camper and I would not trade those summers for anything.

I went there a long time ago, so perhaps things have changed. I have many horror stories though from my three years there, including a too young 15-yr old head counselor when I was only 8, being forced to share a bed with another girl because they ran out of space, being forced to eat food I despised, and "hiking" to a candy store on a busy road on Shabbat (for years this is what I thought hiking was supposed to be). I know many people love this camp, but perhaps you have to be a certain kind of kid and get lucky with counselors you have. Although tradition can be great, I think it mires this camp down, because there are many traditions left (although perhaps now gone, I don't know) that are very antiquated and cruel, such as handing out different size "T"s at the end of the session depending on how good a camper you were. It was always clear that it depended on popularity and was quite hurtful to many of us.

Its SO rich with traditions and stuff, which is really cool in a way, but can make you feel left out if it is your first summer there, don't know anyone, and did not have parents and grandparents that went there. Still, an amazing community, really neat how involved the alumni are. If you can get into the traditions and stuff, I think its possible to have an amazing time. My three weeks there were not the best of my life, but I went the worst year to start out, the waiter year. So...It could be the right place for the right kind of person.

The facility, food, it's all descent but the idiotic people that attend this camp are basically rude, spoiled japs who will traumatize youre children if they aren't rich.

Decent food, good location, but the counselors are varied. I went there for six weeks and would have like it more if the counselors had actually paid attention to what was happening in my group

My experience at this Tranquility was unforgettable. I will always remember the ten summers as a camper, counselor, and head counselor that I spent there. It is truly a home away from home for me and always will be!

I have gone to this camp for 2 years and it sucked. I had no fun and all i wanted to do there is go home. A lot of the kids were idiots and i would recommend it to nobody.

I grew up at this camp. I have made a lot of close friends and will definitly send my unborn children there. The water does taste like sulfer but who cares. It is so much better than these luxury country club camps that all these little rich kids are going to. It teaches you about yourself and the world. The administration were alright but they didn't appreciate my services when I was a counsler (the Best there ever was!!) and I payed attention to all of my campers needs. In all seriousness this place is unbelievable and you will never have an experience like it ever again!!

i went to this camp a long time ago. the staffing waas terrible. they paid no attention. the food wasnt that bad which was surprising . i vaguely remember this camp, but i remember those friday nights in that steaming hot barn , watching plays which i never was casted in. its a great camp and it started off my sleep away experiences, even as an extremely young camper. the water tastes terrible but i really would recomend this camp.

This camp really does create everlasting friendships. I have made some of my best friends here, and I will continue to be close with all the people that I have come across. Yes some of the counselors sucked, but some were the reasons why camp was so amazing. I look foward to spending my summers there, and when I am finally done I plan on sending my children there. Tranquillity is truly for the rest of your life.

When I was a camper at this camp, the councelors NEVER paid any attention to me. I did a 3 week session. In those three weeks, I had my towel stolen while I took a shower, got hit with a ping pong table from which I still have a mark (it has been many years), and I spent about a week in the infirmary for a severe sunburn that the nurse told me to use aloe on to make it feel better. The bunks were not too bad, but the staff pays virtually no attention to the campers as they were often hid away in their own rooms. The food was not that good. The water that comes out of the fountains tastes like sulfur. They do have good rainy day activities. I guess you get your money's worth because the camp isn't all that expensive. The administrators at the camp are all VERY nice. Hopefully, since I was last at the camp, these things have improved.
