I am about to return for my sixth and final year as a camper, but fully intend on returning as a counselor. The staff were mostly campers, and even the ones who were not completely understand the culture. The average amount of years a counselor has attended camp is 10 years. Besides the counselors, the activities have never bores me and push anyone to reach their full potential, regardless of skill level. One great thing about this camp is the camper culture. There are very few “cliques” in camp while friend groups are very inclusive. And what makes someone cool is not like at a school. You are cool if your nice, friendly, and “camp legends” show dedication. This can be seen in the fact that the “most popular” award always goes to great guys. Whoever made the negative comment about the honorary clubs clearly has not been to Timanous because the Timanous culture is good enough that it allows for the clubs to be rewarding and not exclusive. Ideal setting, dedicated staff, classic camp activities, disconnect from technology, and connect with others and nature. We were surprised on the last day when awards for "most popular" and "best camper" were handed out. Popularity will always be an issue with teens and preteens but to formally recognize it as a virtue is surprising. They do have recognition for skills obtained during camp, which makes sense. Click to report rating    6/23/17   5     5     5     5     5   The negative review was clearly not from someone who went to camp T which calls it into question. There is nothing arbitrary about who becomes a jester, wizard, or voyager. They are awards earned through accelerating mastery of skills. A voyager for example could practically qualify for a Maine Guide by that level of attainment on land or an Americas Cup sailor on the water. I just dropped my son off there, and I am thrilled to be an alumni. I spent five years there and little has changed in its traditions, values and campers. No electricity in cabins, emphasis on relationships, skill attainment, sports, swimming (Amer Red Cross), sailing (top racing camp in maine) - I am so happy my son gets this amazing experience and can disconnect from the crazy pace of life to enjoy the maine woods.      9/16/15   1     1     1     1     1   This camp has very little diversity, many apathetic staff, and extensive cliqueness. Its two "honorary" clubs, the Woodsmen and the Voyagers, exist as Skull and Bones-type secret societies, operating under a veil of secrecy and existing solely to induct campers they feel are worthy of being part of their club. This creates an incredibly depressing and confrontational environment between those who belong and those who don't. There's truly no reason for organizations of this little purpose in a modern day and age. Certainly, the camp offers outdoor activities that are worthwhile to growing boys, as they were to me. But make no mistake: if an arbitrary decision process by a bunch of power-**** teenagers overlooks you for the entirety of your camper career, you WILL be miserable by the end of it. RID: 49187

Click to report rating    12/18/14   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Timanous is an amazing place for a young boy to become a man. I was a camper and couselor at Timanous for six years. I have made life time friendships that surpass any other friendships I have ever had. Almost all the counselors are those who were campers themselves and want nothing more than to provide campers with the exerpiences that they had and will never forget. A passion to explore, discover and succeed is shared among all of those at Camp Timanous. I more than recommend this camp, it changed my life. Without I plan on sending my children here. RID: 48222
Click to report rating    3/2/14   5     5     5     5     5   As a parent of Timanous campers and alum of the sister camp, Camp Wohelo, I can say that this is a wonderfully enriching experience for your son. Timanous builds your child's self confidence along with life long skills. Life long friendships are made here. Your son couldn't be in better hands for the summer with the directors and staff. Click to report rating    7/6/10   5     5     5     5     5   Nowhere have I seen a place like this where the traditions, staff, campers, alumni, and parents form such a cohesive and supportive group. There are only a handful of places in the US like it. The staff averages 10 years each there and 95% were Timanous campers. It is not a luxury camp and emphasizes a simple existence of respect, independence, growth and fun. Top notch all the way. RID: 33257
Click to report rating    2/2/10   5     5     5     5     5   Past camper myself. Remain friends with old and current campers and counselors, who are dedicated to providing a healthy, happy experience for kids. Facilities and activities are outstanding, but any Timanous boy will tell you that they are not what separates Camp T from the rest. Rather it is the feeling that every camper is special. From the perspective of the campers, Timanous is a special place, and counselors and fellow campers all pitch in to be sure that everybody has a positive, growth inducing experience. Timanous is rightfully proud of its multi-generational campers and the longevity of its counselors. RID: 32077

Click to report rating    8/15/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is beautiful! The boys are really nice and care a lot about everyones feelings. I wasnt too homesick but the counselor made me feel much better. The sister camp, Wohelo, was wonderful too. My girlfriend goes to Wohelo and she loves it. RID: 14029
