4/14/17   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Ak-O-Mak is honestly one of my favourite places in the whole world. When I am not at camp all I am doing is thinking and dreaming about camp. And when I am at camp I am just wishing for it to never end. This place is my home, where I have found myself and some of my closest friends who live half way around the world, but we have created this bond that will be forever. This camp is special and one of a kind. Where else in the world are you going to find a group of strong, enthusiastic, hard working girls that part take in such rigorous activities. Ak-O-Mak is very much a triathlon and swimming camp. Where girls will swim miles a day because they want too! Or compete in their first triathlon with the worlds biggest smile plastered to their face as a team of camps "cheerleaders" proudly cheers them on on the slide lines. This is a camp where you explore and push yourself to the limits. A casual race at Ak-O-Mak could be a 10km run. I tell my friends that back at home and t RID: 50628
Click to report rating    4/14/17   5     5     5     5     5   I hold my summer memories at Ak-O-Mak very close to my heart. The staff and campers are the most supportive and down to earth people I've met. I went to 2 other summer camps before I found Ak-O-Mak, and none of them compared. As a non-competitive swimmer the coaches were understanding and happy to adjust swim practice to match my abilities, still pushing me to my maximum potential. This camp is truly a family, and I miss each and everyone of them everyday! RID: 50627

I've made sooooo many life long friends and completed so much I never though I would have. The food is AWSOME!!!! I love this camp sooooo much! I highly recommend it to every one! See you guys next year!! RID: 45918
Click to report rating    9/1/13   5     4     5     5     5   My 8 year old daughter loved her two week session at Ak-o-Mak. Here's what she wrote, "I love it here. It is like home but in the woods.". The activities were fantastic: fencing, softball, yoga, volleyball, paddleboarding, canoeing and of course swimming. She had been swim training 5-7 times a week for 9 months before camp. It was awesome to hear her talk about the fun races and the open water swim to orange rock. The staff is very attentive. The director responded to our email and sent us a photo. Our daughter said the food was great. She liked the small size. We liked the camp uniforms. This is old fashioned camp with no electronics allowed. The girls sang, roasted marshmallows and just had the best time. Our daughter raved about this camp. She came back very happy and asked to return next year. It was an A plus experience for her! RID: 45916
Click to report rating    8/21/13   5     4     5     5     5   This camp provides outstanding opportunity for young female athletes to train as well as non-athletic girls to learn and experience new sports and activities. My daughters have been attending Ak-O-Mak since 2010 and every year when they return they are so eager to share in their experiences and we see a great improvement in their swimming and running. All the staff is quite friendly and our girls look to them as big sisters, even during the year. There is a certain "family" vibe to the camp as a whole. Thank you for the wonderful experiences! Click to report rating    7/28/13   5     5     5     5     5   I highly recommend Camp Akomak! When I was 11 it was my first year. At first i wasn't so sure about it but my mom really wanted me to go because she went there one year when she was 13 and he loved it! From the moment i got there, i felt very comfortable. The counselors were so nice!i loved it so much i returned the next year when I was 12 and I was so happy i came back! When I was 12 my sister also joined me! She loved it too until she sprained her ankle. Even though she sprained her ankle she still had a great time. The nurse was so caring and nice to her and same with her counselors they helped her get places and feel comfortable! I would have loved to go back this year but the dates didnt work out :( but I am definitely retiring next year! RID: 45410
Click to report rating    2/5/13   2     5     5     1     5   The activities were good and rigorous for a sporty child. What disturbed me is that the water levels were so low in the lake the year we went and I was assured repeatedly that my daughter would not be diving in the swimming lanes next to shore which were dangerously shallow. When they posted pictures online what did I see? A picture of my daughter diving in the shallow lane! Also, in spite of me completing the medical form, providing medication, and personally speaking with the camp doctor, my daughter's eczema was completely ignored to the point where she could barely walk on her bleeding feet when I picked her up. Although everything appears so happy on the last day of camp, my daughter later complained for months afterward about the counsellors being unsympathetic when she felt homesick. Basically they told her to "get over it". The camp did not follow up with the families afterward. There was a lot good about this camp but you can't ignore health, safety and lack of caring. Click to report rating    1/3/13   5     5     5     5     5   okay, so I am 13 years old and i have gone to ak-o-mak ever since I was 10. My first year I got so home sick i would cry everyday... but the staff and people there were so amazing that they always cheered me up, they push you hard at ak-o-mak and at first you hate it, then you realize that is what makes you better. The food is to DIE for and the staff are awesome. I didn't like it that much my first year, but something inside of me kept telling me to come back. So I finally made the decided to go back for one more try and I ended up loving it! I am so excited to go back again this year! It is honestly one of my favourite places to be. Even though there is no electricity, AC/heating, bathrooms, or mirrors, thats what makes the camp experience 10X better :) I think that Camp AK-O-Mak is one of the best camps in the world. But thats just my opinion ;) RID: 43312
Click to report rating    8/18/12   5     5     5     5     5   My daughters second year here. She loves it. She has made lifelong friends and done things she never would have pushed herself to do. She loves the food - she is a picky eater and the counselors. An added bonus for US citizens - much cheaper for camps in Canada than US even including airfare. She will stay with this camp.  6/3/11   5     4     5     5     5   This is the camp to send your daughter if you want her to have a completely different, special, and worthwhile camp experience. Ak-O-Mak pushes you to your limits mentally and physically without you knowing it; you will leave camp a stronger, more confident women--and with lots and lots of great friends to top it off! I have spent over a decade at Ak-O-Mak both as a camper and now as staff, I don't regret any moment or summer I spent there. I attribute a lot of my success in sports, school, and life to the lessons and people I gleaned from Ak-O-Mak. There is truly no place like it in the world. RID: 36029

Click to report rating    5/6/11   5     5     5     5     5   From war canoeing to open water swimming, Camp Ak-O-Mak has got it all! Going to Camo Ak-O-Mak was possibly one of the best choices I have ever made.I came in the middle of the session my first year, only planning to stay 4 weeks. All of the campers and faculty were so incredibly nice and welcoming. I felt right at home even though my family was 100's of miles away. When the session ended, I decided 4 weeks wasn't enough and I stayed the WHOLE summer! The friends I have made and the new experiences I have tried have impacted to both at home and at camp!I competed in activities I never thought I would have the chance to compete in and these past 2 summers have been the time of my life. I have made friends for life and learned many life lessons here. If your a girl who loves adventure and is eager to try new things, this is the place for you! Thanks for everything, Camp Ak-O-Mak! Click to report rating    5/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   If it weren't for Ak-O-Mak, I would not be the person I am today. I've been going to this camp for almost a decade, and it has taught me not only how to be strong, but also seen me through some of my most difficult times. I will never stop loving Ak-O-Mak, because I know that it always has had and always will have only the most positive effects on my life. RID: 35828
Click to report rating    5/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   Honestly the best camp I have ever been to. You become part of a family. I can't even begin to explain how much Akomak means to me. It will forever be my favourite place on earth. RID: 35827
Click to report rating    5/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   I was a camper at Ak-O-Mak for six years and I can honestly say that my summers at Ak-O-Mak were the best experiences of my life. At Ak-O-Mak girls are provided with a safe environment to enjoy being a kid, build confidence, and make lifelong friendships. Campers are encouraged to push their limits and realize their true potential whether it be through sports, social activities, or personal goals. The small size of Ak-O-Mak fosters great relationships between campers and counselors and girls leave camp with a family that will last a lifetime. The counselors and staff at Ak-O-Mak genuinely care about the well being of campers and make an effort to reach out each camper and help them achieve their goals. As a sports camp, Ak-O-Mak offers first rate coaching in swimming as well as canoe/kayak, running, and triathlons. Campers will leave camp a better athlete and team player. Ak-O-Mak truly is an amazing place and I would recommend it to anyone. RID: 35826

Click to report rating    2/14/11   5     5     5     5     5   I attended this camp 5 summers in a row as a teen and it was one of the best experiences of my life. It teaches sportsmanship, perseverance, & good old fashioned hard work. It also provides lifetime long friendships. I have 3 kids of my own now and I can only hope they have just as great an experience as I did. RID: 35107
