Click to report rating    6/13/17   2     3     3     3     3   Camp Bernie is an annual trip our school does for our elementary school students. They are very knowledgeable about the activities and ensure students are safe. They also provide a great lunch that the students and teachers enjoy. One of their downsides is their staff and their lack of training on dealing with children. Wav year in disappointed in how snippy they can be with the students instead of teaching them. It may be their young age and lack of experience but they do need to work on how they speak to students and their understanding of the age and maturity level of the students. Also, understanding this is a new experience for some children so they will need more guidance. Overall, It's a decent program. RID: 50820
Click to report rating    1/30/17   5     3     5     4     5   I went to Bernie for a field trip. I enjoyed it a lot. The food was pretty good. The facilities could have been better. I didn't face bed bugs in my cabin, Jaqua. I just think that the little 1-inch pads on with you sleep on could be better. Some of the upper bunks had loose coasters, too. But I totally loved it!!! I wish I could go again. I became best friends with a girl from the other school that my school is rivals against! I also made a best friend from my class. She was my bunk mate. I am in high school now, and still remember this sleepover experience from 5th grade! RID: 50391
Click to report rating    8/24/15   5     3     5     5     5   This is from the point of view of a parent. My children have attended this camp approximately 9-10yrs. The children are educated on the 4 core values: Respect, Caring, Honesty, and Responsibility. Anytime the children broke one of these values, they were singled out and spoken to privately about their behavior; which I think is pretty valuable. They nuture the children as if they are part of one big family. The counselors are very professional and treat each other with dignity and respect. I loved the child-counselor and counselor-counselor interactions during pool time. They didn't allow any time to be afraid of the water; with all the activities they played. While the sleeping facilities; especially Nation are not the nicest, let's face it; this is camping(; This camp has many fun activities including candle making, animal handling, mountain BMX (biking), and horse back riding (which are free choice/optional). My son's great experience has led him to want to become a camp counselor RID: 49121

5/11/14   4     1     4     4     1   I stayed 1 day... turns out they had bed bugs... they first told me that they came from the wilderness then they had the nerve to tell us that the camp didn't have bed bugs, that someone brought them in. Ever since that trip I not only despise my school but this camp as well. I get paranoid every time I see anything small and red or black. Being in a packed train cart having people so close to you is hell. Thank you camp bernie for ruining my life. RID: 47308

Click to report rating    7/5/13   5     5     5     5     5   Friendly and caring staff that really connect with the kids. My camper said she felt her counselor made it a point to make her feel included. This is a terrific experience for my daughter, and gives her a chance to grow that's somehow better than school and better than what I'm capable of teaching at home. RID: 45017

Click to report rating    3/5/12   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVED Camp Bernie! An expreince that I will never forget with such great friends made there. I was a new camper and they accepted me right away and I made new friends so quickly. I was a shawnee, so I slept in the nicest cabin (almost like a hotel!) but the boys sleeping arangments are deplorable. I don't care though--I'm not a boy! RID: 40454
Click to report rating    1/13/08   4     1     3     1     2   We went to this camp fora field trip. I hated it!!! the food was horrible and my cabin, turrel right had hair in the shower and stink bugs all over the place. if you like this place, you should try another camp and compare because you dont know what you are missing!!!! Click to report rating    8/13/07   4     2     5     4     4   I LOVED CAMP BERNIE! It was so fun. They do so many activities there! The food isn't SO great but is fine when you are really hungry.( And Believe me you do get hungry!) The Cabins are O.K. My Cabin wasn't the nicest but you are only sleeping there for 2 weeks. The nicest cabin in the camp is where the Shawnees sleep... It is like a hotel! The worst cabins are where the Nations sleep. Those cabins are small, dirty and are in the middle of the woods! Plus there bathroom facility is outside so bugs are everywhere!( I Checked in on of the stalls... The was a big ugly beetle swimming in the toilet!). The staff is so nice especially the camp director Roy. He is so kid friendly and an awsome guy! Most of the staff is international. The camp isn't so expensive. $1000 or so. Not that bad. A Very Reasonable price. This was my first time at sleepaway camp but it is such a great expirience. Trust me once you go to Camp Bernie you will never want to leave.***** (5 stars) Camp Bernie... YOU ROCK! RID: 13927

Click to report rating    5/4/07   3     3     4     4     4   Camp Bernie is a great place to go with your school as well as going for a Y program in the summer, but their food is the downer I mean once I was there and it was meatball and spagetti lunch and me being clumsy dropped my meatball and it bounced and bounced until it got to the end of the room and vanished from sight. Its safe to say my appetite vanished with my meatball! Click to report rating    3/18/07   4     3     5     5     5   I loved going here. It may not have the fanciest facilities or activities, but it is just a good all around camp. The cabins have are in the woods and are not fancy, but have proper windows, sturdy bunk beds, and have, at least for girls, multiple toliets and sinks. RID: 8765
Click to report rating    12/16/06   5     3     5     5     4   it was fun and they teach you phisical events teamwork self reliant events and much more RID: 6030
Click to report rating    4/11/06   5     3     4     5     5   Well, this camp was really good when i went there in the winter..(with schools),for 3 days. However, during the summer,it kinda wasn't htat good. Nice activities, nice staff,NOT NICE FOOD-the food was sometimes UNEDIBLE..specially the eggs,CERTAIN CABINS WERE AWFUL..They should make all cabins about equal..It's not fair that the Shawnees got to stay in a "Hilton-like cabin" and every1 else had horrible cabins, especially the Nations..All in all,I had a good/ok time.
