This may be all about the troop, not the camp in general, however this was our experience. My son and 7 others in his patrol were being bullied by one boy, who after several conversations the scoutmaster had with his parents was still there after one week. Most of the boys wanted to go home and our scout leaders had no idea how to handle the situation. There was no cooking of food as the boys did not feel like it and the scout leaders did not get involved. There was no dry wood as the scoutmasters "suggested" the boys gather wood and put it in a dry place but never followed up with the campers to make it happen. 11-13 aged boys NEED supervision. The whole situation was painful to witness when all the parents came up the first weekend even though it is discouraged, and most of the boys wanted to go home. I would NEVER send any child of mine again, esp after the anti-gay ruling. This was a lousy first experience, perhaps the other troops were better run.

Aquehonga is the best GNYC camp! the place is very clean and we found staff to be very helpfull. The camp has a great team of Alumni that are constantly upgrading and repairing areas and sites.. Every year there seems to be something new at camp. (thats hard to say about scout camps today!)

This camp is one of the most worthwhile places to go as a child. I have camped there since i entered scouting and it has truly an amazing experience. The staff is always welcoming, and are some of the friendliest, nicest people you will meet. Their facilities are some of the most advanced on the reservation, with the only pool and a C.O.P.E. course that is used by all the camps on the reservation. Campers form the other camps on the reservation regularly come to use its facilities, and compliment it regularly. Although it does not have a dining hall, and is the only TMR camp that does not, it helps to teach the patrol method by allowing scouts to cook for themselves, and work together as a unit. One of the best places to spend a summer as a camper, and one of the places that has helped turn thousands of boys into the men they are today.
