When I attended camp in the early 90's, everyone was much older and more versed in what they were teaching. Maybe I'm overthinking it. While they're young, they do teach very well. Lots of female staff too, great job implementing "Scouts BSA". The facilities have greatly improved in recent years. New pool, renovated dining hall, and a bunch of brand new latrines. They remind me of a state park. The activities have gone downhill a bit. Many of the old programing has been cut in the name of efficiency. Seems less personal now. Personal attention gets 5 stars because if you have a problem, the staff will bend over backwards to make it right. Because of a high clay layer, the camp is muddy. The maintenance team brought us straw before family night. Monetary value is good. While prices everywhere have risen, Manatoc has upped the value for dollar accordingly. Final note, drop the moose. Seems childish. RID: 52933
Click to report rating    5/29/17   5     5     5     5     4   Great facilities, beautiful property, and a staff that seems to be improving. We used to go to Manatoc but left in 2012 because of the new Camp director. Didn't return emails and was snarky in person. We started going to seven ranges but had to stop because we were losing kids in our troop. (We are very laid back, they are not) Excited and hopeful to see how it goes this summer! In regards to monetary value, they keep raising the price ?? That seems to be the trend everywhere though RID: 50771
Click to report rating    2/6/17   5     5     5     5     5   THE BEST BOY SCOUT CAMP IN OHIO!! Admittedly, the camp has had director issues but that was resolved last year and it is once again a GREAT camp for Scouts and adults. The pool is awesome! It is the best boy scout camp pool in the area. The staff is great to work with. Check in was a breeze. The dining hall -- well, what can you say about the coolest dining hall ever? Kiss the moose or lick the fish; the scouts (young and old) love it! And, finally, the Friday night campfire program is great! Highly, highly, highly recommend this camp! RID: 50415
Click to report rating    12/2/16   3     4     4     4     3   The camp has made many improvements and the new staff has helped. I think they still have a ways to go with respect to merit badges. They offer the fewest merit badges of all the council-owned summer camps in northeast Ohio. We find it harder to get our older Scouts to attend because they have earned all the merit badges they're interested in, and have lost interest. The food is decent, and the improvements they are making to the restrooms is a needed improvement. The National Park Service's mandate to make the restroom and lake improvements will go a long way. The new senior staff is doing a good job listening to complaints and suggestions. And the new check-in procedure started in 2016 is a HUGE improvement! They should have implemented it years ago. Smoothest check-in of any camp I've been to. It's so fast we now have a lot of down time we didn't have before. RID: 50279
Click to report rating    3/9/16   5     5     4     3     5   Camp should improve with a new camp director. The past few years, the current one has been lacking. Loved this camp as a kid and hated to see the path it was headed down. With new management, I hope it gets better. Besides that, the facilities, staff, and property is excellent. RID: 49464
Click to report rating    1/1/15   3     5     3     1     1   Good for kids, bad for adults. Waited to review until the official decision was made to switch camps. Even though we are a boy led troop, adults had to make the decision on this one. The "improvements" they keep making are only hurting. Before we could just show up, check in, and get on our way. Now check in takes hours on end because we have to register each scout online using 1990's internet speeds. In addition, none of our complaints were ever addressed other than maintenenace issues with our camp site. Maintenance must be handled by people other than the front office. Counselors were young this year but made do with what they had. The facilities are amazing, new dining hall and pool. Activities are good, but there are no more afternoon badges due to the usage of the online system. Personal attention is poor at best. Never had any calls or emails returned from the camp director. Sad to see the decline of my favorite childhood getaway. RID: 48251

Click to report rating    5/19/13   1     1     1     1     1   Our troop stayed here for a few years, until we finally realized it was a mistake. Food and staff were bad, and the basketball courts are broken and never used. We switched to Seven Ranges, and like it better RID: 44522
Click to report rating    12/19/12   5     5     5     5     5   I attended this camp back in the mid 1980s I had a great time. I have fond memories of this camp . I'm now 42 and find myself wishing I could go back..just how many panes of glass are in the dinning hall..I forget RID: 43243
Click to report rating    8/13/12   3     4     2     2     2   Been to seven ranges and Manatoc and seven ranges is just a better camp. From talking to people Manatoc just keeps getting worse and worse the food is far from good. Also activities were scarce. RID: 42347

Click to report rating    3/12/08   1     1     1     1     1   The food was stale, the instructors were not helpful and the activities were boring. One instructor laughed at me when I didn't do something right. RID: 21186
