My daughter had a miserable summer. Her counselors were not trained properly or equipped to handle the dysfunctional children in her bunk. When we brought it to the camps attention they did nothing to remedy the situation. My daughter needed medical attention and her counselor ignored her. The camp facilities are old and dilapidated. For the price of this camp, you’re better off elsewhere.

This camp has been my home for 7 summers and at the end I truly didn't want to leave. The staff and people there made me who I am today. Without the people I met during the summers at CWW I would have been a completely different person. The activities at CWW are so unique to other camps, the hiking and the many trips you get a chance to do in a short 7 weeks is what makes CWW a place that is truly memorable. I feel like CWW is a place where kids learn independence. I can honestly say that CWW is the best camp based on their activities, staff, and everything else in between.

THIS CAMP IS MY LIFE! This summer I will be going back for my sixth summer, I'm constantly thinking about this amazing place during school and I stay up late at night imagining the wonderful things this up coming summer will have in store for me. Without this place, I'm not sure who I would be today, but I wouldn't want that person over who I am. Camp Walt Whitman has changed my life and has introduced me to amazing friends that I trust and would do anything for. The staff are so loving and you can run up and give them a hug even if you've never met them! The bunks are a really camp feel that I love. All of the activities are on a level that everyone can enjoy. CWW is not a "jappy" camp. We all believe in helping each other. I honestly love this place with all of my heart and not sending your child here would be doing them a disservice.

Both of our children are campers at Walt Whitman. Our experience and, most importantly, our kids' experience has been fantastic. The directors met with each child at our home before their first year of camp. Since that time, we've really felt like the camp is invested in making each summer a growth experience. They've matured socially, emotionally and physically. We would give Camp Walt Whitman our highest recommendation.

This is my home..... so i have been going to camp for 7 years and any person even looking at this page who are not considering this camp are just missing out. I'm 14 and started when i was 9. right now actually im talking to someone that i meant at camp. Its amazing how much camp can change you. I have learned maturity, street smart, and something really important social skills. Staff are so sweet and really care about you. The fields are good and courts are new. Activities are fun but not 100% but 90% just because certain sports don't interest me. Personally i have made the best friends i have ever at this place and my best memories have taken place here. The camp is old.... and has many traditions and amazing things you can be apart of. Please please please dont pass on this place you will regret it alot.

I went here as a kid back in the late 70's and early 80's. I went for 4 summers 78,79,80,81. I enjoyed 78 and 80. I did not enjoy 79 and 81. It is a very nice camp and I was debating about sending my kids here but my bad summers outweighed my good. But my good summers were a lot of fun! I heard there is no down time now from 4p-6p like we used to have that was nice and kids still need that. But I would recommend to people and I do.

Wow! I cannot believe how amazing this place is. I am a 15 year-old sophomore living in NYC who has spent 6 summers at Camp Walt Whitman. I can write undoubtably that this place is heaven on earth. Camp has truly shaped me into the person I am today. At Walt Whitman, I have been taught the values of honesty, kindness, and generosity. I have learned how to push myself to accomplish things that I would never have the opportunity to do elsewhere. I would not be the individual that I am proud to be today if it were not for Camp Walt Whitman. The friends that I have met in my six summers at camp are my closest friends, and they are people that I consider my brothers and sisters. I am devastated that I will not be able to return this summer. To parents sending their children to camp: I could not recommend any other summer camp more than this one. This is where I am happiest and where I can be my best self. This is where anyone and everyone can be their happiest and best selves.

Our son came home from his first over-night camp experience with greater maturity, and appreciation for being fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity. We have to thank CWW for its terrific leadership, staff and programming. When we dropped him off at camp, we felt confident that he would be in good hands. While at camp, the pictures, phone conversations and letters shined with happiness, pride and maturity! He is looking forward to returning next summer, and we couldn't be happier to have found this special place.

This is a great camp! I am so happy having my kids here. The staff is incredibly professional and well trained. Year after year my kids have wonderful counselors. My kids come home every summer raving about all that they do. More importantly, they come home as such happy kids and feel so good about themselves!

This is basically an all athletic camp. So if you want to have fun, be very athletic to be accepted at this camp. Also be funny and be ready to take criticism because allot of the time the kids are really nasty. But all in all its a camp that i will never forget. 7a '07

camp walt whitman... there is so much i can say abuot this place. i have gone here for six years now and have two older siblings that came also, and up until last year camp has been a wonderful place where i could confide in all my friends and staff members. however, when jed and caroline had the camp handed to them, things changed, for the worse. it's not that i think jed and caroline are bad people, i just think that all bill and jancy were doing was waiting for jed to get married to give him the camp. they should've waited until him and caroline were more experienced. they made some bad decisions to say the least in summer 2007 which were completely inexcusable. ever since, camp hasn't been the same. but i still love camp, and will continue to go back, but i just wlil never think of camp the same way. it is still an amazing place. and parents, if u r thinking of sending ur kdis, it is still a great choice. just don't depend on jed and caroline too much. who knows what else they'll

where to begin....camp walt whitman has been a second home to me for the past four years. every year when i come off the bus i cry for the next week and start the countdown until i rejoin all my friends at camp. my counslers in summer 2008 were the most amazing people that i will ever meet. i still keep in touch with them during the year. since this is a coed camp we became best friends with our oppisite cabin. at this camp you build friendships with people that you will be friends with for the rest of your life.

i went to this camp for eight years of my life. and I'm not going to lie and said that every moment was bliss. but i will say that with every passing summer, my time at camp got better and better. there was one turbulent year in which the power was passed between directors, but the following summer has revealed it to not be long term in any way. i don't know where i would be without this camp, because it made me who i am today.

Broad view: pricey camp, 85% Jewish children from NYC, Westchester County (NY) and Fairfield County (CT). These are, for the most part, very intelligent children from wealthy families looking to develop their social networking skills to become well-rounded future leaders of America. The actual daily activities are similar to other camps, but less important than they are at the typical camp. It tends to be about the "experience" at CWW, and how different it is from their Manhattan apartments. The upside is that interacting with the kids in conversation can be stimulating, because they are smarter and more emotionally developed than typical kids of their respective ages. The downside is that everyone is convinced its the best camp on earth and speaks of this often, primarily for the unspoken reason that "We Go Here (and we're very impressive people from the wealthiest areas of the country)". The facilities are average to above-average. Typical camp. If this is your crowd, join them.

i went to camp for seven years, and i loved it. i made the best friends i could have had, and it truely made me the person that i am today. my last summer i spent there though, was awful. new directors came and i was cheated out of my last summer. i was blamed for things i did not do and i was unrightously taken out of camp for the remaining four weeks. all my life i have spoken the praises for this camp, and i still consider myself lucky for have gone there, but i must say to campers and parents lokoing to go to cww, be careful the new direction the camp is going towards pleasing parents rather than listening to the truths spoken by the campers themselves. this may not sound like much, and angry former camper ranting, but i do appreciate what this camp has done for me and i would not change my memories for anything, but i will never get the same feeling when i think of camp that i used to; a loving, trusting, home-like place i once knew. i now think of it as equal to my lost childhood

I went to CWW for 7 summers, and I plan to go back in '09, the first summer I can be a counselor. It's the greatest place in the entire world. I made the best friends of my life there, and unlike a lot of other camps, it's a real, traditional camp and while it can be a little jappy (because all camps are), it is not nearly as bad as many other camps are. CWW is something that can't be understood unless you go there. Senior camp itself is another experience entirely. I grew so much as a person and am who I am today because I attended Walt Whitman. I couldn't be happier with any other choice.

I worked three years at CWW. Met many great staff and enjoyed the food alot. Sometimes the scheduling was crazy but I know the campers were okay with it. The best programs seemed to be the boating activities and the woodworking. The camp was into kayaking long before most camps. The activites coming out of woodworking were neat. Camp is camp so the facilities were rustic and what camp should have. If you want a country club camp CWW is not for you; if you want a rustic camp experience CWW is fantastic.

I went to Walt Whitman for 3 years and don't really understand why I kept going back.It was ok at times but a lot of the people were extremely obnoxious and full of themselves-not exactly what you want to deal with when you're trying to ESCAPE that sort of thing by going to camp. I finally decided to stop putting myself through hell and go back to my old camp, where I now work. Now that I'm at a place that I truely love, I know that the reason I didn't like walt whitman wasn't because I'm "not a camp person". Its not normal for a bunk full of 12 and 13 year old girls to cry every day.

The girls here are really rude. I'm 13 and I went last summer to this camp. When I arrived, the counselors were the only ones that would talk to me. The girls are catty and compeditive. For example, another camp, merriwood, was talked about constantly and everyone said how much it sucked there. I know someone who goes there and it seems fine. My point is, the girls of walt whitman are rude and disrepectful. I cried myself to sleep, I counted down the days until I would be home again. The food was okay, and the activities were fine but I just wish that the staff would be more supportive when you are feeling down and I wish it wasn't such a rude camp.

When I am there I am always in a good mood, and if im not then some one is always there to pick me up, ewven if i dont know them. The food is acctualyy good, most people just say it is bad because of the fact that it is camp food. (i acctualy like it). This camp is my life and i look forward to being a coucilor and cit there in the future

Walt Whitman was a really great experience. I worked there for 5 summers in the 90s, and have fond memories. What makes it great are the people, whether you're a camper or staff member. I'll be objective, even though I gave CWW all fives. The good: Beautiful lake, some great counselors, incredible friendships, 90 percent return rate, great if you're a Jewish camper (everyone is Jewish), no dumb color wars or cabins named after Indians, SQUARE DANCE - THE BEST, food good for a camp, decent sailing, nice hikes and trips, candy night, BBQ, great traditions going back generations, great songs like PURPLE LILACS, camp owners are funny, open, and fair, most kids come for 8 weeks so you really bond, and everyone cries the last night. Not so good: lake is chilly, pool is chemically, like anywhere some weird counselors get in, too many foreign counselors, weather can be cold and damp, camp has become too big, parents are obnoxious on parent day, it can feel a little claustrophobic.

I attended Camp Walt Whitman as a staff member for years and had the opportunity to see campers become more independent, more talented, and more caring by spending their summers at CWW. The directors, staff and campers at Camp Walt Whitman are some of the most extraordinary people I have ever met! The programs and the facitlities are fantastic. The options on the food they serve were always satisfying. Even though we live in CA, my wife and I still visit camp to relive great memories and visit with treasured friends. Now that we have children of our own, we plan to have our kids go to CWW in the near future.

As a camp parent, I must say that Walt Whitman's Directors and Staff have created a warm, nurturing environment in which every camper succeeds and learns sportsmanship, character building and team spirit while developing friendships with fellow campers and staff that last long after the camp experience is over. The staff is the most caring we have seen, and there is energy and excitement everywhere we look. The food at camp is healthy and appealing, and the campers have a great deal of choice. The bunks are nestled into a beautiful setting overlooking the lake, and the playing fields are equipped for every level of play and players. But the most important element of Camp Walt Whitman as our family sees it is the tradition. Campfires and song fests and story-telling, either on campus or while hiking and camping out, give all campers a sense of history, not only of the camp, but of our country's history as well, and I can't imagine our daughter at a more wonderful camp.

I spent 8 summers at walt whitman from ages 9 to 16. Through sports and hikes and hanging out with friends and meeting kids from around the country and counselors from around the world, I formed some of my most valued relationships and learned a ton about myself and who I want to be and more importantly how I want to be. Walt Whitman is one of the most special communities on this planet. My kids will definitely be going.

Basically, let your children experience Walt Whitman for themselves...it's worth it!!
