Click to report rating    12/5/21   5     4     5     5     4   Kanakuk is the most influential camp in the world. It is a CHRISTIAN camp, so the reviews that are angry about the enforcement of religion, I pray the lord can soften any bad memories of this camp. On the subject of the molestion of campers, the staff was fully unaware and there are now strong rules against anything unpure. Truly, this camp is incredible, and the fellowship is wonderful. Click to report rating    12/25/19   4     5     3     2     5   I went to K-1and k-2 for a total of 9 years (summers) and had a wonderful experience in all activities and athletics. I’ve enjoyed k-2 the most out of the two, I felt less judged there for some reason by the staff. I guess it’s because they labeled me as a “lukewarm” Christian. That’s not true, I just don’t pretend to be perfect or have an attitude that my stuff don’t stink just because I’m on the right path with Christ. We are all sinners and we should keep each other accountable so that we all can stay in his word and continuing. One thing that rubs me wrong is they don’t focus on the kampers individually* as much anymore. (Don’t blame them I think I know why) It’s just forcing their opinions now and no other opinion is right or up for debate with them even though they like to make it seem like they are open for new thoughts or discussion. They don’t let you think for yourself or make your mind up for yourself, which is the only thing I think is wrong about this place. Down hill RID: 53075

Click to report rating    6/26/14   5     4     4     5     5   Kanakuk was great when I went there. Going this Saturday June 28, 2014. It is far from us because we live in Colorado. I got sick there, there was a problem with the air conditioning. I met lots of friends, even when I was sick. They pushed me to do things, but that is what I liked about the camp. You have to be pushed sometimes! Jesus is filled there at the camp. And He Reigns Forever! Some people there just are not good campers yet and should not be there (you know the ones that always are behind and are always complaining). Kanakuk was fun for me! And I think you should go! P.S. they have tribes. It's really cool! :) RID: 47462
Click to report rating    6/1/13   2     1     3     1     1   The worst summer camp I have ever been to! No contact with your parents except for letters, no air conditioning, and terrible food. Overall it is awful. They are way to pushy on religion, and they truly don't care about how you feel. I wish I woul have liked it as much as others, but I didn't! I strongly recomend not sending your children to Kanakuk Kamps. RID: 44636
Click to report rating    5/22/13   5     5     5     5     5   Started Kanakuk with my daughter in 1985. Now have 2 granddaughters there--one, age 13, started at age 7. Kamp is the highlight of her life--the other one as well. Can't say enough good things about how the genuineness of the reality of our living, loving Jesus is communicated to these kids. LOVE IT! Click to report rating    4/9/13   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVE this camp and have gone to it for eight years in a rough and want to continue that tradition the staff are all amazing examples and influences of serving Christ at all times and putting God and others before yourself. When I am old enough I want to work at Kamp and be a counselor. Going to Kamp helps you in so many ways from life skills to building your walk with Christ! Choose Kanakuk Kamps!!!! RID: 44217
Click to report rating    2/26/13   1     5     3     1     3   I went to this camp as a young child and ended up going to the hospital. I was having trouble breathing and my counselors completely ignored me until I was almost at the point of collapse. The problem originated at a very smoky cabin where my counselors ignored my problems. Breathing difficulty continued for a year after the camp. They are also very fundamentalist. A book was taken away from me (it was a religious parable) because they though it was fantasy. I was also told all Jews go to Hell. RID: 43822
Click to report rating    1/11/13   5     5     5     5     5   I was a nine year kamper at kanakuk, and I am now on staff. Kanakuk provides an incredible escape for kids to not only branch out and meet other students their age from all over the country, but to be who they want to be outside of their home town. Growing up, I never felt like I fit in with my family or friends at home. However, every summer I got the incredible opportunity to get away to kamp. The spiritual feeding that I did not get at home, I received at kamp. I don't know where I would be in my faith today if it hadn't been for the staff that poured into me all those years, and I can now honestly say that I am living a Romans 1:16 life. When I didn't feel accepted at home, I got to come to camp and be loved on by so many other people just like me. It is truly an incredible and priceless experience. Kids of all ages will love this kamp, and parents, you will see the ways it affects their lives. There is no comparison to Kanakuk. RID: 43367
Click to report rating    5/27/12   4     1     4     3     3   Kanakuk is a great place to come and grow closer to God. I enjoyed spending time with the people I met and for the most part the things I did. Although, the facilities are extremely old. They definitely need to update. Counselors, although nice, can be way too pushy when trying to get you to do something that you may not feel comfortable doing. I went to K-7 for 5 years but after the incident with Pete Newman molesting the boys my parents didn't feel comfortable with me going. RID: 41132
Click to report rating    5/19/12   5     5     5     4     5   I went to K-Kountry and K-West for six summers total during my childhood in the late '90s and had so much fun. It was truly a growing experience for me each summer. RID: 41083
Click to report rating    6/25/11   5     5     5     5     5   I am leaving for my fifth year in 5 days! Manakin I amazing. I am not particularly skilled in any athletic areas except for archery and dance, but the amazing Counselors there honed my limited basketball skills and helped me become a better forward. I love kneeboarding and tubing and love the treetops courses! I have grown so much closer to Christ and met my best friend here! This is a fantastic camp that presents a fantastic experience. Click to report rating    7/20/09   5     5     5     5     5   I just got back from k-kouuntry. I've been there three years. The best camp ever. There is a zipline, blol, trapeez in the pool, slides, and much more. If you want a true camp experience then this is the camp for you. The staff, don't get me started with the staff thier awesome!! So come and have the time of your life at kanakuk kamps. RID: 30487
Click to report rating    7/18/09   5     4     4     4     3   Growing up, I had friends that attended various Kamps. (K-1, K-2, K-7) and I'd always heard amazing things. I finally had the chance to attend K-3, or K-West, and I have to say, it was a great experience for me. In other ratings on this site, I've read that the staff is too pushy with religion. Though I can't vouch for every single member of the staff, I can say that while my counselors and other staff members, were outspoken Christians, I never experienced that same pushiness. There were some stances regarding different issues in popular culture that I thought were a bit extreme, but nothing I ever perceived as being pushy, much less indoctrinating. I also read on this site reports that if you aren't good at sports, you aren't "cool" at Kamp. Again, I have to disagree. I'm AWFUL at sports, and I always had a good experience. I was encouraged to participate and to push myself to whatever lengths I was comfortable with, but never was I made to feel that I was failing if I didn't try. RID: 30455
Click to report rating    6/27/09   5     5     5     5     5   BEST CAMP IN THE HISTORY OF CAMPS! I've been going for three years, and I've never wanted to go home. Every summer I look forward to going back. You will have the best councelors and the best kitchies. Everything is so beautiful about this camp. On your schedule you get to pick your clinic (tennis, soccer, ect.) I never want to go to another camp in my life! They give you so much personal attention that you feel like your at home. You learn so much about God and christ and you have the best food ever!! I TOTALLY RECOMEND THIS CAMP TO EVERYOONE!! RID: 30233
Click to report rating    7/7/08   1     4     3     2     1   I went to this camp a long time ago so take this for what it is worth. I hated it! They were pushy and treated you like you were an idiot if you didn't do all the activities and told me I would fail if I didn't do some hard things I was scared to do. It was awful and couldn't wait for my parents to pick me up! RID: 24638
Click to report rating    6/20/08   5     2     2     3     3   Too pushy on religion, too scheduled and way too many ridiculous rules. Nice staff, however. RID: 24038

Click to report rating    3/2/08   4     2     5     3     3   Kanukuk was a great camp. My favorite thing there was tubing. I can't wait to go back to a different camp next year! RID: 20842
Click to report rating    2/6/08   5     5     5     4     5   Kanakuk is awesome. This summer is going to be my 4th year. You can either stay for 1,2, or4weeks. There are a lot of sports and activities you can do. Also you meet a lot of friends. The only bad thing is saying goodbye to everyone when it's time to go home. To go here you don't need to live in Missouri. You could live in India if you really wanted to go. There are many different camps at Kanakuk. There is golf, k-1, k-2, k-7, k-west, k-kountry, and a lot more. The counselors are in college so they aren't old and cranky. Also my favorite activity is water skiing and tubing in lake Taneycomo. If you went there you would really like it there, no doubt about it... RID: 19921
