    | | 7/16/16 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | This camp is awful!! First of all we had chair placings for the concert band camp. The chairs were ALL WRONG. The first chairs tone was so raspy and gross and the 2nd and 3rd chair were not that good tone wise and technique wise. The consoler put me last chair even though I should've been first chair because the other oboe players were crappy and I felt like I had the best tone and technique. It was all wrong. The professor should've been the one who picked the chairs not the conselor who was a JMU student and doesn't even play your instrument (he plays bassoon and he was judging oboe). The activities were okay. They were mostly just talking to people we met. Also, that campus has too many hills and the walk to "D-Hub" was WAY too long. And there were too many hills to go up and down to get there. The only thing I really liked was the professor. She is new but probably has taught a at colleges before. She actually mostly said to work on what my teacher told me to work on. | |
    | | 2/10/08 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | JMU Summer Band Camp is awesome! You can either do a concert band camp or participate in one of the marching band camps. For marching band they have drumline (usually part of the Yamaha Sounds of Summer camp), guard (beginner, advanced or rifle), drum major camp (beginner and advanced), and marching band for the instrumentalists. Basically you learn and practice the crap out of it for two and a half days and then perform it for the parents. The staffers are really helpful, they'll answer any questions you have regarding anything from the camp to the university itself. Great experience. Highly recommended for marching beginners, people switching instruments, section leaders-to-be, drum majors-to-be, or just to give yourself a little jump-start to your next marching season. For marching veterans it's be nice because everyone there will care just as much - if not more so than you do. No annoying complainers, just great attitudes. | | | |
