Which classic camp activities like swimming, boating, archery, handicrafts, etc. are offered to EVERY camper that passes through Ondessonk’s front gate. Unit structures allowing groups of kids to get close throughout the week and receive personal attention from their specific staff. Adventure programs offered for older kids who have found their new favorite love at camp, be it horseback riding, hiking, rock-climbing... I was a camper for 5 years and a staff member for six years after that and am now excited to start volunteering. Camp Ondessonk is designed in such a way that I gained confidence as a kid, leadership skills as a young counselor, and a great deal of responsibility and adaptability from both. Could not recommend Camp Ondessonk highly enough! RID: 53170
Click to report rating    7/29/17   5     4     5     5     5   I've gone to this camp 6 years and counting, I'm currently in the camps honor society Lodge and think of ondesssonk as a second home. I would highly recommend sending your kids here because of the beautiful nature that surrounds campers, the outdoor activitys, and the memory's they will keep with them forever. Great for kids who are glued to thier phones who need to get out and see that there's more to life than the internet. ~Lodge Camper RID: 51127

Click to report rating    1/10/16   1     3     3     1     3   Camp Ondessonk is located in a very beautiful area. There are a lot of fun activities planned and this camp is for the most part well run. I would NOT recommend this camp to anyone with dietary restrictions or food allergies. My son has a life threatening peanut allergy. We had many emails / calls / discussions prior to my son attending and I was confident he was being well cared for. This was not the case. He was offered food on multiple occasions that had manufacturing warnings for "may contain peanuts". He stopped eating anything other than fruit after day three while he was there out of concerns for his health. When he thought he was having symptoms of an allergic reaction and requested benedryl, he was told to go back to sleep. This is not what his food allergy action plan stated. Overall, I know this is a good camp and many people have had good experiences. I would not want anyone with specific dietary needs to go through what my son did. RID: 49369
Click to report rating    1/9/16   5     5     5     5     5   I love Camp Ondessink so much! It is the one place where I can truly be myself and no one will judge. I have made the most amazing friends and memories there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I also love the activities there, such as horse back riding and archery. They offer awesome adventure camps as well! I was skeptical my first year because of spending all of my time outdoors without electronics, but you forget all about your phone when you are zipping into the lake or looking at beautiful waterfalls. It is my home away from home and will always have a special place in my heart. RID: 49367
Click to report rating    9/6/13   5     5     5     5     5   This is a wonderful camp! I attended for years as a camper and returned to be a counselor while in college. RID: 45940
Click to report rating    8/6/12   5     5     5     5     5   Absolutely wonderful! I recently got back from my 3rd year at camp, and it's just gotten better with time :) RID: 42257
Click to report rating    5/15/12   5     5     5     5     5   Camp O's staff is the best in the business. As a camper in the early naughts I went back every year and saw many familiar faces among the staff, a rarity in the summer camp world. The programing is traditional for a midwest summer camp and they get it right at every activity. The scenery is beautiful, unlike any place I've ever been. Most of the facilities are older, but they maintain them well. The rustic accommodations are a great part of the experience. You won't find a better camp, especially for the low price they are somehow able to offer. RID: 41048
Click to report rating    1/16/12   4     5     5     5     5   The staff is fun, energetic, and caring but when it comes to overnight they do sit on thier buttoms and make all the campers do the work. The facilities are open showers stalls and closed toilet stalls but as long as you wear you're bathing suit you can't complain. The activities are AWESOME especialy the ranges (archery and riflery.) All the activities are fun even council. In council you learn about Ondessonk which means bird of prey. Each day when our unit goes out to breakfast or something and makes you scream you name which makes everybody happy because everybody likes to scream. When i got REALLY BAD bug bites and heat rash the nurse gave me advice on how to handle it by the day after it was all mostly gone. This yearr was a great year for me. This year will be my 3rd year but my 4th and 5th week. Last year i got into lodge so i am pumped to do the lodge ceremony this year. I LOVE CAMP ONDESSONK!! Csmp watch out here i come. HEEPWAH!!! +o RID: 37735

Click to report rating    5/10/10   1     2     4     2     4   I went there in the Mid 90's with my cousin. Our counselors did nothing but sit on a table while we collected a mountain of sticks to do our cook-out, that's just the least of the problems. I know a lot of people that went there and loved it. WE DID NOT!! She was bit by a spider and even though her hand swelled up, the nurse did nothing about it even though it was quite clear that the spider most likely was poisonous. Our counselors could tell that I wasn't comfortable showering with other girls in an OPEN shower room area with no curtains to separate stalls, yet forced me to do so. Other than the horrid staff we had, the activities were great. After that year I went to Camp Carson, even through their CIT program and loved it. Since then I've worked at 3 different camps. So even though my experience here was bad, I still love summer camps. RID: 32742

4/25/10   5     5     5     5     5   I went here in the late 90's and loved every bit of it. My mom was also a camper here. The traditions are great, staff was friendly and it was fun to meet kids from all over. I was not raised Catholic but did not feel out of place at all during my weeks at Ondessonk. A great experience for all children! Heepwah! RID: 32647

Click to report rating    7/22/08   5     5     5     5     5   It's like every camp movie you've ever seen -- but better. I was a Camp O girl in the 70s, and the experiences I had there continue to be a huge and positive influence on my life today. My daughter is a camper now, and while they've upgraded the facilities and broadened some of the programs, the traditional camp's weekly schedule remains exactly the same! Go and learn what "Heepwah" really means! RID: 25009
Click to report rating    2/14/08   5     5     5     5     5   I went with some friends in the late 70's. It's a time I cherish. I'll be sending my stepson there this summer. He and his friends are looking forward to it. RID: 20275
