12/20/14   4     5     5     5     5   I started camp echo lake as an upper junior as a shy 10 year old but because of my experiences at CEL, I feel like I have become more confident and mature. Echo Lake does not single people out if they are not good at an activity, but they try to see what they are special at. I have met some of my best friends at echo lake. Going there was probably the best decision I ever made. The food is great and they have tons of options (especially for people like me who are picky eaters), the activities are well organized, and Most of my counselors have been great. There have been some minor problems with some girls and staff in my group but those problems could be found at any camp. Tony, Laurie, and Brenda are great and they do a fantastic job! Its going to be my 5th summer as UVG and I can't wait! Money well spent!! RID: 48225

3/26/14   1     1     1     1     1   I was a camper for four years at Camp Echo Lake. It has been an entire 16 years since my last summer and the enduring damage that these irresponsible and insensitive camp runners inflicted on me has affected my life. I was not only bullied, by both campers and staff, but was a picky eater who starved due to lack of any edible food options, losing over 10 lbs in 7 weeks and establishing an eating disorder that lasted years. It is very dangerous for a 12 year old girl to learn how to cope with eating two pieces of fruit for dinner, and the fact that no one cared or helped, and that my counselors went so far as to deny me options available to children with documented dietary restrictions baffles me still. I remember once being yelled at for asking the kitchen staff for a piece of American cheese. My parents paid thousands of dollars for me to attend this camp. I'm pretty sure they could've spared it. I'd like my money back. Also, my adult counselors showered naked with us...so yeah RID: 47085
Click to report rating    4/8/12   4     5     5     5     5   I love camp Echo Lake. The experience is amazing, making you look forward to it summer after summer. I love the camp, but I had a bad round of counselors last summer. They didn't care for anyone, made kids cry, and never let them take choice. They's rather sleep, and they'd never voulenteer to do any activities. One said they didn't want to go back to camp to be a counselor. Another said "Take care of this one for me, I'm eating." when a friend of mine was homesick.... However, I still love the camp. From sports to the arts, everyone has a home there. The kids are great....there was not one kid I didn't love. Everyone at Echo Lake smiles, and feels very included and has a second home: some people like sports...some people like art...some people sign up for every play........ It's amazing how everyone fits in. Color war (tribal) was really fun, too. Even if you lose, you still feel proud of yourself. The sportsmanship there lets everyone be a winner. Attitude matters at Echo Lake. CEL!! RID: 40723

9/3/11   5     5     5     5     5   As someone who has spent their last eight summers at Echo Lake, I can honestly say that this place is amazing. Sure, there will be the occasional bad counselor or a few mean girls, but you will find that at any summer camp. Almost all of the staff are incredible and very passionate about what they do, many of them being past campers themselves. The camp itself is beautiful, and is kept up well by a dedicated maintenance crew. There is a wide variety of activities and you really do learn something new every day. The camp spirit is amazing, it is very rare to see a camper that isn't smiling, laughing, or cheering. Echo Lake is a place where your child can learn and grow. They will make lifelong friends and have the summer of their lives. The camp director is amazing, he knows each and every child and is more than willing to take time out of his day to talk to them. The camp feels like a community and everyone knows one another. Send your child to Echo Lake, you will not regret it. RID: 36882

1/28/11   1     1     1     1     1   tony stein does not know the first thing about children he only wants kids to be robots. It has now become a special needs camp, especially for boys Theres no individuality, stupid inane rules, like not being able to wear flip flops even to the pool. They continue to hire kids who have drug and alcohol problems as counselors. They think they are 'all that' and they are not, especially not for 10K per kid per summer... i wasted close to 100K sending my kids there before he took over. he comes from a great camping family but it obviously has skipped a generation. There are many other better camps to go to. DOnt waste your money going to Echo Lake. RID: 34958

11/9/10   4     5     5     5     5   I am not even sure if I am able to put Echo Lake into words. That place changed and shaped me as a person. I am going to be and Upper Village camper of 2011 and I can't wait!! Main Village though, cannot even compare to Senior Village. Main Village is for campers around the ages of 8-12 and it is not bad at all. It is still amazing. However, this year I entered the Senior Village and I was blown away. The staff are for the most part amazing! They are like your friends and they teach you life lessons I will use forever. The director, Tony Stein, knows every camper's name and knows their parents names as well. Second Home? Try my first. 12885 green and gold forever<3 RID: 34392

8/5/09   5     5     5     5     5   Echo lake is the most important part of my life. I attended for 7 years, and each year helped me become a better, happier person. The campers, staff, and environment have shaped me into who I am today. Starting at age 10, I loved coming to camp each year to see old friends and make new ones, and each year was better than the last. My last 2 years, 4n4 and Leader In Training, were life-changing. While out west for 4 weeks on 4n4 and working with younger campers as an LIT, I gained confidence and learned valuable leadership skills. I definitely hope to come back next year as a counselor to enhance the summers of new campers that follow in my footsteps. RID: 30649

Click to report rating    7/21/08   5     5     5     5     5   The camp is fantastic. There are few places as special as Echo Lake. My middle child had a bad experience at another camp. Being more scrutinizing, my wife and I discovered Echo Lake. My middle child is enjoying her 3rd summer in Warrensburg and my youngest is enjoying her 1st summer. The camp's philosophy is what sets it apart. The camp exists for the benefit of each and every camper. Each child is a valued member of the camp community. The confidence that this instills in the children and the social skills that are developed in this environment are extraordinary. Tony Stein is a wonderful guy and sets the tone. Great effort is made to avoid cliquiness amongst the kids. The affiliation with Mory's Camp (a camp started in Tony's dad'd honor for underprivleged children) is an added bonus. The bottom line is that my children feel loved there and love being there. I am confident that they will be better people for the experience. RID: 25003
Click to report rating    7/10/08   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is like a second home for my son. The director is phenomenal, and the staff is as well. They are warm and welcoming, and the families are down to earth. I am proud to say we are an ECHO LAKE family! RID: 24744
Click to report rating    6/29/08   4     4     4     4     4   I went to echo lake for 4 years, and had a great 2 years out of that 4. all of these categories do deserve 4's but the problem was the people in my group. Everyone spread rumors about me, and made my social life there horrible. Fortunately though, my group seemed to be rare compared to the rest of the group, and would highly recommend this camp! Click to report rating    2/22/08   5     5     5     5     5   Echo Lake is without a doubt the most amazing place in the world. It is a place where even the shy kids find their voice. The loud kids that like the spotlight can have it there. Everybody is loved by not only the campers and counselors but by the head staff and director, who by the way knows every campers name.As a camper for eight years there is nothing more I look forward to than being able to go back as a counselor and spend many more unforgettable summers there. The support at Echo Lake is unbelievable. If you have one problem or thirty problems, there is always someone there for you.I am a changed person because of Echo Lake, and I owe many of my accomplishments in life to the people who guided me through my summers from the ages of nine to sixteen. If you are looking for a camp where your kids can call you whenever, play videogames, and eat junk food whenever, don't send your kids here. But if you are looking to find a second home for your kids with endless love, Echo Lake is the pla RID: 20550

Click to report rating    8/13/07   5     5     5     5     5   i just finished my 8th summer and went on the 4 n 4 program. Echo Lake has changed my life in ways i can't describe. It's built my personallity, my confidence and esspecially my social skills. Everything about Echo Lake is incredible. The activities offered are taught by highly capable staff with knowledge of their area and a want to teach children. Tony Stein, the director of the camp, is loved by all and is one of the best men i have ever met. I read other reviews and people talked about annoying counselors but you will get that at any camp. You can't have every counselor appeal to every personality. The camp is very spirited which is great because that means that children can be themselves and let themselves not be over powered by "real world" distractions. I love Echo Lake. RID: 13919
     6/3/07   3     3     1     1     1   don't believe the hype. they promise the world and deliver nothing but a facade. RID: 11441
Click to report rating    2/25/07   4     5     5     5     5   OMG!! This has been the best summer eva. My first summer here I was 12 years old. All of the girls were so welcoming. I have made so many amazing friends here. I met people from all over the US and also Canada. HOT BOYS. I have had so many good times and so many memories and friendships that will last forever and ever and ever and ever! The cousleors are so cool and I love the LITs. I did get in trouble with the head of camp though for something did not do...:( The activities were so fun. I learned to waterski and i went tubing fo the first time. I never got homesick at this camp and the only day I was sad were the two days of camp before we had to go home. Echo is my second home. SOOO excited for next year. luv my gurlies!! mwa RID: 8098

Now, it will be my 5th summer and i LOVE IT!!!! my only advice is not to join this camp after like 12 years old because unfortunately, new campers arent welcomed very well to girls. I like having the boys too!! I get to see my brothers everyday! RID: 7538
Click to report rating    11/10/06   5     5     5     5     5   A truly amazing place that cares about the kids that go there. As a parent I cannot express how helpful the Director and Head Counselors were. My children have had many glorious summers at the "Lake" and have become better peolpe for going there. The instruction is wonderful and each year my children came home with new skills. I doubt if you could find a better place to send your children! RID: 4801
