My 11-year-old son was determined by a psychologist to have been traumatized at North Star Camp for Boys. When I described my son’s experiences to the camp owner, he never responded to any of my concerns. I wrote him a number of emails but he never acknowledged any of the concerns, never apologized for my son’s experiences and never indicated that he investigated or took corrective action to prevent this from happening to other boys.

Alright so after attending this camp for seven summers I can without a doubt say it was an incredible experience. The staff are incredibly welcoming and make everyone feel as if they belong. The grounds are well kept and the activities are limitless. Coming from Texas and knowing only one boy my first year, I now, after 7 years, can say I’m part of a brotherhood. The best thing about this camp is the 10 day long Canadian wilderness trip boys going into 10th grade take. I learned a ton about myself and pushed myself to new heights. An overall fantastic experience at this camp.

Very disappointing despite this camp's great reputation. The activities were limited and not geared to be fulfilling for relatively brighter children. Also there was too much down time and not enough to effectively distract the younger campers. Washhouse facilities were often clogged. My son was looking forward to the much hyped sleepaway camp experience and now has no desire to repeat the experience. This being said, perhaps my kid is just not the rah-rah summer camp type.

An amazing place. I was a counselor here for two summers and wish I could return every summer. North Star is my extended family, and is an amazing place for kids to live in a community and for young men to grow into adults as staff members. I was nervous coming into the atmosphere from a different cultural/economical background than most there. I soon found out the worries were unwarranted and everyone is accepted for who they are and encouraged to explore and discover what that maybe.

Amazing camp - warm, caring environment that provided my son with 6 great years as a camper and 5 as a staff member as well. Great boys there who are truly nice boys, and that's the culture of North Star. I was nervous to send my son, but couldn't have asked for more.
