Just had our daughter finish her 6th year and son his first. Great facilities, people, program, and overall attention toward learning more about being a christian. Even in the few moments I have experiencing camp during closing ceremonies I can see the supportive atmosphere kanakuk provides for my children.

My child ended up going to the hospital. She told the counselors she couldn't sleep in a building full of smoke, but they got angry at her. The smoke made her sick and she ended up in the hospital. They also preached intolerance, and went into her trunk and removed books they disapproved of without telling her. They preached intolerance.

Staff was hypocritical, and the camp seemed more "niche" based than any other camps.

We signed up for a sports camp with a Christian theme - but it turned out to be Krazy Kamp. Since when? Did Jesus preach intolerance?!!! My daughter came away emotionally distressed and disgusted with the narrow minded bigoted views preached 24/7. This wasn't a sports camp - it was indoctrination camp for future tea party voters give me a break!!! K7 bashed the actual slogan "coexist"...because apparently Jesus doesn't believe in coexisting...in addition to bashing a woman's right to be a leader??? Wow - never coming back and never recommending you to anyone ever.

The teenagers who run the camp are immature and I agree with the othr rater who said that it's overly pushy on religion and mostly makes kids feel great if they're athletic and assertive. My 9 year old son said he was up until 11:30 with two counselors (friends were all in bed) trying to convince him to ring a bell signifying that he had accepted the lord as his personal savior. We are Episcopal, and we don't use that language or pressure tactics on children. He was confused. He said there was "poop all over the bathroom toilets all week." No soap in the bathrooms and they were never cleaned. He made himself sick trying to avoid the bathroom. They tell parents to put $ in an acct for things kids might need from the camp store. I'm thinking snacks? But no, the store only contains frivolous expensive marketing stuff ($15 socks, $35 foam seat.)Terrible. He enjoyed some fun activities. We will not be returning. This is not my brand of Christianity.

IT WAS THE WORST WEEK OF MY LIFE. I STARVED DUE TO THE HORRIBLE FOOD, I WAS DEHYDRATED DUE TO THE LACK OF AVAILABLE WATER.

Kanakuk has two systemic problems: 1) Camps are extremely crowded. Despite their extensive screening process, it's UNREASONABLE to assume that college-age kids can recognize and properly manage kids with anxiety issues. 2) Kanakuk has a strict policy that "prevents ANY contact" between the child and their parents for the duration of the camp. Our daughter's anxiety was undiagnosed prior to her week at camp, so this is the sum of her experience. Imagine the worst level of anxiety you've ever experienced. The counselors who don't know you think you're whining, and your peers who don't know you think you're just weak. Finally, imaging that the only people that can help are separated from you for the next 6 days, because the rules say you can't contact them. This environment is created at a Christian camp, done with the intent of helping you to grow in your faith. Bottom line - avoid Kanakuk if your kids are under 16. And, get the "no-contact" policy changed.

I went to this camp for eleven years and realize that every camp has their flaws, but I have never seen another camp the rivals what Kanakuk does. K-7 is a week long kamp so every day is packed and is non stop action for a week. I know counselors who work there and exhaust themselves throwing everything they have into each week. there will always be kids who hate it because their parents or someone else forced them to go, but I have seen hundreds of kids accept christ there. The camp is a little more geared toward those who are already christians and need a place to go to get away from the individualistic attitude of the world. I love this kamp and it has molded me year after year to become the person I am today. Keith Chancey is an incredible leader and is my mentor. Its not for everyone, but it is incredible and I don't know what my life would have been without that place and the counselors I looked up to!

I went to K-7 for two years. My first year, it was kind of fun. I really developed a strong relationship with Christ. My councelors were wonderful christian role models. The second year, I didn't have as much fun. There was a girl in my cabin that was SO bossy and she made a girl in my cabin cry. The councelors didn't notice because the girl was two faced and they LOVED her. And then at the end of camp, she got an award like a happy camper award. She ruined that camp experience. The activities at this camp you do with your cabin. At my other camps, I enjoy picking out my classes. Also, 1 week isn't enough time to build deep relationships like Camp Greystone, which I attend for 5 weeks every summer. It is a great place to find Jesus, though. And, they had fun cheers

Don't go to this camp. It is awful. It is like boot camp! The councelers are horrible and mean, and the activities are in such an order you feel like if you mess up, they'll kill you. Don't go to this camp!!!! Also, they are so pushy about god! I'm christuan and all, but these people think that we ha te God and so they scare the living daylight out of you about what happens if you're not a follower! Please, don't go! And if you get a councelor named Mandy, run away! She's very mean!

Kanakuk is overrated. You are only cool if you are good at sports and the staff is pushy on religion
