    | | 8/27/06 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | They promise you 2 lessons with Phila. orchestra members, but many teachers are NOT orchestra members. They promise you a class with the principal 2nd violin and then she palms you off on her father as the teacher. The camp hires almost no real counselors: they use untrained parents, some of whom took the job to promote their personal businesses. They promise you organized sports, and what you get is a free choice recess every day. Although they have 6 orchestras at different levels, they save $$ by giving them all the same music, so the lower end orchestras end up playing music that's way too hard. My conductor took everything at a ridiculous tempo and told us how much our sloppy playing would impress everyone. The private teacher spent my lesson time eating and had nothing to say. The administration is disorganized. They actually charged parents to come hear their kids at the final concert, in addition to the sky-high tuition. This camp is out to make money. Teaching is secondary. | |
