This was my son's first summer in the program and he could not have been happier. It is so well supervised and the kids really feel that they are at camp and not a school program. There was swimming everyday at the Plainview pool or POB middle school if it rained. The kids had trips once a week (bowling, movies, beach, Fire Island) and an end of the summer picnic at Syosset Park. They had computer time, home and careers, arts and crafts, and of course their specials as dictated by their IEPs. It does start a bit early, but it was nice to have him home early so we still had time to go to the pool/beach etc...I grew up in Plainview and am so proud and overwhelmed with the amount of care and support this district gives to special needs kids. Click to report rating    8/16/06   5     3     3     4     5   Mature concerned staff (teachers, college and grad school education majors - as opposed to high school kids and less directed college students found at most camps). Extremely low ratio of campers to staff which results in well supervised, safe environment. Less enriching and exciting than a more traditional outdoorsy type camp. Most activities held in school building so has a bit of a school feel. For kids with special needs its a comfortable environment where friends are made and school-year friendships are reinforced. Nice trips about once a week. Free program. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity in our community. RID: 2097
Click to report rating    3/31/06   3     2     2     3     1   You get what you pay for, sadly enough. Its good to have this facility at no cost but you dont get much there.. The facilities are null and void RID: 92
Click to report rating    3/21/06   5     2     4     4     5   It's great that the school district offers this for special needs kids that might not be successful elsewhere. They love the trips and the daily swimming. They receive academic support and related services if necessary (although limited). It definitely needs to be a longer day. RID: 50
Click to report rating    3/12/06   5     3     5     5     5   Free program for special needs children residing in the Plainview Old Bethpage district. Awesome staff, great activities and fun trips. Kids swim daily outside at Plainview Pool. Six week program. Only downside is the EARLY hours: 8-2:45. RID: 4
