The let campers get bullied by other campers even had physical assaults and do nothing about it. My son was bullied for serval years after finally having enough of the Director tell me to trust her she would deal with it, I told her I wanted to know exactly how she would deal with it and how she would ensure my child’s safety. The Director of the camp refused to give me a plan so I said then the next time it happens I will have to call the police. She then hung up on me and several hours later sent an email kicking my kids out of the camp and not allowing them to go on the planned sleep away camp that they were already packed for and excited about the next day. The Director is just an evil human being and the owners never even responded to the issue either. They allowed the bully to win and my children to be victimized twice once by the bully and again by the camp! Protect your kids Stay far away from Summer Trails! RID: 53804
Click to report rating    8/8/18   3     3     3     3     2   No Make-up Days Picture this, you've spent nearly $3,000 on a day camp for your son or daughter. Everything goes well for the first few weeks when suddenly your son comes down with strep throat which is highly contagious. You opine to the powers that be over at Summer Trails Day Camp about the situation and request (1) make-up day in the week following. This is so that the antibiotic will have time to ensure that the bacteria will not spread to others. Imagine your surprise when you are told, "sorry no make-ups". So let me get this straight, I'm keeping my son from getting the rest of the children infected, yet you are actively encouraging me to not waste my money by just sending my kid to camp with whatever communicable illness he or she might have. It's likely this policy is why my son got sick to begin with! This is utter and complete stupidity and frankly, pure laziness on the part of those who run the camp. RID: 52143
Click to report rating    2/18/14   5     5     5     5     5   I am proud to say that I have been a part of Summer Trails for over 18 years as both a camper and a counselor. As a camper I woke up every morning excited to get to camp to see what great activities were on our schedule that day. At camp I learned how to swim, play a variety of sports, make arts and crafts, sing silly fun camp songs, and making great friends. I also learned how to read a calendar from the Summer Trails calendar of special events so every evening I could count down the days to crazy hat day, team week, and the next time Uncle Funzy came to camp. As a counselor I was able to help many campers have the same great Summer Trails experience that I did and I was able to find my path in life as a teacher. I have 18 years of fantastic memories, stories, and friends from camp and I can not wait for all the future camp stories to come. If you are looking for the best summer camp experience you can provide for your child the only choice is Summer Trails. RID: 46781

2/9/14   5     5     5     5     5   I cannot say enough amazing things about Summer Trails. It is literally my son's favorite place on Earth. He stays for extended day in the afternoon, and he gets mad when I pick him up to leave. He has gone the past 2 summers and will be returning again this summer. He loves every activity from baseball to swimming to gaga, cooking and even arts and crafts! My son LOVES baseball and was involved in their Rookies Program. In such a short time his skills improved. He can't wait until 3rd grade when he can do Baseball Camp the entire summer. The staff is amazing, the facility is amazing, all around, BEST CAMP EVER! Now if they can just figure out how to extend summer! RID: 46728
Click to report rating    2/9/14   5     5     5     5     5   This will be my boys' 5th year. They look forward to it every year (and often cry on the last day). The baseball camp is phenomenal. Coaches are very receptive to the individual needs of the players. If there is any difficulty with your child's ability, it can be easily addressed and worked on. Coaches are enthusiastic and truly love the game of BASEBALL. Great equipment and drills will develop your baseball player child. Highlight is having a MLB player visit the camp. Traditional camp is amazing. Numerous activities will keep your child busy all day. The dirtier they are, the more fun they had, even during a little liquid sunshine. Swimming instruction is excellent. Improvement shown every year. Counselors, specialists, coaches, lifeguards/swimming instructors, nursing staff are all enthusiastic. Many of them are past campers at STDC. How many camps are there that bring an entire carnival to camp...rides included? You and your children will not be disappointed when you choose STDC. RID: 46725
Click to report rating    2/6/14   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter looks forward to Summer Trails every year, this will be her 4th one. Each year we see her swimming skills improve and excitement over trying new activities. As a parent, the counselors take great care of her and there's a fantastic staff/camper ratio. We did have a medical incident and are so glad the nurses took wonderful care of her. Wish I could've gone to camp as a kid. How many days until summer??!! RID: 46713
2/5/14   5     5     5     5     5   I have been associated with Summer Trails for over 25 years as both a camper and staff member. It is truly more than just a camp, it's definitely like a family. I have been involved in every facet of camp, from their traditional day camp, the baseball camp and even travel camp (when it existed back in the mid 90's) I can't wait to bring my own kids to camp, starting this summer with my son! Click to report rating    8/2/13   2     1     1     1     1   My son went for one entire summer to the baseball camp. While his first summer was very successful the second was not. He is a true lover of baseball and would play year round if he could. Upon his second summer there they ruined his swing. He was unable to hit the ball and was constantly asking the coaches to pitch faster to him. They refused to comply even after my husband and I both spoke with them. We also asked if maybe he could be moved up to a different skill level again refused to help. He then finally got so fed up and frustrated with it that he said he no longer wanted to go. They refused to refund any of the $4500 we paid even though he only went for three weeks. since he has left the camp he has regained his swing and is happily playing baseball again. Even more frustrating to me as a parent we only received one communication from them regarding him leaving. I would NOT recommend this camp to anyone. RID: 45469
8/1/13   5     1     3     5     2   As someone who went from a camper to a counselor, there was a much greater experience as a camper. Behind the scenes what campers and parents do not see is the gross abuse of the counselors. Jamie Surkin especially is condescending and rude to her employees. She does not stick up for her counselors. Even in an event that I am aware of where a counselor was physically threatened by a parent who was upset with a counselor, Jamie did not defend her staff and blamed the issue on the counselor instead. Great for kids, but understand that the counselors are very under paid, overworked and extremely underappreciated by higher up management. Its too bad Dave and Ann Left, it went way down hill with the management change. RID: 45464
Click to report rating    6/7/13   5     4     4     4     3   Summer Trails is a great day camp, though it is as expensive as overnight camps in upstate New York and New England. The swimming program (in swimming pools, not ponds or lakes) is terrific; your camper's swimming skills will improve markedly. Summer Trails does not have a large central building for use on bad weather days, and this is a disadvantage. That said, my children have attended the camp for four years noe, and they always desire to return. RID: 44685

Click to report rating    7/10/09   5     5     5     5     4   My son went to this camp when he was younger and he liked it. His only complaint was that the pool was cold. They now have heated pools and my daughter is now going and she loves it. She wants to go again next year. They have a wonderful, loving staff and I feel my kids are in good hands. They also have a lot of great activities. RID: 30367
Click to report rating    2/2/09   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is not just a camp, but a family. Once your child goes here, whether it be for 8 weeks or 4 weeks, they are welcomed into the family. Send your child here, and they won't want to come home! RID: 28806

Click to report rating    12/3/07   5     4     5     5     5   The Summer Trails staff makes you and your kids feel like a part of the camp family. My kids have been going for years and have expressed a desire to be C.I.T's and then join the counsellor staff. RID: 17659
Click to report rating    7/1/07   5     5     5     5     5   I love it! It's only started last week but I can't wait until the weekend is over to go back. I made some great friends here. RID: 12641

Click to report rating    2/2/07   5     5     5     5     5   OMG...this camp is the bomb! The staff really care how we feel and they make sure everyday is cool. My brother and sister both go as well. I think everyone should go to this camp for one summer to just see what they are missing. Call and speak with any in the office. The new lady Jamie is great. I can't wait for this summer. Hope to seya soon. RID: 7448
