A rat walked along the wall in the "health center" where adults were training during our evening session. Port-a- pottys were the main option near the cabins. They were foul and really not a reasonable main option for Women and young ladies traveling for a training weekend. The cabins all smelled musky and stale. Windows could not be opened as the screens had holes and every time you opened a window for air, the bugs came zooming in. No electric at the cabins. Not even a small light at the doorstep which is typical at other camps we've gone to. This may have ruined me and my troop for future "training weekends" The experience was foul. RID: 52256
Click to report rating    7/7/15   5     1     1     1     1   I was just at this camp yesterday and I broke down crying and I went home last night I was miserable and now I know how allergic to Mosquitos I really am they have government cheese in every thing and and very unhealthy choices for food and in one comment it said that you co e home a totally different person! There right I haven't smiled in 4 days and I'm incredibly depressed and the beds mad my rib cage basically move and it's painful to breath I'll be fine but I defiantly don't recommend this camp to any one RID: 48831
Click to report rating    4/20/15   5     5     5     5     5   Laurel rocks! It is my home away from home, I love it here. The people i have met, and the things I have done are things I would never have had the chance to do anywhere else. I would send my child here if you want her to learn independence, make friends who come from different backgrounds, and blossom into a new person. The platform tents that make up most of the living arrangements may not seem appealing on paper, but they are surprisingly cozy and protect you from the elements. RID: 48604
Click to report rating    6/19/14   5     5     5     5     5   I know a lot of people have problems with this camp. A lot of people have problems with the Girl Scout organization camps in general. When I was a kid my mom sent me to this camp. I can tell everyone right now that if I did not attend this summer camp I would be much different than I am now. The counselors focus on having the girls grow as individuals. When people complain about not having any time to relax, it is true. They keep the girls going so that way they don't have time to sit down and get homesick. They also teach the girls how to build life long friendships and to really let go and be theirselves which travels into real life situations. My daughter is now 9 and even though we live in Maine she comes to Connecticut for six weeks of this camp since she was 6. From these three years at Laurel I can see so much growth in her and the responsibility and leadership qualities are all ready beginning to shine like they never had before. Once you go to Laurel your life changes forever. RID: 47421
Click to report rating    6/21/13   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is absolutely amazing! I've been going for about 5 years and I have had more and more fun as the years go on, the counsellors and other campers feel like family and I honestly feel really close to everyone there. It really is a great place where you can go to enjoy outdoors and have alot of fun with great people, definitely a quality camp experience RID: 44836

Click to report rating    11/3/07   5     5     5     5     5   My summers spent at this camp were amazing. I still keep in touch with half of the girls and counselors I met there. I think it's really cool to meet people from different countries, and a lot of them come back every year. RID: 16732

9/4/06   2     2     1     1     1   I HATED this camp! I went here a few years ago, enrolled in the horseback riding program. Although I had only been riding for two years, I still knew enough to trot and canter. They let us trot once, and other then that we just walked. And that was in the most advanced ring. While some of the staff were pleasent people, too many were always yelling at the smallest things. I only gave a two because there were a couple good staff members. The camp was too big to feel at all like a family. They overbooked my program, so we got to ride less than half the amount that we were told we were paying for. All in all, it was a terrible experience. RID: 2799
