3/12/17   5     4     5     4     5   This is gonna be long. This is my fourth year and love Camp Jewell. It's my favorite place in the entire world. I wish the sessions were three weeks instead of just two though. I would never ask for any better camp. I go to main camp and ranch camp. Overall, such good camp. RID: 50537

4/30/15   5     5     5     5     5   I was a camper and counselor at Camp Jewell over a decade, am still involved with the camp and plan to send my children there when they are old enough. Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, Camp Jewell is a top notch facility with incredible staff from around the world. Campers select from a variety of activities including horseback riding, tennis, canoeing, art, and more. There are campfires, songs and games as you would expect from a camp. Camp Jewell is well run, fun and safe. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else. RID: 48628

2/4/15   5     5     5     5     5   Easily my favorite place on earth. I've made so many lifelong friends there, and every year, I'm just waiting to go back. I first went to Camp Jewell with a friend from home, but almost immediately made tons of new friends that I'm still close with today. Last summer was my third year, and I'm very excited for CITs next summer. The staff at camp is wonderfully caring and supportive, and they make everything fun. The facilities are great, and there are so many things to do at camp that you can't do anywhere else. It's really a unique experience that I wish every kid could have. Most people who go to Camp Jewell come back every single year, and I think that really goes to show what a close-knit and loving community it is. I know people who have been going to camp since they were eight, and people who's parents went to camp. It is impossible to describe how much I love Camp Jewell, but I can say that, if you're considering going, or sending your child, you really should. RID: 48367

2/1/15   5     5     5     5     5   Camp jewell may have been one of the best things to happen to me. It is a place where i've made friends who are more than just friends but people who care about me and are always there for me. We still keep in touch throughout the year and I don't know what i would do without them. I'm already signed up for next year to be a CIT and it will be my 8th summer at the camp and i can't wait to go. The counselors care about you so much and are always there for you. The activities and the facilities are fantastic. I hope to one day work here so i can provide the experience i received to another generation of campers! This place really is fantastic. If you are worried about the church aspect, don't be. You are not forced to do anything you don't want to do. And to the people who are complaining about doing chores, they teach you responsibility (you have to earn that green bead) and are really not that awful. I would recommend this camp to anyone!  11/19/13   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Jewell is AWESOME! Both of my campers had a great time there, they made lots of new friends that they stay in touch with. The counselors and directors were amazing, the activities fun and most of all my kids begged me to stay! They will definitely be returning! RID: 46285

I have been coming to Camp Jewell for 4 years and loved it more each year I went back. The counselors are AMAZING and the people you will meet will stay with you your entire life. I would recommend this camp to anyone. RID: 46013

8/14/12   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Jewell is the best place ever; it is my home away from home. It's a place where I can feel safe and be with friends. I came here the first time when I was twelve, and I wish I had come before. I had been here in the winter, and was anxious to see what the summer was like. The strangest thing? The camp director remembered me from the winter! He must see thousands of kids and he remembered me? The CITS could be really annoying, but the staff was amazing. I became really close with my councelors and became more open to diversity. There were a couple issues I had with kids, but I made friends with a lot of kids and I keep in touch with them. The activities are so much fun. The rope swing was awesome too. The food's great. I became closer with my best friend here. This is the best camp ever. I know that Camp Jewell is a place that I will be back to. If you are undecided about coming to Camp Jewell or not, I was but this was the best experience of my life. You'll love Camp Jewell!! RID: 42374

11/10/11   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Jewell is amazing. I went for 3 years, and my only regret was not going to camp earlier! My CIT year was by far the best. Camp gets even better as you get older, you keep old friends and make great new ones. Younger campers will sometimes complain about no enough interaction with the opposite sex, but older campers spend basically the whole time with the opposite sex. CITs also have curfews and free time. You experience leaderhsip roles while working with youunger campers and you really get to make a difference. Stayiing at Camp Jewell for 4 weeks was an incredible, life changing experience. Camp Jewell is not a "country club camp." The facilites are great, but camp is still rustic, there are campouts and hikes and plenty of time in the woods. Food is pretty good too. The staff are great, you can tell how much they love camp and it's great to see them year after year. Camp Jewell is simply incredible, some of my best experiences ever at this place. RID: 37251

8/13/11   5     5     5     5     5   My kids have gone to Jewell for many years. Their experiences there have shaped them. They have leaned valuable social skills which have prepared them for life. Their camp friends are their friends forever and they come from all all walks of life. Best money I have spent on their childhood experiences and they would agree! Camp Jewell is the best! RID: 36694

Click to report rating    3/1/11   5     5     5     5     5   This is an AMAZING camp! It's like a big family! I'm coming every year for as long as I can. It's so fun! If you're already a rider, you'll get better. If you have never ridden before in your life, you'll be great by the end of the summer! RID: 35233
Click to report rating    7/26/10   5     5     5     4     5   Camp Jewell is an awesome place to have fun and to make friends. Really close friends.cabin 9B really was the best cabin ever. There was rare disagreement and everybody was happy and content with everyone else. The camp counselors were great, understanding, funny, sweet and loving. You really became attached to them. Facilities were also great. yes the toilet got clogged but atleast we didnt have to go outside... :) Activities let me bond with new people that werent in cabin 9. Personal attention was a 4 because the counselors couldnt give everyone the same amount of attention since there were a lot of girls in cabin 9B. overall it deserved an 8/10 RID: 33488
Click to report rating    4/11/10   2     3     2     3     2   Our school takes us to Camp Jewel every year for 5th and 6th graders. The first year, my friend and I hated it! The staff was horrible to us. One staff member called some kids babies (not in the good way). There was one staff member who was very mean to us (it seemed like she hated our group) and the years we came back, she was promoted. We were in Hidden Ranch and there were only two showers per cabin which made things hard. The beds were also uncomfortable. The first year we went there, the activities were okay. The second time we went there, the activates were only BORING "team building" activities, one time on the zip line and one time on the giant swing. That made the trip really boring. They did not give us that much attention. The first time we went there it was SO cold. I love the cold and I brought a heavy winter coat and I was freezing. The second time was a little better. Though it is not the worst camp ever, it is NOT a good one. RID: 32574
Click to report rating    11/23/09   5     5     5     5     5   Amazing sleepaway camp for anyone looking for fun, adventure, and challenges! Great activities, staff, and facilities. Meet many new people from around the world. Many opportunites to try new things. Teaches core YMCA vlaues, leadership, and builds confidence. Memories to last a life time! RID: 31612

11/27/08   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Jewell has been the single most influential place in my life. I started there in the 80s and continued until 2002. My friends from Jewell are my best friends as an adult. I continue to go back for volunteer programs and reccommend it to everyone else. I learned self-esteem, independence, and many other important values there. I would encourage everyone to send their kids here. The people accept you for who you are and really embrace all types of people. This is not just a camp= it is a family. RID: 27717
Click to report rating    10/15/08   5     5     5     5     5   i love camp jewell. plain and simple. There is just so much to do that you can never really choose. I went for sessions 3 & 4 this past summer and met so many nice people and counselors. When you are a 5 year camper like i was you know alot of people and already have friends. I want to go for the entire summer next year and i would recommend this camp to anyone. It is truly great RID: 27056

Click to report rating    2/29/08   5     4     4     4     3   I started at Camp Jewell as a bandit in 2001, started ranch in 2004, and I know how much it has shaped my life. My best friends, who all live hours away, are still great friends of mine, from going to the same camp for 7 years. I didn't go last year, and I sincerely feel like I missed out big time. So many of the counselors are just the warmest, greatest people. Camp will have its low points, but the high points are so, so much more extreme. Camp Jewell has always been there for me. RID: 20794

Click to report rating    12/11/07   1     1     1     1     1   I HATED THIS CAMP! IT SUCKED. I HAD TO GO TO CHAPEL EVERY MORNING WHEN SUPPOSEDLY CHURCH WAS OPTIONAL. I LOVE REAL SPORTS AND THEY DID NOT PROVIDE THAT. STILL THIS CAMP SUCKED. RID: 17892
Click to report rating    12/1/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing. They make sure you have fun no matter what. The culturally diverse staff helps you get a broader outlook on life and a better perspective on other countries. Food is wonderful, staff is so awesome (most of them are in their 20s) and you always remember that summer. You have so many activity choices; Outdoor cooking, archery, mountain boarding, going to the lake, canoeing, hiking, fishing and so much more. They claim to be a Christian camp, but do not worry, go if you are Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, or Atheist. they are so open minded and do not enforce any obscene values that you do not religiously recognize. Cabin rooms are so clean, and you will be crying at closing campfire, because you made so many friends, and so many memories. Great job Camp jewell. RID: 17607
Click to report rating    11/10/07   4     5     5     5     4   I loved camp and learned so much and made new friends. The activities and oppurtunities were great i learned to sail and kayak and canoe. My only complaint tis that not all of my roomates were nice some were mean really. RID: 16957
Click to report rating    11/8/07   5     5     5     5     5   When your younger I have to say the camp is amazing but when you get older I didn't like it that much. I go to the Ranch Camp there and I recomend anyone to go there it it like a family and you will want to come back every year. this was my last year and I am so sad that I didn't start when I was 12 instead of when I was 13. Many people have said that its to christian I have to say that some of the stuff is like you say grace but im Jewish and that doesn't get in the way of me having a great time at camp!!! RID: 16919

Click to report rating    8/2/07   1     1     1     1     1   OMG WORST CAMP EVERRRR. The food was HORRIblE, the activities were boring, and the counslers were weird. Every morning you had to clean your cabin which was like cleaning the toilets and stuff. then you would go to a church type thing that was soooo boring. Then you would go raise the flag which took like a half an hour but it felt like and hour. You would have beakfast, which was almost the same everyday. After that you would go do an office chore where you would like clean the office. OMG everythinhg was sooooooo boring. You has to pick like three activites and you had to keep them for a whole week!! Alot of camps you get to pick new things everyday. Ughh I hateee camp jewell!!!! I went with my school and it was a amazing but the summer camp is COMplEtLEY different. NEVER go to camp jewell! WORSt EXPERiEnCE EVERrRRRR. I actully came a week early because i just couldnt stand it anymore. And if you are jewish you will hate it even more because its a christian based camp. OMG BLEHHH RID: 13511

Click to report rating    6/5/07   5     5     5     5     5   I grew up as a Camp Jewell camper and staff, and my life has been shaped by those experiences. My favorite memories and friendships come from Camp Jewell. Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are still words that I find myself using in my daily choices. There's no doubt that Camp Jewell is the best camp there is! RID: 11554
Click to report rating    6/3/07   3     5     1     2     2   I didn't like it. The activities weren't very interesting, and I couldn't get into the ones that I wanted. The facilities were good though, it just seemed too much like a resort than a summer camp. They also said that church was optional, but it wasn't. RID: 11412
Click to report rating    5/29/07   5     5     5     5     5   Great camp, love it, 4th year going. Fun actavities and games. Counselors are great. Feals like a family! Only complaint is not enough interaction with opposite sex. RID: 11265

5/8/07   5     5     5     5     4   My daughter loves Camp Jewell and will be returning for yet another summer. She adores the counselors and she often speaks of her favorite counselor, Kathie. I have seen real growth in my daughter since attending camp. Camp Jewell has a huge amount of activities for kids to do as well. My daughter loves the mini-farm activity which comes complete with chickens, pigs, llamas, horses, goats, and a whole host of other animals. I feel very safe sending her to Camp Jewell and look forward to sending my second daughter in a few years. RID: 10650
Click to report rating    5/8/07   5     5     5     5     5   The facilities and staff at Camp Jewell are the finest around. These people really care and love the Camp just as much as the Campers do! Camp Jewell isn't just a place - it's a way of life. RID: 10645
Click to report rating    5/4/07   3     5     5     3     4   I was a program counselor at this camp, and from looking at other camps, this one had great facilities (eg, most camps dont have bathrooms in each cabin). I have some great memories, and still hear from some of my campers, and friends from around the world! However, I thought that there was MORE drama w/ the counselors than w/ the campers! It felt like middle school, all the gossip of who is hooking up with whom...and some counselors putting their personal life over being there for their campers. RID: 10467
Click to report rating    4/27/07   5     5     5     5     5   This will be my 9th year at Camp Jewell. I never met people more committed to the camping experience in my life. Anyone who goes there is luckier than they know. RID: 10216
Click to report rating    1/20/07   5     5     5     5     5   A camp where they actually have their act together. We had a terrible experience at Raquette Lake and were hesitant to try camp again. Jewell delivered everything they promised and more. Plus the kids had a great time doing positive things. RID: 7000
Click to report rating    12/17/06   5     5     5     5     5   omg i went there if you were there last year session 4 then its cody!!! this camp kicked ****s!! i loves it more than anything it was awsome yea yea!!! ok yea i loved camp im so popular there too when i went it was the best 2 weeks of my life RID: 6060

Click to report rating    6/14/06   1     1     1     1     1   I went to this camp with mmy school in sixth grade and it was soo much fun and there were great classes. Then I went in the summer and found that it was boring and the classes and the camp sucked. First of all we had these horrible cabins with flaps to cover the screens which were supposed to be windows, secondthe flagpole was so annoying, imen just put up the flag already. Oh and by the way we had to clean our cabin everyday including the toilets and most of the time without a brush, and if we did a good job we got an icepop, im not four. Also we had to go to chapel everyday which was almost like church. Then msot of the counselours were forgn sio they barely spoke English. Also the singing gets old after a while I mean reaally. We sang before like every meal and it was either about talking animals or praising God. It was almost like it was somesort of religious camp. If you donnt want to sing all day and go to church with happy skippy idiots then stay away from this camp. RID: 872
Click to report rating    6/14/06   5     5     5     5     5   The fifth graders in my town take a visit to this camp for 3 days in October. It was so fun! I didn't actually go to the camp during the summer, but it was still fun. We did various activities such as rock climbing, arts and crafts, and more. RID: 870
Click to report rating    5/24/06   5     5     5     5     5   This camp puts Camp Chinqueka to SHAME! The cabins are carpeted, spacious, comfortable, the showers are inside each cabin, and each cabin has a lounge area and a fireplace. The lake is beautiful and always the perfect temperature for swimming in, and the rope swing is a blast. The food is very good, and the possibilities for activites go ON and On...but my personal favorites include basket making, rock climbing, arts and crafts, frisbee golf, comedy improv, drama, guitar, cheerleading, martial arts, sailing, kayaking, and volleyball. Evening activities are sooo much fun and I love how we're split up into villages by age and gender and then we compete against other villages in games like 5-way capture the flag and the Spirit Cup! (go utopians!) So many good memories there. I LOVE CAMP JEWELL! Awhoo! Utopians! That is my heart's desire Awhoo! Utopians! I love it i love it i love it i love it Awhoo! RID: 422
