Click to report rating    8/29/19   1     3     1     1     1   After a fun weekend with her Girl Scout troop at Rawhide Ranch, my daughter insisted she had to go to the sleep away summer camp. She attended summer camp in Aug of 2019 and had a horrible counselor named Levyn. She was forced to eat until she threw up and Levyn used threats to get the girls to comply with her demands instead of making it a fun bonding experience for the girls. She visited the nurse 2-3 times per day and no one from camp notified us. A few visits for a minor scrape or bee sting is understandable - but multiple daily visits with a child complaining of dizziness and nausea is not. She cried at the coordinators office multiple times per day and no one notified us. She also got stuck in a bathroom because the door would not open. The counselor was notified, but no one fixed it. It remained the bathroom you might get stuck inside for the entire week. RID: 52862

9/10/18   5     5     5     5     5   I attended Rawhide Ranch from the ages of 10 -16 then worked there as an adult for several years. Some of the best things about me, I learned at Rawhide. RR is a unique environment that offers so much to campers. Pampering, no. Fluff, no. Plush accommodations, no. Glamour, glitz and electronics, no. What it does offer is the opportunity for kids to learn, grow and have fun in a rustic and whimsical place. Fun, YES. Horses, YES. Farm animals galore, YES. Learning the value and responsibility of caring for animals, YES. SO many friends, SO many games, activities, and lots of tradition. Campers will come away with experiences and life-long memories and friendships they cannot receive anywhere else. I can speak to the quality of the current management and their commitment to maintain the vision that began Rawhide from the beginning. I highly recommend this camp. RID: 52250

Click to report rating    9/7/18   5     5     5     5     5   I went to this camp from 6 to 16. My fondest childhood memories are from my experiences here. This is not a camp for wimps. This is a place where your kids are expected to do chores, take care of animals, ride horses, get dirty and tough it out! So if your kid is ready for an amazing experience living on a ranch for a week, this is the place for them. RID: 52244
Click to report rating    9/5/18   5     5     5     5     5   BEST camp experience EVER! We refer to Rawhide Ranch as a magical place so close to home. Many generations of our kids love this camp and can't wait to go back each year. You get to live a REAL cowboy/girl experience from riding class to chores to capture the flag and a rodeo to top it off. The staff have a heart for kids and it shows. We can't say enough WONDERful things about this gem in Bonsall, CA! YOU MUST SIGN UP TODAY! RID: 52239
Click to report rating    11/2/14   2     3     2     1     2   I went to this camp last summer and it was the worst one i've been too. It felt like i was in school with "classes" and dress codes. I couldn't wear half of my clothes because it "wasn't appropriate" or it didn't have sleeves. My bathing suit even covered my stomach and I had to put a shirt over it. You spend an hour in the morning cleaning at a place at camp (mine was the pony barn) and another hour in the evening. I only got not even a whole hour of riding a day. There was a bunch of tests you can take. I tried getting my driver's licence for the pony cart and I failed miserably. We slept in a tent with wooden floors and bunk beds basically and ours had no electricity. My counselor didn't like me and the staff favors the people who stay for a long time. The only good part is the girls were nice. I made a mistake going here instead of Raintree Ranch. RID: 48120

8/20/13   2     4     4     4     5   I went to Rawhide Ranch for a class field trip. Well, on the first day, the staff was extremely impatient and constantly yelled at us that we were not doing it correctly when many of us had never ridden a horse. It felt that all they ever did was complain as well. A counselor named Natalie who worked in the stockfarm seemed especially kind, and did her job well. My only wish is that they would be more patient with us. Would i go back again? Maybe if the staff checked their attitudes. On another note, the food wasnt quite exceptional, but they had the option of the salad bar, which many of my friends ate instead of the entree. Overall it was a great experience, but sadly i dreaded activities due to the lack of patience from the staff. RID: 45777
Click to report rating    8/20/12   5     4     5     5     4   This camp is absolutely amazing. Every time I go, I hate to leave. I cannot get enough of Rawhide Ranch. They taught me how to ride, vault, and care for all kinds of animals. There are such unique experiences at this camp, and the people there are awesome. Lifelong friends can result from just one week at Rawhide, and most counselors are funny and caring. Different activities leave no time to be bored. Also, campers can work their way up to higher ranks in riding, vaulting, and the stock farm, creating a more challenging and fun environment for those willing to work for it. Of course there are rules, but they are necessary for the safe environment at Rawhide. Everything is so authentic, and I wish I could stay all summer. RID: 42453
Click to report rating    10/28/11   1     1     3     1     2   Beware. This camp regularly makes police reports of child abuse based only only rumor and gossip. Your family could easily be subjected to police attention and investigation only because you spent a lot of money sending your child to this camp RID: 37171
Click to report rating    1/3/09   2     1     4     2     3   Well i thought that Rawhide Ranch was pretty fun, but there were some drawbacks. Such as: sally! THE EVILEST COUNSELOR IN THE WORLD! if you are reading this sally I'm not fond of you. The food was OK, but i thought that more free time would be nice. Overall i would not go back if i had Sally. Click to report rating    7/3/08   5     4     5     4     4   Rawhide Ranch is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun!!! I had a great time there especially the games you do after dinner. The horses are well taken care of and the classes are interesting and awesome. The food was ok but I wish it was a buffet.Everything about Rawhide Ranch is cool and I recommend you go there for the best time ever!! RID: 24558
Click to report rating    4/5/08   1     1     2     1     1   I hate this place! They are so mean and it is so expensive! It is really not worth your money! Go to a camp like raintree ranch, it is 20 times as good and half the price! My friend was on a horse and they didn't tell it didn't like mud so she went in mud and the horse reared and then they told her! HOW EVIL IS THAT?! RID: 21989
Click to report rating    2/14/08   2     2     4     3     2   I had a good time at Rawhide Ranch, however, I found it a very unclean place with too many rules. I went their to get away from school, not be in class all over again! I believe it was WAY to expensive price to go for what the camp offered. I've been three times and I HATE where they make us sleep. The bunks are dirty, rickety, old, and vandalized. I also find the staff rude, especially Ben. The food at Rawhide is awful. For example, the garlic toast nobody ate the first night because it was so nasty was turned into the next day's pizza lunch! Gross! While I was eating, I also saw a huge rat climb up the walls of the dining area. That defiantly spoiled my appetite! Many of the rules at the camp were senseless and unneeded. Kids aren't even allowed to go see the horses except if they have a few minutes a day to ride them or they are picking up their****. I did like the experiences I came away with from Rawhide Ranch, but I probably won't be returning again any time soon. RID: 20281
11/18/07   3     3     3     3     2   The camp claims it is for horse lovers but it is so far from that. You don't get to take care of the horses just shovel their poo and you only ride for 30 min. You aren't allowed to even hang out NEAR the horses or pet them, it's ridiculous! That was the only reason why I wanted to go there, for the horses! The staff is also rude and unhelpful and the sleeping quarters are very poor. One year I had to sleep in the wagons and you can't see at night since there is no electricity and the beds are very rusty and unsanitary. The more updated areas (tepees) are better but they are for the boys. The camp is also much like school and there are ALOT of rules. The upside is that the food is great (very rustic and BBQ day is probably the only day I will eat hamburgers because they are so good) and the end of day games are a blast (Kangaroo court!).  1/6/07   3     2     4     3     3   fun, but a lot of the stuff is oriented towards kids under 11 RID: 6527
Click to report rating    10/30/06   4     5     3     5     4   I worked there for a summer and honestly, it felt like school, the kids are made to sit in "classes" for an entire morning or afternoon. Granted, we tried to make the classes fun but it was still very school like. I've worked at other camps and went to an awesome camp as a child and neither of them use the classroom setting and I personally had more fun both as camper and staff. RID: 4445
Click to report rating    9/13/06   5     5     5     5     5   A perfect choice for new riders and experienced riders alike. Even experienced riders will have a great time at camp. News friends and horses! A perfect summer camp. RID: 3135
Click to report rating    8/24/06   4     4     5     5     5   I love this camp. It's the thing I look forward to most during the summer. Whoever thinks this camp sucks, has no idea what fun is. RID: 2363
