Every night right before the campers go to bed they have something called Devotions. Devotions is when the counselors pick a topic for the kids to discuss usually it's about the five core values and they talk about a wide range of things and the campers really have a chance to talk about anything and it's a place where the kids can feel safe. Another great part about camp is the diversity in the counselors, you can find counselors from all over the world at Camp Silver Beach! I highly recommend CSB! RID: 46707
Click to report rating    6/6/13   5     5     5     5     5   This will be my 4th year back at camp. The counselors are amazing and come from all around the world. They are all trained and certified. The food is lacking if you are a picky eater (which I am) so just bring some granola bars and you'll be set. The cabins aren't 5 stars but it's air conditioned and closed with 2 bathrooms. Plus you won't be spending much time in cabins anyway. The dining hall is a nice place to relax and talk with other cabin mates. They are constantly adding new activities every year this year it's paddle boarding . Rumor has it that they are seriously thinking about a zip line and high ropes. You can choose any activity you want. I am atheist and as of last year the most I've done is sing Johnny apple seed before meals. They are in no way forcing you to do anything you don't want to. The people at camp are like my family. Closing words: the people that don't like CSB just don't like summer camp. RID: 44679
Click to report rating    4/26/13   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is AMAZING!! I went last year and I'm going again this year. My counselors were great, and they didn't baby you like the counselors at previous camps that I have attended. The cristianity wasn't that unforced like others have said- all you do is say (or sing) grace before meals. If you are of a different religion I'm sure that they could let you skip that. The food is great, and all of the activities are so much fun. You can pretty much go to whatever activity that you want. The bay is wonderful! I came home with so many new friends, and I can't wait till I get to go back this year! I am more that satisfied with CSB. I've gone to two other camps in my life, and this one has been the best by far. If you are worried about there it being coed, think again. You do mix with the other gender, but you really dont hang out with them much at all. CSB IS THE PLACE TO BE! RID: 44351

The staff is fun and our daughter has come home with huge smiles from all of the fun new things she has learned, especially sailing. Her friends have all enjoyed their stays as well. We will return again! RID: 36343

7/15/10   5     5     5     5     5   I rated like this b/c it was a really good camp! The skatepark was great, ski school was really fun, the climbing tower was hard but it was fun. The pool was really fun, especially the water slides. The food was great. We had buddies and were allowed to go to any activity of our choice during a 3 hour morning and 3 hour afternoon session. We could earn cards for completing tasks at each activities, and those cards would lead up to earning a dog tag for that activity. The tasks got harder each time. We had lots of opportunities to earn dog tags in different activities b/c there were so many available. Can't wait to go back next year and conquer the most difficult level of the climbing tower! Click to report rating    6/25/10   5     4     5     4     5   This camp is AMAZING. You have a lot of freedom, and the counslers are awesome. Apon arrival, you can get free hotdogs, soda, chips, and snowcones. The christianity is hardly enforced. You just say grace before meals and sing a few songs occasionally. The food is GOOD, I don't know what's wrong with some of these ratings. Especially the hot buns. There is also a salad bar if you're vegetarian and a pretty good drink selection. The activities are fun. There's a large selection, and you walk to them unaccompanied by counslers, so you aren't babied. The pool isn't the most exciting, but what do you expect? They have ample pool toys, two enclosed slides, the HUGE Wet Willie(tm), and a water spray park. Also, the lifeguards are really fun to hang out with. There's lots of pool chairs to sunbathe. The camp may be pricey, but it's seriously worth it. Facilities are clean and the beds are comfortable. It really is a great camp, and you get lots of opportunities to make new friends. I<3 CSB! Click to report rating    5/23/10   4     3     5     3     4   The camp was great. I have only been there once but i would highly recomend it. There were lots of fun activities, the food was okay, and the counsilers were very nice. My favorite part was being able to go off alone with your friends to the different activities RID: 32820
Click to report rating    10/3/09   4     5     5     4     5   Awesome camp. The facilities are amazing and the activities are generally very fun. Most of the counselors are really cool and fun to be around. unfortunately the food kinda sucked but that was really the only problem. RID: 31199
Click to report rating    6/28/09   4     5     5     4     5   I went to CSB for 5 years and it really was an amazing experience! I felt like i could do so many things I was not able to at home, and made friends my fist year that I still write to this day. And as for the counselors, some may be a little grumpy but sometimes you get an amazing counselor that you just love. My summers at this camp were unforgettable from the cookouts and sunset s'mores by the beach, to the waterskiing and banana boating and coming back every year to see those hilarious counselors you remember from the year before. The only thing I would recommend is more freedom for the older campers to hang and do other activities. There was never a summer where a left without shedding some tears! RID: 30264
Click to report rating    6/27/09   4     5     2     2     2   My daughter attended this camp when she was 8. She said it was like YMCA day camp (not a good thing coming from her) but you get to spend the night. She loves to camp, but she didn't ask to go back to this one. RID: 30243
Click to report rating    4/28/09   1     3     2     1     1   Wow, this place sucks. Honestly, it's not worth half of what you pay for it. counselors are "upset, distressed, and really really tired." and just plain rude. they patronize the teens. totally lame. and it's way too christian. ew. Click to report rating    5/5/07   4     4     4     3     3   I really liked Silver Beach the first time I went there, but it wasn't as good the second time around because they got rid of a lot of the fun stuff. If you're under 11 or so, it's great- if not, you feel like you're treated like an infant. All the counselers were awesome, and the cabins were great, too. Climb the Tower- that is the best part- I did it like 5 times every day. Food is, unfortunately, very bad: one example was when they gave us mashed potatoes with barbecue sauce on them. Also go kayaking and waterskiing, and windsurfing if they still have that. RID: 10521
Click to report rating    2/7/07   4     3     4     2     3   it was ok. you were pretty free during activities. but too much christianity. me and my friends (im athiest, my 2 friends who went with me were jewish) were forced to say grace and sing songs about god and etc. RID: 7611
Click to report rating    6/12/06   4     5     4     4     3   YMCA Camp Silver Beach is a wonderful, co-ed residential (overnight) camp. Silver Beach offers campers opportinities that they would not normally face in everyday life. The camp believes in the 'challenge by choice' philosophy, giving the campers the opportinity to try every activity offered- and encouraging them to take advantage of their time at Silver Beach, but never forcing them to do an activity against their will. The facilities are above par, with 2 bathrooms, sinks and airconditioning/heat in all cottages. The staff are fun and friendly- of course they may have an off day, everyone does- but, each staff goes through a rigorous interview and training process. Silver Beach strives to uphold and teach the YMCA values of respect, responisbility, caring, honesty and faith. These values are weaved through all the programs offered at Silver Beach. I would reccommend this camp to any child that wants an unforgettable summer! RID: 800
Click to report rating    5/9/06   1     3     2     1     2   This camp is still trying to "get its act together". It is only about 6 years old. They have great-looking advertising materials (brochure, video, etc.) that make it appear to be a really great place. Well, the counselors aren't exactly what I would call nice, the food is mediocre, the cabins (air-conditioned, carpeted gray cabins with 2 en-suite bathrooms, sinks that work, and wooden bunk beds) house about 10 campers and always 2 counselors. The activities are not that enjoyable, as the counselors are "Upset, distressed, and really really tired!" (a parody of the popular camp song "alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic") It's really hot and there are a ton of bugs. Their evening activities have declined over the years, from fun things like "harry potter night" have turned into dull cookouts, scavenger hunts, etc. A few things about it are fun, but not really. I would not highly recommend this camp. RID: 303
