I was staff, I was great. My father was staff, he was great. I was a camper. How we camper's review ourselves? (1) Jjjjuniors, we're the only camp to adore. (2) We are the Pioneers of Camp Blue Star, we're really super-duper, really really super-duper. (3) Seniors? S E N I O R S, seniors are the very best. (4) Who are we? T A V, the best at Camp Blue Star. (5) CT's: Hey gather around CTs are here & we're victory bound. My fond memories: I've got that Blue Star Spirit all over me , Chapel Mt Pisgah; Uncle Herman & Uncle Harry Popkin,& my Blue Star Famiy, Roger Popkin -when I needed him. Lauren & Seth have big shoes to fill. They get Kindness to the Planet right. "singing campers are happy campers.' Wrote my first lyric there 57 years ago Mastered Senior LIfe Saving (swimming) by age 12 (my high school classmaters weren't even close in skills). My mind still escapes to the Elmore Solomon Chapel where the put monuments to my parents. Blue Star Famiy means something,

I can't imagine a better camp than Blue Star! It is my home away from home and I met my best friend here. If you want to make the memories of a lifetime, you should definitely go to Camp Blue Star!

2020 will be my 6th year at Blue Star. I can’t imagine a better place. Blue Star teaches it’s campers how to create long lasting bonds, care for the planet, appreciate Judaism, and so much more. The staff (for the most part) are so kind and caring. My counselors have always been so fun and easy to talk to, as well as the unit leaders. They will make sure all of your problems are solved. I’ve met so many amazing people there and I’m glad I can call it my forever home.

I was psychologically abused by the other kids while I attended this camp. Counselors did not care. Director did not care. Desperate to call home, desperate to leave, trapped together with my bullies and no adults who cared enough to help or even seem interested. The fact that my parents paid for this experience, and the experience itself, haunt me to this day. Spend the summer with your children and save some money if you care about them.

The facilities and activities were fairly standard. What was definitely lacking was supervision and attitude on the part of the counselors and directors. My then 10-year-old daughter was tortured on a daily basis by the other girls in her cabin and I did not find out about any of it until four weeks later when she got home. The counselors paid no attention to the bullying. All the other 10-year-old girls in her cabin wanted to talk about was sex, and when my daughter did not want to participate in that conversation, they told her she was a piece of sh*t. When I brought this to the attention of the director at the end of the summer, she told me she didn’t know if she should apologize to me or tell me “you’re welcome” for having her camp educate my 10 year old daughter about sex. I could not imagine a more callous or inappropriate response to the parent of a child that had been tortured by bullying.

I was a camper at blue star for ten years and staff for 4. I loved every second of it, and next year I will be sending my oldest daughter there for the summer. I absolutely adore the directors, and can't wait for my daughter to experience the magic at camp. It is so thrilling to think that my daughter is spending the summer at my most favorite place ever!!!

I strongly regret sending my child to this camp. The counselors were terrible. My child was 8 yrs old and they ignored a severe case of homesickness - tears and begging to call home. The administrative staff ignored my child as well and one even went so far as to say they don't have phone. When I found out what had happened, I called the camp administration about this several times and their response was minimal and of course, there was no follow up. They really only care about money. If you want selfish, insensitive 19 year olds caring for your children, then this is the camp for you! Thank you, Camp Blue Star for traumatizing my child and creating problems for our family.

When we pushed to know more about our daughter's horrid summer, the director admitted that she had been accidentally "overlooked." This, when I had been on the phone with the office regularly for help. I can only imagine what happens when the parents aren't checking in. I have since learned from others that if you begin this camp at a very young age (7), your camper will have a better experience. If your child goes for the first time at age 12 as ours did, cabin friendships have already been established and the camp pays absolutely NO attention to teaching the established campers to welcome a new person. An "oh well" attitude if your child is isolated. The counselor was an affected, snooty teenager and after hearing about her behavior, I regret tipping her. That "Bluestar Magic" is indeed wonderful...it's just a shame that it is not offered to everyone. We have since moved on to another camp that is fantastic.

As a parent, I cannot say enough great things about this camp. The director was fantastic helping my child deal with some adjustment issues. The kids and other families are very down to earth. I have watched my kids' confidence and sense of self soar from this experience. We travel from the West and they help with all of the logistics like pros. After sending my kids to a different camp, I feel like this camp is second to none. Blue Star is first class in every sense of the word!

This camp is a very magical place. Your child will make bonds for life and they will come home raving about how amazing camp was. This is definitely the place to be during the summer.

This camp was absolutely a nightmare. The counselors and children are concieted and immature. The director are complete aholes who antagonize you as the bad guy in a small problem. They are unprofessional and rude. This camp is a scam and if you're dumb enough like I was to fall for it, you will regret it.

I wasted five summers at this stagnating pit. Learned nothing, did nothing, formed very shallow friendships that I chose to believe were profound at the time. Learned dirty words and how to straighten my hair. Great for shallow kids who lack interests and ambition. Our main activity was gossiping and alternately being made fun of and making fun of others. The counselors are taller versions of the stupider campers who left camp every night to get **** at a trashy local bar. In my later summers (before eighth and ninth grade) we would wait up at night for our counselors to come back stumbling **** and tell us about their exploits. Terrible role models with no sense of boundaries. I remember one counselor handing her eleven year old camper a water bottle and joking "show me how you give a ****." That's all you need to know about Blue Star Camps.

This camp was not the right place for me. I am an outdoorsy type. The girls here were interested in boys mostly. I was the only one to sign up for an elective hike in my cabin and I looked forward to mountain biking but the girls could not bike- also, the girls are materialistic and curse a lot. not for me

Blue Star is home to me. I am a second generation camper who started when I was 7 years old and stayed for the next 8 summers. As soon as I was old enough, I applied to work there. 6 summers later, I still work there. The staff goes through a selective hiring process and then extensive training every summer before the campers arrive. Even though it is a large camp, it feels small as campers are programed with other campers their age and gender and engage in age appropriate activities. Blue Star is where I first identified with my Jewish identity and became proud of who I was. Additionally, it provided me with self confidence that I would have gotten anywhere else. Blue Star is an amazing place that I see first hand change the lives of campers for the better every summer. I cannot recommend this camp enough to prospective families.

Rodger Popkin and the whole family are the rudest people ever. They do not treat the counselors fair at all.You should never work there cause if the campers don't like you your gone. Snotty kids to work with and horrible unit leaders. The camp is run by rude people they do not know how to treat the counselors with respect. I do not reccomend anyone to send there kids to this camp or to work at this camp.. Stay away from this camp awful people.

Blue Star Camps is truly a magical place where campers and staff come together to create a spectacular summer. I was both a camper and a staff member at this excellent camp for jewish kids and I have treasured every second of my time spent at Blue Star. As a younger camper I loved all the friends I made, the activities that I was able to do (rock climbing, mountain biking, archery, kayaking, water skiing, color war, and so much more). Once I was an older camper I began to really appreciate the the friendships that I had made over the years and the magic behind the camp that kept me coming year after year. In my transition to a counselor, I came to realize that the magic at blue star was rooted in the love of everyone there. As a staff member I formed such close bonds with my campers and fellow staffers, as well as helping to create these same bonds between the campers. It was an unforgettable and incredible experience and I realized how lucky I was to be able to be a camper there all t

Takes too many kids. Claims two counselors to a bunk, but this does not happen. Counselors have no training. Get locked out of activities because over enrolled. Director is not professional at all. When my child was there one girl in her bunk needed to be sent home tormented the other girls for four weeks and he said "we just dropped the ball on this one it happens" Did not notify us that one of my childrens counselors went home after the first three days. I would never send my children back.

Highest praises for Blue Star Camps! Blue Star, a Jewish family owned and run camp is NC, has a rich tradition and history turning of childrens dreams into reality. I was a camper, counselor, and now parent at BSC and all experiences were wonderful. The staff at Blue Star is extremely well trained and attentive. They offer a wide range of activities including (but not limited to): tennis, horseback, lakefront, rock climbing, ropes course, mountain biking, sports, arts & crafts, and even martial arts. The children are encouraged to try new things in a positive, loving environment. Shabbat services are a beautiful experience, they also provide kosher meals, and incorporate Judaism through activities, prayers, and music. Blue Star is definitely any girl or boy's idea of paradise, send your children and you won't be disappointed. They constantly work to involve parents through web pictures, phone calls and mail. A great experience for you and your children from this loving summer family.
