Click to report rating    8/22/13   5     5     5     5     5   The facilities have really been upgraded in the last 6 or 7 years. New, log cabins, new bathrooms and showers. This place is beautiful. My kids go to summer camp, but our whole family would be comfortable there for family camp or church retreats. RID: 45798

Click to report rating    6/3/08   5     5     5     5     5   As a staff member from 2003-2007 I feel like this camp has finally found a solid director and is on its way up from some of the rocky summers it had earlier in the decade with its previous directors. The current director is experienced, safety oriented and fun. She has also brought in and secured a solid, experienced core of staff memebers. Last summer was the best of the four summers I have seen and with the amazing variety of activities for younger and older campers this camp would provide an amazing, safe and diverse camp experience for any age camper. Being on a camp career path and seeing a number of different camps I feel pretty confident in the ratings I give to South Mountain YMCA. RID: 23548
Click to report rating    3/28/08   5     5     5     5     5   This a is a great camp. I visited the camp last summer to see it in action and experience the atmosphere, prior to recommending it to friends. The programs, facilities, staff and environment are excellent for all ages. I am particularly impressed by the dedication of the permanent staff who shared their plans for the upcoming season. Their ongoing desire to provide the most fun, safe and positive experience for the young people in their care has totally impressed me. I find it difficult to understand the negative comment or two that have been posted. It is certainly NOT the case that this camp is all about the money, since it is a None Profit organization. I also saw children taking swimming lessons during my visit last summer. The camp website gives a great overview of what the camp is all about. I would highly recommend the camp to anyone interested in giving their child the opportunity to experience a varied & wholesome program in the outdoor setting. RID: 21694

Click to report rating    2/5/08   4     4     5     5     4   I have spent numerous years at this camp, and it has definitely had its ups and downs. The staff is always really awesome, they hire people from many different countries (Australia, South Africa, Spain, New Zealand... just to name a few), and this gives the campers a great experience. Also, because of the camp being located on a beautiful 500 acres on top of a mountain, the camp is just beautiful. Also, the activities are awesome. There are activities that appeal to all campers, from shooting sports to rock climbing and high ropes to horseback riding to arts and crafts. It is safe, and the counselors really care. RID: 19902
Click to report rating    1/31/08   4     5     4     4     4   I will always have amazing memories of this camp. The location is amazing 500+ acres of land. The facilities are updated with new cabins and new shower/bathroom areas. The staff are energetic and chosen very well. I attended this camp from the summer of 2001-2006. My first few years were absolutly amazing the staff were young and up-beat but as the years went on and I became older and then moving onto working as a staff member I came to realize that the management was the true issue not the people employed to work with the campers. The camp has tryed to keep up with the competition but by doing this has gotten rid of the aspect of the camp that attracted the over 70 years of campers. It was and still is a magical place, any child would love to spend time here if they enjoy the outdoors and nature. The more campers the better. You make life-long friends and meet people from all over the globe. I definitely have many fond memories, and plan on sending my children in the future. RID: 19657
Click to report rating    1/13/08   4     3     5     4     4   I started going when I was going into 5th grade. That summer was the 1st summer that I went to a sleep away camp. I got homesick. But the counsalers chered me up. The activities were awesome. I went back later that summer and I was in the older group of girls. I had learned that being in the younger group was better. Then I went back the next summer. I had the best combination of counsalers. And they only had 2 groups of girls and 2 groups of boys instead of 3 each. My favorite summer was the second, but I was only able to stay 1 week instead of 2 or more. They have many different activites. They have mountain boarding, arts and crafts, Outdoor Living Skills. And lots of others. At the beginning of each week you pick your activities for the week. There is also evenig activites after dinner. They range from a game to a dance. The food is good also. At breakfest they have a cereal bar, and that days hot food. At lunch and dinner they have salad bars. This camp is awesome! RID: 18898
Click to report rating    6/15/07   4     3     3     3     4   No swimming instruction. Reasonable value for the money. Two week intervals with only limited attendance across intervals RID: 12041
Click to report rating    5/12/06   1     4     2     1     1   Sadly, this once fantastic organization is now in total chaos. Many alumni doubt it can be saved. RID: 317
