Click to report rating    8/14/21   1     1     1     1     1   Where do I begin. I broke my nose while at the camp when I was 12/13, and was instructed by staff to NOT TELL MY PARENTS (the folks were never told). The middle aged camp counsellor I had rounded up the boys in his cabin first night and went on a bizarre diatribe about how he's a 40 something year old virgin and that its 'gods plan for him', and then a few days later we found his stash of porn magazines in the cabin. I obviously can't formally accuse anyone of this particular thing, but a camper with behavioral issues was often pulled for nighttime one on one walks and private time with one senior staff member, and they were always very cryptic about what they did during this time. Now that I'm an adult, I piece together signs that this person was being sexually groomed by the staff member. What else? Besides uncomfortable religious indoctrination and mismanaged staffing, my experience here bordered on straight up neglect and danger. RID: 53448

Click to report rating    10/31/13   5     5     5     5     5   I have been attending NBB since I was 7 years old. NBB is more than a camp, its a home away from home. As a staff member I am able to see what different cabin dynamics are like, I can I assure any family, that new campers (whether or not they know people attending NBB) will find a friend group that they gladly fit be it in their cabin of not. As a staff member, we work tirelessly to ensure that our campers have friends (which by the end of the summer turn into brothers and sisters) inside the cabin and outside. NBB is a home and the forest/lake environment adds creative twists to our programming which fulfils the campers days from start to finish. Anyone who ever had the chance to go to NBB had the chance to experience what it's like knows that NBB is more than a camp, its a home. RID: 46214
Click to report rating    10/17/13   5     5     5     5     5   This is one of the finest camps in Ontario. The new Directors are incredible! The staff are so nice and the kids are down to earth. There is no other camp to look at. If you want excellent child care, welcoming and inviting children and incredible facilities...this is the place to go!! CAMP NORTHLAND ROCKS!!! RID: 46141

1/29/13   5     5     5     5     5   Northland is one of the best, fun, and loving places in the entire world. I can truely say that it is my home away from home. The staff are exceptional and offer so many ideas, games, and a family environment to the campers. I do not think i could ask for a better, safer, more fun enviornment for my children then at Camp Northland B'nai Brith. RID: 43524

Click to report rating    7/18/12   4     4     5     5     5   I went last year for the second month. This is AN AMAZING CAMP. You should go with a friend though, I recommend going second month because first month has a reputation of having bratty kids and them all being backstabbers. The food is great. The people in second month are welcoming and all really nice if you go it's good to be outgoing because quiet kids get picked on all those things about having to be popular are wrong because I am a self-proclaimed nerd and I love NBB RID: 41777

Click to report rating    2/1/08   5     2     3     4     3   It was really exiting the fist year. I new tons of people who go there they love it. The food was good. my counselors were nice so were the kids in my cabin. Some of the kids were total Sh**ts they were so mean. Especially the girls. Only go if u know someone if not dont NBB kids dont welcome first years. Overall it was an ok camp but it had its cons. RID: 19731
Click to report rating    1/8/08   1     3     2     3     3   The camp is okay its self although as a staff member i realized that the girl staff are very rude and are mean to one another. They tend to backstab and put one another down. RID: 18742
Click to report rating    12/31/07   3     5     4     5     5   i went last year ('07) and i had a great time but seriously, if ur a wimp or dont have cool friends who go there, DO NOT GO. i had this fat kid in my cabin that EVERYBODY picked on (including younger kids). He had a horrible time. they have awesome councillors (i happened to get some s**t ones but w/e.). the only prob with the activities wuz that u dont do a lot of land sports until like the last few days of camp. another tip... SENOIR SHIFT IS WAY BETTER THAN JUNIOR SHIFT. senoir shift is coming out of grade 7 and up. u get to stay out later, wake up later, and u dont have to take instructional swim (except 4 the first year). OVERALL IT WUZ SO MUCH FUN AND IM SAD THAT I CANT GO THIS YEAR RID: 18472

Click to report rating    12/5/07   2     2     5     2     2   i went there for 1 month, nice experience, liked the waterfront, nice spirit stuff, the food was actually good, if you don't overeat, BUT if you aren't categorized as 'cool'...do not go...unless you go wit a friend. the cabins are a bit old, would have been better with easier accessible electricity...and the cell phone coverage is not good, though satellite phones work well bec. it is really open...i think i only wrote like 1 letter bec. of that.....and it was to send 'something' light home. RID: 17731
Click to report rating    6/4/07   3     5     5     5     5   Northland is awesome but the counclers can be ****'s sometimes. It is my 6th year as a camper. I LOVE NBB! AND IT IS MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME FOREVER! NBB OWNS AND ITS BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER CAMPS!!! RID: 11486
Click to report rating    4/16/07   2     3     5     2     3   Its on ok camp if your not a wimp and the staff sorta suck but w.e the only problem with facilities is the 30min wait for showers and your J.C doesnt really care about you other than that its ok... RID: 9772

Click to report rating    10/26/06   4     4     4     3     5   I'm a 9th year Northlander. If your new you will have more problems relating to people. More "wimpy" kids may feel uncomfortable with some of the stuff they get exposed to. The activies are repetative and often made up just to fill time (sitting in the field). They have great waterfront specialities and land sports including a rock wall and zipline. No one is forced to do anything against their will and most staff care and interact well with the campers. The camp is very staff oriented but during the day the kids are our first priority. Northland is a reform Jewish camp. We say a prayer before all meals, on the sabbath and we have a judaica program. Typically the first month campers are from the more "well-off" group and their attitude is a bit different. The difference between the campers that attend first/second session is definetly visible. Violence, drugs, alcohol and misconduct are not tollerated and the camp director will not permit it. RID: 4338
Click to report rating    10/22/06   3     3     2     3     4   I went to this camp for one LTP month. As mentioned, you definitely have to end up in the right cabin with the right people, and you definitely have to know people before you go up for your first time. Activities are definitely repetitive, but good if you like waterfront stuff, and good if you prefer not to have an action-packed day. In LTP year, they only schedule you for 3-4 periods out of 6, so there are a lot of slack periods. I prefer being kept busy all day, so that's the main concern here. RID: 4223
Click to report rating    9/28/06   3     4     4     3     3   As a camper and a J.C. I can say that this is a decent camp as long as you are outgoing. If you go there not knowing anyone you will have some troubles as they are not the most welcoming to out siders. Much of the staff are just there to party. July is a much better month to go as August seems to have a high enrollment of troubled kids/teens. I don't doubt that this place is being negatively effected by drugs. RID: 3582
