I recently worked there and had a disappointing experience. Unfortunately, I was subjected to unprofessional behavior from some staff members, which made my time at the camp unpleasant. On one occasion, I was yelled at in an unacceptable manner, and while the staff member later apologized, it was clear that their behavior was not justified.
I also felt that the camp favored certain individuals, which created an unfair environment. Additionally, the pay was not sufficient, considering the workload and expectations.
When I expressed my desire to leave early due to personal and career commitments, the owners response was unhelpful and dismissive. As someone with responsibilities outside of camp, I believe it's essential for staff to be understanding and supportive. I however am soo thankful for the friendships I made and the good parts of my experience!
Overall, I would not recommend this camp to others due to the unprofessional behavior and lack of support for staf

Quite an untenable experience at Camp Mataponi. We were getting letters from our daughter that said she was getting bullied by others in her bunk. We asked to meet with Dan and Marcy the night before visiting day and asked what could be done, they suggested that she go home - which of course is not the right answer when someone is the victim. The next morning on the drive to visiting day, Marcy called and told us to pack her up without a good explanation - only that it would be better for everyone. To this day I am still shocked that when we complained that other girls were being mean to our daughter, the solution was to send our daughter home.

Camp Mataponi is my second home!!! I love getting to see all my greenflames!!! Then after camp we are always texting and calling!!! My bunk mates are like my sisters and Marcy and Dan are the best!! My sister hated her bunk and they are helping her move into a new one with her good friends!!! The food and staff are the best and the activitys are amazing!!! When I was having a rough summer my counclers made me feel better and we had bunk talks to talk about our feelings. I have no words anymore because camp is just so so so so so amazing and I couldn't imagine another summer not at my second home!!!

I attended Camp Mataponi (1967-1972) when the Kessler's owned it, and although I was a terrible camper, as an adult I look back on my time at Camp Mataponi with the fondest memories. I learned so much- art, dance, theater, music, archery, horseback riding, skiing, swimming, camping, sailing, canoeing, fencing, volleyball, water skiing, cleaning, serving, participation, self responsibility and self respect, group dynamics and getting along with others, religion, and so much more. It sounds like the current owners have kept with that tradition, at least I hope they have.

Iam a former counselor at mataponi and I only have positive things to say about my summer.I had the most incredible experience and recommend this camp to any family that has girls. Mataponi provides the most amazing experience for young girls; I would do anything to go back in time and go here as a child. Mataponi is kind and sensitive to camper and counselor needs. The owners, Marcy and Dan are amazing!They are hands on owners who live and breath camp! Not only are the facilities great but the camp itself is beautiful and breathtaking. The owners are down to earth and set a down to earth positive tone for the camp and the girls and staff who are there. Your daughter wil have the best experiences here! The memories that these girls make are unforgettable along with the friendships that last a lifetime. Mataponi not only provides fun activities and events every day but the girls get to grow and be themselves at mataponi.This camp has infinite benefits!

The worst summer experience of my life! It is the right camp if you are not intelligent, jappy, non-athletic, unmotivated and don't care that you are wasting your parents money. Marcy and Dan don't care about their campers...only their parents money. My friend tried to post an honest review like this and it was removed. I am convinced that Marcy and her staff have posted many of the positive reviews I saw...there is no other explanation! The Isdaners are in the wrong business! Don't go here and support their greed!

Best camp for girls in the country! Thanks to Mataponi summers, I have a daughter who is confident, independent, happy and ready to take on the adult world. Wise and caring directors who do whatever it takes for each girl to succeed. Phenomenal staff, creative programming, fabulous facilities. Worth every penny. Camp Mataponi has had a great influence on my daughter than private school. I am an extremely happy parent, and know many others who are as well. You can't go wrong with Camp Mataponi. It's the greatest opportunity you can give you daughter!

My daughter didn't start at Mataponi until she was 11. I was obviously nervous to see how she would be accepted by the girls in her bunk, as they had already been together for a few summers. The first week was tough, and we dealt with some homesickness. Luckily for me, the constant communication from either Marcy (one of the directors), or the Unit Leader in charge of my daughters age group kept me from climbing the walls. From that point on she never looked back, and not a day passes when she is not in contact with her "camp friends". Fast foward five years, and I have to give Mataponi some of the credit for the confident, independent, and mature young woman my daughter is today. She is already counting the days until summer 2013, when she can return as Junior Counselor. If you are looking for a camp with great facilities, a genuinely caring environment, and a home away from home for your daughter.....Mataponi is your place!

My daughter has attended Camp Mataponi for the past 3 summers, and has loved every minute of it! She first started camp when she was eight years old, at first I was a little hesitant to send her away at such a young age, but the owners, Dan and Marcy were very professional and understanding. Their years of experience in the camping industry and attitudes definitely rub off on their staff, I found all the staff (who are mostly American college students) to be very friendly, mature and compassionate. Overall I love their philosophy of teaching the campers, “that you don’t have to be the best, just try your best”. My daughter has made friendships that will last with her the rest of her life, and I will be recommending Mataponi, Dan and Marcy to all my friends!

I attended Mataponi for 5 summers as a camper and then joined the Mataponi family for 4 more summers as staff. Honestly, I have no words. This camp is the place where I met the girls who have changed my life and shaped me into who I am today. I know that these friends will stick by me for the rest of my life. Additionally, as staff, I learned responsibility and what it means to put the needs of someone else before yourself. I have had four wonderful bunks of girls and I have learned so much from them. This is my first summer where I have been forced to join the "real world" and I miss Mataponi every day. I still write my girls and I get letters almost every day from them filling me in on everything. Mataponi is something I know I will carry with me for the rest of my life. As our alma mater states, "let there be no goodbyes, for the thought of you never dies, we'll return to you by and by, to the camp we love MATAPONI."

Camp Mataponi is a wonderful place for my girls to spend seven weeks of their summer. I feel completely comfortable and confident in the camp to let go of my babies and let them return Mataponi every summer. The staff there is wonderful, always smiling and respectful. Whenever I come to camp a staff member instantly greets us and escorts us to the office. They make you feel very welcomed at Mataponi. My girls always rave about their counselors. When we visit camp the bonds they form with the girls are obvious and at the end of the summer my girls don't want to part from their counselors. The owners of the camp Dan and Marcy are equally as wonderful and pleasant as the staff. Their involvement with the campers and interest in each individual girl is why I wouldn't send my girls anywhere else. Marcy loves to go sailing with the girls and Dan goes up to athletics to help coach games. Being the astounding pair they are I am not surprised at why we love Camp Mataponi.

Mataponi is the most amazing place in the whole world. you could never ever ever spend 7 summers of your life at a place better then this. my bunk was amazing this summer and i loved every minute of it! When someone in my bunk was mean to me, my counselors would open up and would let you talk to them. The bathrooms in our bunks are nice and theres febreeze in every single bathroom so it doesnt smell bad! the activites are great! from athletics, ceramics, ropes, water skiiing, anything you can imagine, i was never ever ever bored in my whole 7 weeks there. the attention they give you is really nice and they never are mean to you. the directors dont favor their daughters. over the years they have changed some things. now they let you keep your candy as long as about a week and a half. This camp means the whole world to me. I made amazing friends that will alst a lifetime, tried new things, and cherished every second. that's why mataponi is the right camp for you! see you next summer!!!<3

I went to this camp for 3 summers. This summer i am not going there!!! i am SO happy. I love my friends there but the camp is not for me (gladly) the sports instruction there is horrific, and their swimming staff pushes you in the water so that you get hypothermia. they also let the 15 year old girls run the camp by letting them stay up all night and babysit the kids until there counselors come back from staff meetings. I can't count how many staff have been fired from coming back drunk after their nights out. they also spoil you! They also have TERRIBLE judgment of people. they have NO hot wanter and they don't care. the owners favor their daughters and they give you 10 minutes to talk to your parents 2 times a summer. and after visiting day they make get right up and practice a song to distract you. it doesn't ever work. and they only give you 2 days to finish all the candy that your parents send you. Overall it is a bad camp. If you have any judgement you won't go there!

have you ever heard the word jap? well thats what this camp is all about. people who go there only think about themselves and they dont care about anyone. the facilities are always covered in geese**** and the food. 1 word. SUCKS. this is why i switched to a new camp, Tripp Lake. everything is normal there and it is not jappy at all/

i worked at mataponi last summer and could not fault it. the girls become a close knit family, regardless of age, and they really love each other. it's not uncommon to see a 14 year old girl walking a 10 year old to her activity hand in hand, enjoying each other's company. the staff are fantastic. theyre all great people that are really experienced in their program areas, and love teaching what they're teaching. my unit leader was incredible...she was always there if i needed her to help me with an issue in my bunk, or just to sit and talk to me. the special events and spirit are unmatched by anything i've seen. the excitement displayed by the girls is truly incredible...they really do cherish every moment they spend together! mataponi exceeded my expectations in every way!! i'm definitely heading back to maine again!

The best camp on earth. I have met the most AMAZING people at mataponi. The people are like no other. My friends from camp are people that you will never meet anywhere else. The land is beautiful, the activities are amazing, the counselors are awesome, and the owners are so kind and considerate. Mataponi is truly the best camp. Mataponi is like no other experience other.

I was a counselor at Mataponi in 2007, and had the best summer of my life! The kids were awesome, the other staff was incredible, the camp itself was gorgeous...it was just such a great experience. The directors were great, and my unit leader and activity head were so helpful, and great to work for. The girls in my bunk became "my girls" and I love them all dearly! I will definitely be back...

Great Camp! My girls count the days until they return each summer. I have had only positive experiences with everyone at Mataponi. From the owners, Marcy and Dan, to their Unit Leaders (all have been fantastic)...the staff at Mataponi are world-class and it shows! My daughters have made wonderful friends, we could not be happier!!

My daughter loved this camp. At home she has trouble with making new friends and socializing. At camp mataponi they let her in and she felt at home as soon as she got there. The staff was incredible adn made sure that she was happy and was having a good time. Dan and Marcy kept me updated and were kind of like a second mom to my daughter. As soon as you walk into this camp you can feel the warmth that the campers bring to the camp. You walk around and there is not one girl without a smile on her face. The memories that my duaghter has made will last a lifetime. This camp is the camp that me and my daughter have been hoping to find. It is too good to be true. Definitly send your child here if you want them to have an amazing summer.

OMG. I love this camp soo much its amazing. I met so many unbelieveable people at Mataponi. My best friends for life are from mataponi. I dont know what I would have done if i have never came to mataponi. Seriously, if I have never gone to mataponi, I really wouldnt be the person I am now. I love this place with all my heart. The activities, conselors, food, sports, and most of all, PEOPLE are amazingg! I love every single thing about mataponi you dont even understand. Mataponi is who I am today, and I live 10 4 2. Bunk 12 '07 is amazing, us 12 forever. I LOVE YOU ALL AND MATAPONI!! If you dont know what camp to go to, seriously come to Mataponi its the best place on earth. Believe me.<33

OMG Camp Mataponi is life. There are no words to describe it! For the whole summer u get to be with ur greem flames. It has every single activaty that u can imagine. Mataponi is on a the second largest lake in maine and the lakes half the fun. The most exciting thing at camp is Jambo cuz its so thrilling and theres nothing to dislike about it. Every girl that goes to Mataponi becomes addicted to camp. The best part about camp is that u meet people from out of the US or that live far away from u. The experience is undescribable. It's the best place in the world and everyone is so nice. Bunk 12 is forever and inter A's 07 were amazing cant wait till next summer Inter B's 08 will rock. Cant wait till monti and 100th year of Mataponi wen were Senior's. Live Love Camp Mataponi!!

My sister and I went here for one summer. She fell off a horse, ending up at the hospital and Marcy did not feel it was necessary to call our parents. The counselors favored some girls over others. Marcy and Dan allowed some select parents to come and see their children the day before visiting day. Staff was okay with us sitting in our bunks all day.

Is it possible to love anything more? Because I don't think soo... I plan on owning a camp thanks to mataponi. I know who I am thanks to mataponi. I had the best eight summers of my life thanks to Mataponi. MATAPONI IS THE MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE YOU WILL EVER HAVE. I don't know how to put it any plainer then that.

I went to mataponi for 6 summers and totally loved it. I formed the closest friends I will ever have in my life, and totally fell in love with it. Now whenever I sing the camp songs, see pictures, I still start to cry. Mataponi provided me with the best 6 summers of my life.
