Click to report rating    5/5/20   5     5     5     5     5   I love this camp and have made many good friends here! It's like my home away from home. Click to report rating    12/23/19   1     3     5     1     3   Child attended 7 years. It was wonderful in elementary, but at middle school age bro culture, hazing, favoritism and ineffective staff spoiled the experience. Frankly, my child was heart broken bc this camp had become a foundational part of his life to that point. Situations were not handled well by upper administration. Jock-types and bullies ran the roost and top administrators turned a blind eye and thereby were complicit. Disappointing. RID: 53072

5/3/18   5     5     5     5     5   Bye far the best summer camp you will ever go to. You will make life long friends. The food is amazing and they have over 20 vegetarian and vegan options as well as gluten free options. The activities are amazing you will never get bored her at clh. There are 10 activities a day and you get to try every single one of them before you leave. The counselors are amazing and truly do care about you. There are THOUSANDS of traditions here. As soon as you think you know all of them you find out about another one. Everything from the blob to Church Mountain and chow hall it’s all extremely fun and all ages will love it. Here they don’t force religion down your throat they simply teach you how to be a kind person. I look forward to clh from the day it’s over all the way to the day I leave for camp the next year. Everybody is somebody at camp longhorn. Here you can be yourself and know one is going to bully you. If you want to have a great summer then come to clh -ATTAWAYTOGO!!! RID: 51806

3/22/17   5     5     5     5     5   This upcoming summer will be my 9th summer at this heaven on earth. Camp Longhorn is a place where you create unforgettable friendships and have some of the best memories of your life. Camp is a paradise that doesn't have technology (which is a great break.) Not having technology and any way to the outside world (minus letters) has to be one of my favorite things about camp. It makes you feel disconnected and you have no worries. Camp Longhorn is truly my second home and I can't even imagine my summers without it. RID: 50559

2/24/16   5     5     5     5     5   I have attended this camp for 8 years and am about to go into my final year as a camper. I plan on being a counselor through college. this camp is one of the biggest parts of my life. It really is heaven on earth and I miss it everyday I'm not there. I have made some friends there that will last a lifetime. Camp really helped me through growing up and figuring out who I am. I could not imagine the person I would be today without Camp Longhorn. These comments talking about hazing and such are from people who came in late or don't really understand the Camp Longhorn spirit. Camp isn't for everybody, but if you have a child I would send them here as soon as possible. It will really change their lives. Everyone I know who goes here can't stop talking about, and I know that everyone will say that their camp is the best camp in the world, but I can say without a doubt that there is something very special about this camp that I have failed to see anywhere else, and I will never forget it.  5/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Longhorn truly is heaven on Earth. I attended as a camper for 9 years and have returned as a counselor for 3. Camp is a family, a really close-knit, fun-loving community. The Camp Longhorn motto, "everybody is somebody at Camp Longhorn", is evident in the treatment of both staff and campers. Campers are expected to be a friend and to do their fair share in the cabin. As a camper, I learned to try new things and to have a positive attitude. LIttle things like making my bunk, keeping my area clean, and remembering to wear my hat to daily activities taught me to be independent and dependable. As a counselor my goal is to give campers the same great experience I had. I am so thankful my parents sent me here. The life lessons I learned and self confidence I gained are invaluable. RID: 44507

7/19/12   3     4     5     1     2   Three of my boys attended this camp. They loved it, but when I needed to contact my youngest, it took 24 hours to get a response. The Camp Director was defensive and hostile to my concern. Clearly parent communications and transparency are not values of this camp. For $3,500, you deserve a phone call and some courtesy.  12/8/11   5     5     5     5     5   to the people who say that the camp has 'hazing issues' that's part of the fun of that year. Everybody who goes to camp grows up seeing the marines and marinas and respect them, wanting to be them. I was a marina and i can say from experience that as long as you don't take it seriously, its really fun and very humbling. girls get embarrassed and things like that but its all in good fun. If the camper has a serious problem with the way they are being treated it is actually advised that you talk to the camp director. However, I go to Inks so I cannot speak for Indian. Camp Longhorn had been the greatest experience of my life. I have met friends that i will never in my life forget. I plan on attending college with several of them. I have gone since the age of 7 and am now 16 and this is my last year. I don't know how i am going live without CLH. My camp friends and i still send each other pictures and talk almost everyday. The time there is limited time there but the memories are forever RID: 37480

8/15/11   5     5     5     5     5   My family has been going to Camp Longhorn for a very long time, and I must say that it gets better every year. Being a camper, I can tell you from a child's point of view. It is packed full of tradition. Church Mountain is my favorite part. It really connects you with your cabin-mates and camp, too. Every year my counselors make camp very memorable. I have a great bond with each of them by the end of the term. The activities are endless. They all teach you something new. There are many water activities such as: Swimbay, Lagoon, Trolly, Blob(my favorite), Free Swim, and more. There are also land activities such as: Trampoline, Pistols, Hoss(horseback riding), Ball Games, and more. The cabins are very traditional, but have their own style. Overall, Camp Longhorn really is "heaven on earth". I guarantee your child will have an amazing time. RID: 36732
Click to report rating    7/8/11   5     5     5     5     5   I personally LOVE Camp Longhorn! I'm about to leave for my 8th yr there and I couldn't be more excited. The counselors are fantastic and even though there's hundreds of kids you still get one on one attention. The friends you make are some of the best friends you'll ever have and even if you only see them once a yr you ca come back and feel like nothing's changed, the activities are unique to the camp and more fun than pretty much anything you'll experience. The food is fantastic same as the whole camp. And the lessons you learn there truly do stick with you. I highly recommend this camp to kids and parents :D RID: 36313

Click to report rating    6/7/11   4     2     2     3     1   After being a camper for Two years, I decided I didn't like it. The consumers were on the most part ok- but some mean ones too. I was told going in that i didn't have to do anything that I didn't want too, that wasn't so true. I was arshly pressured and pressured and even forced into doing somethings. Their were water snakes, and catfish in the lake -which would come up to touch you. I wouldn't reccomeqnd this camp- thanks. RID: 36060
Click to report rating    11/30/10   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing, and yes I am experienced with this camp I have been going for 6 years, and next year will be my last as a camper, but I will surely be returning as a counselor. Alright, the hazing thing is not actually hazing, I personally experienced this two years ago, and at the time it was the best experience of my life. It was so helpful, and the counselors are not mean, they are just joking. I though that they looked really mean when I was a younger camper, but after experiencing it I noticed how silly I was being. When I was younger the only problem I ever had was homesickness, and at the time I did want to leave, but I am so glad that I came back! I probably would not have if there were not so many wonderful and supportive campers and counselors. I truly had the best experience of my life at Camp Longhorn last year! I have made some of the best friends of my entire life, and I would not trade that for anything!!! Attawaytogo RID: 34508

8/15/10   5     5     5     5     5   My son and daughter attended for the first time this year and they loved it! It is a wonderful place and the staff and counselors are very caring. They can't wait to get their early bird invitation. I feel lucky that the kids can have such a wonderful experience and I truly believe they will remember their summers at Camp Longhorn their entire lives. RID: 33746

9/7/09   5     5     5     5     5   I went as a camper when I was very young and am now a head counselor at Indian Springs. Camp Longhorn is an awesome camp, everything good stated above is true. Now let me give our side to the claims of hazing. Going through the Marine and Marina program is an honor. Yes you wear boxers on your head around camp and march to activities singing, but those campers also have special privileges and activities that I will not spoil here (it's for them to experience). Aside from that, campers build leadership skills and continually work together. It has become an obvious indication of how much fun the campers had at the end of the term when one of their generals is voted favorite counselor; the same counselors who, for the past week or two, didn't let them wear makeup, or if you were a marine, have them put on a little rouge. I have been away from camp for a month now and already can't wait to just go back and walk around. I could probably type for hours on the good qualities of camp so I'll e RID: 30911

Click to report rating    8/9/09   5     5     5     5     5   Unbelieveable camp!!! My children have gone to CLH for 3 years now, and every year they come home waiting anxiously to receive their early bird invitation back. They come home with as much or more respect than they left with. No other camp can give them the leadership skills and self esteem these kids come home with. From the interview process to the end of camp, V-day, home visits, and the annual "yearbook", CLH handles all with great organization, professionalism, and timing. Everyone is someone at CLH. Just go to the website, and see the smiles on these kids faces. Once you meet the counselors, you will feel a sense of warmth and compassion they have for these children. If you are looking for a camp, DO NOT hesitate to go to CLH. Just be ready for the time of your life! RID: 30676

He said it was Heaven On Earth and the chow hall is the 9th wonder of the world it is so good...he especially likes Chicken Fried Thursdays! We highly recommend CLH to all of our friends and invite them to V-Day (Visitors Day) at the camp or Carnival Day when it comes to our town. Click to report rating    7/12/08   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Longhorn is my second home. It is one of the greatest places in the world. I just finished my big bonnet year (Quail, 3rd year), and I have to admit it's been the funnest year yet. Even though I haven't expiereced marine/marina year yet, everyone who excpirced that I talked to loved it. The staff is incredibly nice and most of them have become my friends. The food is the best, and when they say "everybody is somebody at camp longhorn", they do mean "everybody is somebody at camp longhorn". Attawaytogo!! RID: 24780

Click to report rating    6/20/08   5     5     5     5     5   I sadly was never able to attend Camp Longhorn as a child, but I spent 3 summers there as a counselor, and really and truly, it IS the best camp!! I've been camp counselor for 7 years at 4 different camps, so I have an idea what I'm talking about. There is no decision whether or not to send your kids here - if you can get them in (there are waiting lists), ABSOLUTELY send them. I haven't been a counselor there in 5 years - and I still miss the place! :) I am a teacher and work with kids all the time - if any one has questions about Camp Longhorn, feel free to contact me about it! Click to report rating    6/7/08   5     5     5     5     5   CLH really is Heaven on earth. I have been attending camp longhorn for eight years and am sad to say this year will be my last summer as a camper. CLH instills an amazing sense of self-worth in every camper that goes through its many special programs. I have to say my favorite year as a camper was my marina year, the summer before ninth grade. That year was almost a mix of an initiation and extreme team-building and team-work skills. Through my many years at longhorn, I have learned to treat everyone as I want to be treated and to have no fear. I have formed life-long friendships with people who I never would have met had it not been for our primitive and crazy fun three weeks in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. If you are even thinking about going to camp, I would urge you to choose the best camp this world has seen, Camp Longhorn. --Attawaytogo!! RID: 23636

Click to report rating    4/16/08   5     5     5     5     5   This summer will be my eleventh year at camp, and at 19 its just as fun as when i was 9. Everyday is special and the counselors like myself have all been in the shoes of the campers and have all grown up at this true heaven on earth. There is not one negative thing to say about this place. From the directors, who's family has ran camp since it began in 1939, to the very land and beautiful scenery that surrounds you as you walk from activity to activity, to the secret liberties and events that are revealed to you as you get older, there is no place on earth i would rather spend the rest of time than camp longhorn!! Click to report rating    11/24/07   5     5     5     5     5   CAMP LONGHORN is heaven on earth. The best friends ever. 8 years and i still go back. there is NO hazing problem either. The marine and marina program is amazing. The fact that they dont let you primp your self for boys is soo fun. i went through. all it did was make the guys respect the girls more for their integrity and the girls grow closer as friends since they dont focus on boys. if your child wasnt invited back, there was a good reason no matter how much of a leader he/she is. its about positivity and respecting your leaders and others. it teaches great responsibility and independence. it also just teaches you to appreciate everything in life. from just looking off of church mountain and seeing the hills or living 3 weeks with out electricity its incredible. From the outside looking in you cant understand it. from the inside looking out, you cant explain it. I wouldnt recommend any other camp other than this one right here. CAMP LONGHORN< WE LOVE IT! Click to report rating    3/25/07   5     5     5     5     5   My son has been going to this camp for two years and he loves it. It has taught him a lot about responsibility. He has made wonderful friends for life. Camp Longhorn has little carnivals in most major Texas cities and the kids really enjoy seeing some of the counselors outside of camp. You have to be invited back each year which is very nice because your child understands that they have to behave correctly or they will not be coming back to camp. It also assures you that the camp is able to ensure that they spend time with the good kids and not have to focus on dicsipline problems. Overall my child comes back from camp each summer with the contentment of knowing he has had spent his time wisely. RID: 8964

9/25/06   5     5     5     5     5   This is THE BEST CAMP EVER!! Trust me. I've been going there eight years and I have also tried a few other camps (Camp T-Bar-M, Pine cove) which weren't at all as good. This camp has WONDERFUL activities, such as water socs, a lazy river, free swim, twinkie, water skiing, scuba, dance, crafts, SOOO MUCH MORE. All the campers are really close and there are so many special events to share (Dance Nite, Movie Nite, Rent-A-Rabbit, Fun Day, Carnival Nite, Marine/Marina, much more!!) and all the staff is REALLY nice. You really feel like you have a second home at camp longhorn. Everyone is VERY nice. you have a one on one meeting with a counselor every week to talk about anything. THE BEST CAMP BY FAR!! RID: 3508

My son attended for 3 years and after spending $1800 per 2 week session for 7 years&3 years-I was appalled by how my child was treated. This child is a great leader and received appointments to the Naval&Air Force academies. Look elsewhere for a camp! RID: 1585

Motto is "everybody is somebody at camp longhorn" Great food, AWESOME activities including blob, all sports, water activities like free swim, twinkie, blob, etc. and SO MUCH MORE! Has a cute petting zoo, too. So much special memories like Movie Nite, Dance Nite, and cookout. I LOVE THIS CAMP!! the camp also teaches good values by awarding campers "merits" when they do something good . they can spend the merits at the merit store for awesome prizes!!! RID: 384
