Click to report rating    7/11/19   5     5     5     5     5   I have been to two summer camps before i found CJL! and I have now been going for 7 years, and I am also about to be on staff! This place helped me find myself as well as amazing friends and memories that have lasted a long time! RID: 52727
Click to report rating    9/24/18   5     5     5     5     5   I was a camper and counselor at CJL and send my own daughter there now. This is a great camp for girls who love the outdoors, don't mind getting dirty, and are up for a bit of adventure! The campers sleep in 4-person platform tents with no electricity, and the activities include boating, archery, horseback, ropes course, hiking/back-packing, camp crafts, and more. They have a lake, a "swimming hole" with a small (natural) rock slide, and a pool with a diving board. The counselors are the best-- a large majority are alumnae of the camp. They are great role-models and work very well together. The feel of the camp and the facilities are rustic, but up-to-date and safe. CJL was historically a Girl Scout camp, but split with the Girl Scouts several decades ago and is now open to all girls. CJL still honors Juliette Low and its history as one of the first Girls Scout camps (founded in 1922), and there are many current and former Girl Scouts who attend. RID: 52277
Click to report rating    6/9/18   5     4     5     5     5   My daughter just returned from her first time at CJL, and she had the most amazing experience! She has dealt with her share of bullying growing up, but everyone at camp was inclusive, interactive, kind, helpful, and she wasn’t with the same girls all of the time. She was able to sign up for various activities, and learned life skills such as starting a fire, cooking over a fire, preparing meals, cleaning (she is messy at home but actually enjoyed doing chores at camp, being more self-sufficient), and just overall enjoying herself with none of the distractions of the outside world. Unplugged. No screens. She is in her room now singing camp songs and seems more relaxed and confident than I’ve seen her. They served home cooked, delicious meals, and more than burned off any snacks from the cantina. She wants to go an extra week or two next year! Oh, and she didn’t know anyone there (didn’t go with a friend). RID: 51878
Click to report rating    11/5/16   3     3     5     2     3   Not for deppressed, anxious, bipolar, autistic, socially awkward or any form of troubled chldren. Not for kids who are normally the target of bullying as well. This camp really only gets one main demographic, white, privileged, christian. If you have a young out spoken child that doesn't really fit this demographic, they're most likely to be lonely, or picked on. Staff is great for the most part, but counselors arent really trained to deal with distressed kids. The camp is also really cliquey ( and gossipy) so dont expect to make new friends if youre a bit older. This could be a great experience for you, I'm not downing it. It just didn't give me the independence or socializing i was looking for. Mostly memories of feeling alone/ not really liked by my peers. RID: 50220
Click to report rating    7/2/16   5     5     5     5     5   I've been going to Camp Juliette Low since I was 7 and it's absolutely amazing! I get to connect with people that I would never get to connect with outside of camp, and the bonds you create are moving. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone outdoorsy and outgoing! Click to report rating    7/13/15   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is a very special place with some of the most kind and fun campers and counselors anywhere. Both my daughters have had a wonderful time being outdoors. They have great classes including horseback riding, sailing and outdoor living skills, but what really sets it apart are the overnights, cookouts where campers plan their meals, and the many activities and traditions. There really are lifelong friendships made here. My daughters love it; I only wish I could have attended when I was their age! RID: 48870
Click to report rating    6/25/15   5     5     5     5     5   This place has been an amazing home for me for 10 years. It gives girls self-confidence that you just can't find in the real world. The staff are incredible, the whole program is amazing, and the land is beautiful. It is the highlight of my summer and has made me a better person. It may be too outdoorsy for some people, but for me and most people that go, it is a welcome break from the craziness of technology and the stress of life in the real world. RID: 48779
Click to report rating    6/2/15   2     1     3     3     1   I did not enjoy my time much at all. I went to Camp Juliette Low for 3 years, but each one left bad memories that would haunt me for the rest of my life. The counselers didn't have very good control over the kids, so they'd either get into trouble and never get caught or get lost in the woods. One time I sprained my ankle while playing flag football when a girl ran over me and the counselers sent me "alone" through the dark woods at night to try to find the nurses office. I was lost for an hour because I they didn't give me a flashlight and let me limp my way around. I was lost for two hours when, if I could see, it could've taken five minutes. Well I got back to camp, but everyone was asleep in there cabins and no one had gone looking for me even though the bed was empty, which was extremely unprofessional and unsafe. I know the camp teaches kids to be independent and responsible, but I hope that's not what they meant. As you can imagine, I did not enjoy Camp Juliette Low. RID: 48705
Click to report rating    4/26/15   2     3     3     2     2   I wasn't impressed. My daughter came back upset that some of the staff were "mean" to her, and she felt bullied when there were foods she didn't want to eat in the dining hall, and staff forced her to eat. I'll be the first to admit she's a picky eater, but she mostly just likes healthy stuff instead of cheesy casseroles. She felt embarrassed that the counselors turned the attention of the whole table on her and pressured her into eating things like buttery potatoes, casseroles, chicken fried steak, and fried okra. Why are they forcing my kid to try food that's not even healthy, when she's perfectly happy (and full) eating the salad, fruit, vegetables, and lean meat on the table? She's a middle schooler, so she already knows she doesn't like fried food, and that foods with a lot of butter or oil upset her stomach. If you're going to force kids to take "scout bites", at least have decent, healthy food. RID: 48616
Click to report rating    11/6/14   5     5     5     5     5   This Camp really boosted my self confidence i have been going there for 10 years and i still get excited during the year im so ready to go back. Camp teaches girls to be independent it teaches you that you can survive with the life skills they teach you! You basically are outside 24/7 it great! You learn alot of skills you wouldn't learn at home. The Counselors are great they really inspire me to go for my dreams and they are great role models. Check out CJL its a great place full of FANTASTIC people RID: 48126
Click to report rating    3/16/13   5     5     5     5     5   I attended Camp Juliette Low in the 1960s for 8 years and LOVED it. Both my daughter and grandaughter have been long-time campers here also. It taught me how to be independent and self-reliant. The setting atop Lookout Mountains is beautiful and the rustic facilities make it very special. I always loved sleeping in a tent and hearing the wind blow through the trees at night. Some of my best friends today are girls I met at CJL all those years ago. RID: 43997
Click to report rating    7/25/12   5     5     5     5     5   This is the best summer camp ever. Also they have the greatest food ever. Its like a home away from home type of feel for me. Idk anyone one who has not LOVED this camp. RID: 42084
Click to report rating    6/9/11   5     5     5     5     5   Of all the camps that my four children have attended, this is my favorite. The mood is peaceful, the setting is lovely and the counselors are great. My 12-year-old is about to go for her third time. This is a wonderful place for kids to be kids. I can recommend it without reservation. We have talked three other friends into going and they, too, love it and want to go back. RID: 36073
Click to report rating    4/21/08   5     5     5     5     5   Thank You Lord for giving me Camp Juliette Low! The camp site is soo beautiful. You can come out of your shell in this place and just be yourself. I love that place probably more than anything in the world and think of it as a second home. RID: 22481
Click to report rating    10/21/07   1     1     1     1     1   this is the worst camp ever. when i went- someone stole my camera and took naughty pictures with it and the councilers took it and wouldnt get me a new one. o and also the riding barn sucked. i ride and they treated me like a baby. theyr like "o can u trot" duh i can canter and gallop and jump and do a mini- passage. and also the chores were terrible. and so were the tents. yes i said TENTS! i hate that camp and anyone who likes it is crazy. interlochen is wayyy better. Click to report rating    5/22/06   5     5     5     5     5   Great place for daughters to learn value, responsiblity, and independence! Something special about a camp that has mothers and daughters attending the same camp! Not a "retreat camp", but an "I can do it" experience! Definitely made my daughter a more mature college freshman...no doubt. Started camping at CJL at age 8, camp counselor at age 18. A great place to spend the summer. RID: 391
