Do not trust your son to be well cared for or treated fairly at this camp. They will sacrifice him to protect their own.
A year ago, we would have given this camp 5 stars. Well a lot can change in a year and now if there was a zero star option, we would choose it. Our son was invited back here in 2023 for his second year after a great first year in 2022. We initially signed him up for 4 weeks and were greeted with great enthusiasm when we extended to 7 weeks.
Unfortunately, camp leadership changed in 2023. On the third night of camp, our son was assaulted in his bunk by another boy. The boy hit him in the head with a metal water bottle and our son sustained a mild concussion. By all accounts, this assault was unprovoked. The boy was allowed to remain at camp and again assaulted our son several days later by punching him in the head. This boy was again not removed. Ultimately, our son retaliated after ongoing antagonization
by this boy and as a result, was sent home

I went to Camp Wigwam from 1945-1950, knew Mandy and Pop well. Also had Paul Trent, and Eddie Lehman as tent mates. Being from Deal N.J. I have many Photos of my years there. Now at age 84, it seems like yesterday on the camp train and tennis with Milton Remington Abbot. I am Ronny Rubin at winrider99@aol.com If you chose to be in touch.

Greatest camp there is out there! I have been going there for a couple years and it is the best decision I ever made. The camp director, Bob Strauss, is an incredible person. The counselors are indescribably unbelievable. My bunk mates over the years have turned into my brothers. The camp is a brotherhood where everyone is respected and excepted.

What can I possibly say about Camp Wigwam? One of the most amazing experiences my son has had. Such a warm, caring and delightful group of people (counselors, director, campers). I truly believe that kind-hearted people attract same-like people and that is the experience at Camp Wigwam. The director, Bob, is one of the most genuine and generous people you will ever meet. His kindness I will never forget. Those qualities trickle down to the counselors and the campers this camp attracts. This is my son's second year and we will be back many years to come.

I went to this camp for 6 years when I was a kid and it was the greatest experience of my life. I have traveled back for alumni reunions and couldn't wait until my son was old enough to go himself. He is there right now for his first time and we just got back from visiting day and he was so happy. He said it was the best summer ever. He is doing all the things he loves and he said all of the counselors and campers are amazing. It is truly the greatest camp in the US and Bob Strauss is the best camp director. Everyone should send their son to Wigwam.

This camp is incredible- My 12 yr old was scared and did not want to be away from home. He initially wanted to do a trial and was going to stay 3 weeks- Ended up loving it and staying all 7 weeks! The Camp Director,Bob Strauss is amazing- his attention to details and nightly events for the boys were spectacular. This is the BEST boys camp- Encompassing diversity in every aspect.

Can't rate this camp high enough - my 10-year old is having the time of his life this summer. Camp combines all sorts of activities (sports, arts/crafts) and all kinds of kids from across the US and Europe. Less structured than some camps but kids can focus on what they love during the summer. Counselors are tremendous. Active CIT program. Many counselors and CITS were longtime Wigwam campers so they understand what the camps is about. Bob Strauss (camp director) is superb.

We were hoping a summer camp experience would help our ten year old son learn to interact more with others, boost his self esteem and try new things. We got that and so much more. The changes were apparent after only a few weeks when we saw him on visiting day. He was much more relaxed and easy going; didn't agitate as easily and demonstrated enormous patience with his younger sister. Now two months later, we celebrate a maturing young man who seems more comfortable in his skin and better able to navigate his surroundings with ease. Wigwam is his new second home and we all look foward to many happy summers on Bear pond.

I never thought my 9 yr. old son would stay! He never slept at anyone's house... was too afraid. We reviewed about 12 different camp info packets and my son chose Wigwam. I was the biggest skeptic on earth! Bob Strauss could not have been more informative, attentive, compassionate and understanding of my freak outs before and during my son's stay. My child was invited to try it for 2 weeks and stayed for 5..... amazing. He had a wonderful experience and gained confidence in himself, which he didn't have before. He calls it 'man camp' and is very excited to be returning. They emphasize participation but don't push. They have every sport you can think of, arts, science, music and even tutors. The counselor to child ratio is perfect. The rustic cabins and well-worn paths are a great environment for boys to be boys. All the staff and counselors are wonderful, friendly people who have been there for years. I would highly recommend Wigwam!

Amazing place. Been around forever, and seems the values are the same they have always been. Focus on Participation vs. Competition insures all campers have fun. Low camper to staff ratio insures plenty of attention/supervision. The camp director, Bob Strauss, is one of the most amazing people I have ever known. The program is diverse and gives campers a well rounded experience that will expose kids to things they might not otherwise. I know for a fact that the experiences there have influenced the direction campers have taken in life and led them to very successful careers. And most have made friends for life. The number of second and third generation campers shows how connected families are to wigwam. And the incredible return rate of both campers and counselors also shows how loved the place is. I was a camper, a counselor (as was my brother) and have seen three of my nephews attend, between all of us, I think we have over 40 years at Wigwam. Wish I was there right now!

Great camp for boys to be boys.. This fast paced world is, well, too fast.. Slow it down with a real rustic camp that will show your son what true friends and nature really are.. I was a counselor here and the summer was my vacation.. I could have done pretty much anything, but I chose to work at this camp..

Telling someone Wigwam is great isn't enough. This place has a magical aura around it. Camp Owner/Director Bob Strauss told me about the unique atmosphere before I had a chance to see it myself. I didn’t understand quite what he meant. My first experience with Wigwam was as a counselor in 2006. I found out fast what Mr. Strauss was talking about. I remember specifically, one of the first times when the mood and camaraderie of the camp really showed me what Wigwam was all about. Bob Strauss just happened to be next to me – he has a way of being everywhere at once – Bob turned to me with a grin, like he knew what I was thinking and said “It’s a special place isn’t it?”. Mr. Strauss never fails to keep the atmosphere of Wigwam a comfortable one. Camp Wigwam offers so much to each individual child. The experience of this incredibly magical ambiance is one that all should encounter. When you first pass through the entrance of Camp Wigwam you are starting a memory that will last a lifetime.

There are very few special places in this world that capture a time and experience like Wigwam. I am forever filled with great memories, and affection. I can only hope my son enjoys the same experience. But with Strauss's at the helm, the amazing dedication and passion Wigwam is in good hands for many years to come!

I spent 5 summers at the camp. And as a camper or as a staff member I always spent wonderful times. Unforgivable times! It was for me (as a French) a great welcoming adventure in the US where I work now. Definitely if I didn't have a job I can't quit for two months in the summer, I would go back. Unfortunately I will probably always miss the family that everyone finds there among the best activities and landscapes, especially when the summer is approaching. I'm not surprise of the other reviews, it's all so true!! And of course my favorite sweatshirt is my old worn out Wigwam sweatshirt I wear all the time.

Ten summers on the shores of bear lake rate among my best days. I wish I didn't have an adult job - would love to keep going back if I could. Truly the best thing a parent can do for their son is to send them to Wigwam. It's more than sports, the location, and the facilities. It's the staff, the tradition, and the belief that every child can find a place to belong at Wigwam. It's much, much more than a business to the Strauss family...

My first summer at Camp Wigwam was in 2003. I was eleven years old, and very homesick. But my friends and my counselor helped me through a rough first summer and I returned for a second one, hopeful I would miss home less. That was six years ago, I am now returning to the 'Wam for my seventh, consecutive year, on staff, an amazing opportunity and a true honor. The spirit of Camp Wigwam is truly undescribable, hard to write in words. To put it simply, Wigwam is a very special community where people care about each other. The staff is nurturing and fun to be around. You can always find a pick up game to play at the world famous basketball court, the "Pooch." Campers are able to sign up for the activities they so please, which means you aren't stuck playing basketball if you'd rather hit a tennis ball. Owner and Director Bob Strauss is an extraordinary human being, who everyone looks up to in the Wigwam community. I rated 5/5 for every category, because I truly have no critique of Wigwam.

Words cannot describe this place, but I'll try to sum it up: When you first arrive, you see a baseball diamond and some cabins and tents. You soon discover the lake, the mountains, the lodge, lifelong friends, a million activities, never-ending fun, and the feeling of really being alive! When you leave all you can think about is getting back. And most do return for many summers. I went there as a camper for 6 years and a counselor for 5 more. I fully recommend this place because there could be no better. Period.

most amazing place you will ever experience. first went when I was 9, signed up to stay for 4 weeks and called my parents begging to stay for the full 7. I remember ever single one of my counselors through my 8 years as a camper and was privileged to be a counselor for my 9th year. Bob Strauss is one of the greatest persons I have ever met in my life, I don't know how you could knock him in any way. so many great memories, hiking trips, color war, white water rafting, way too many things to list. haven't been back for 2 years and my summers just haven't been the same. hopefully one summer I'll be able to make it back. if you're considering a summer camp, I guarantee you will not find a greater place

Camp Wigwam is truly a unique summer camp in that staff and children of all ages form lifelong friendships with one another right on the shores of Bear Lake. Director, Bob Strauss, charismatically leads the camp into it's 98th annual season with yet another incredible group of staff.

Wigwam is the best place on earth. There's basebal theres hockey, there's swiming there's gockey, there's football there's Fenway, there's soccer there's beach day, there's trampoline flips, CIT trips, watergun fights, song and cheer night!(all you faithful wammers will get that.) Everyone there is great, campers and counselors, except that sam graboys kid. Stan, Bobby, Mike, (still living with me)All great guys. At wigwam you can be yourself and you can fit in and, as i did, you can have the best summer of your life. For forty-nine days each year, you can let go of the school bullies, of the exclusion, and of the boringness of your everyday life and just let go. You can hang out with people and make friends like you never did before. I assure you, you will not regret your seven weeks on the white sand beaches of Bear Lake. (PS Go 5 Year Club!!!)

Camp Wigwam is the place that has made me who I am. I've been at camp for 7 years, the last one as a counselor. The best part is that you get the freedom to do what you want - activities are self-scheduled, letting kids pursue their passions while still taking risks and trying new things.

Camp Wigwam is literally my favorite place in the world. The staff is unbelievable, and the campers are equally amazing. At least in my experience, going to Wigwam is one of the best and most rewarding decisions I have ever made. The people are what make any summer camp, and I cannot imagine any summer camp or general group of people that could compare to the people I have met at Wigwam. Not only is the director an amazing person, but it seems everyone you meet is friendly and fun to be with. Wigwam has a way of making you forget your insecurities and the stress of life anywhere else. Facilities are not what make a summer camp, it's the people, and as far as people go, Wigwam is the best.
