You don't want to put your child in this camp because this camp IS HORRIBLE here at this camp the staff is annoying and they talk about the kids that they don't like and a mean way. this camp had disgusting facilities that never got cleaned. we had to sing ANNOYING songs every place we go and this place didn't have many activities and the ones that we had weren't good or fun. They would force you to clean everything on the last day of camp. the staff at this camp don't care about all the kids and they pick favorites. The food here is disgusting also. In this hell, you are forced to do everything you can't choose. I had bad experiences with this camp and never want to return. I don't recommend it at all.1 star please never send your child here.

I attented this camp once and never want to go back again. The staff were nice but not helpful plus their annoying. The girls are mean and sabatoge others, you are forced to clean the disgusting facilities each day. the pond is gross and mucky. The activities were cool and fun and intresting but the staff were not the best. they gave you attention but also blamed you for things you did not do. over all if your kid can handal these things then defintly send them but if not don't send them.

My daughter loves this camp and always has a great time. The staff is generally very warm and friendly. The facilities for campers could use some updating- a canvas tent on a platform with some creaky cot frames, but my daughter didn't care one bit. As overnight camps go, this is a more affordable one. The one week camp is really 5 days and pick up at 5PM on a Friday evening isn't easy on parents- work and traffic wise. Overall, it's a camp I recommend- love girl scouts day camp too!

I went to Hoffman for 7 summers (1995-2001) and I still remember this place like it was yesterday! Reviewer from Log Cabin that carried the flags during the 80th celebration...I most likely know you, I was in Log Cabin that summer! I also did Rangers 3 years in a row, as well as Adventure Backpacking, Curtain Call, Get Up & Go, and Camp Discovery. I second that Troy, Tink, Yogi, Sassy, Bungee, Shorty were THE ABSOLUTE BEST counselors, ever, period, end of story. (Anyone remember "Sassy Stars?") Seriously, this place gave me the best times in my childhood from Pixie Parties to fires at Gypsy's Rest. They eventually put the "flushies" in during my last summer, but nothing beats those old latrines (Latrine Queens anyone??) I even remember going to the ribbon cutting ceremony for Wellville! I miss Hoffman everyday but I'm glad the legacy continues! "So come along with us and wipe away your sadness. Happy campers are we, having fun 'neath the trees..."

I went to Hoffman 1996-2002 and they were the best summers of my life. Shorty, Troy, Tink, Cactus, Yogi, Topaz, Ferret, Sassy, Bungee were some of the best counselors I've had and I still look back and remember all the good times there. I remember when there were no "flushies," we ate in Rooftree and Wellville was next to House By the Side of the Road. I did "rangers" three years in a row and my unit (Log Cabin) carried in the flags during the 80th celebration. I would highly recommend Hoffman to any girl (scout or not) in RI and nearby MA. I still talk about Hoffman almost everyday and I'm still good friends with people I met there almost 15 years ago (I'm 24 now). I wish I was a kid again so I could spend a night in the farthest tent in Ridge and have to walk by Pooh Corner to make it to breakfast in the morning. "Some call it fun, but some may call it madness..."

Everyone there is so friendly and great and they have plumbing in what they call flushies because they are flushing toillets. The staff is amazing beyond belief. They take care of each girls needs and they make the whole expirience awsome. Camp Hoffman is also resonably priced and is a great deal open to any girl in the RI area. I recamend this camp highly.

I started going to Camp Hoffman in third grade. At the time I had just moved from out of state. I didn't know anybody, but I became friends with one girl on the first day. As luck would have it, that girl was in my girl scout troop that I joined to be with a friend I met at school in the fall. Anyways, going to Camp Hoffman will always be one of my best memories as a girl scout and I plan to continue making these memories as I enter high school next year.

Even though my daughter attended camp 2 yrs. summers ago, I still stand by my statements that she was evidently black and blue on her thighs and forearms (and her torso), and she did not receive medical attention. She was a shy 9 yr. old, and she did tell the counselor that she was very sore following a canoeing incident. I wish I could post pictures of just how horrible she looked, and her physician was appalled that no ice packs or pain med was administered. The counselor/staff told me the black and blue marks only became evident the morning I came to pick her up. If this camp was not run by Girls Scouts of RI, a wonderful organization, I would definitely have initiated a lawsuit for the amount of negligence involved. I would never send her back to Camp Hoffman because of my concerns about safety.

My child has gone to camp hoffman for several years and always recieved excellent care. She had 2 health issues during 2 different seasons, both times she recieved excellent medical care and I was notified right away about any issues. She also has a chronic medical condition and they made sure she took her meds right on schedule. She made lots of friends that she still keeps in contact with, went back to do both CIT programs and is looking towards being a counselor. The counselors were amazing and very inspirational to her. A lot of them are from around the world it it really broadened her horizons about different parts of the world and traveling. There were a lot of activities available each session and the only problem was she always wished she could fit more in! Also, this camp is open to any girl, my child was not a scout but they accepted her anyway. She loved all the people so much that she would have joined a scout when she got back home if there had been a one in our area.

I’m sorry but there is no way your daughter walked around black and blue without anyone noticing or doing anything about it. My mom was notified when I was given aspirin. ANYWAY I love camp so much this is going to me my 9th summer there and I cant think of any other way I would want to spend my summers. The friendships that can be made is amazing and the counselors you meet. Its all just so much fun, and if your child comes home not having fun, to bad its there own fault because I know that the counselors always ask the girls what they would like to do while they’re there i.e boating archery, hikes, nature, photography, so camp is as fun as you make it.

YES I totally agree with the last couple of comments. This camp is AMAZING. I myself am going on to my 7th summer at Hoffman, and it is so excellent I plan to go here until I am entering 12th grade. I shall then be a counselor as my summer job. I would never want to be parted from this special place. This camp has been my second home since I started going here in 2nd grade; and I've learned so much from it. And as to the injuries discussed earlier, in my third summer I got bitten by an ant; that was a really minor injury. The counselors did an excellent job taking care of me. They comforted me, for I was only going into 5th grade and was young, and they kept asking me how I was feeling. I do not believe that the counselors would have let a child who is covered in bruises walk around camp with no medical attention. In closing, I love this camp and I am sure others do also. They pay excellent attention to their campers, and I highly recommend this camp to everyone.

camp hoffman was my summer home. i adored going there. when i dropped out of scouts involuntarily i was afriad i wasnt able to go back. and now, i would like to cit train but i do no thave the money. i leanred may lessons there and will neevr forget it. the counserlers were amazing and became like family. as did the girls. not only did my own leaders, but the whole camp did. i am ashamed to see the bad comments of injured girls. and i am sure you blow that out of proportion, if you get a little scratch they make sure that attention is sought. i myself was on my way to dehydration late at night, and my leaders stayed up with me till i was well. i was sick several times and they always made sure i was ohk. they are not careless, theyre amazing! and if i evber had the chance to go back i would. thanks to all who made my summers amazing, ill never forget you! if your child is old enough to attend i reccomend it, it would be horrible to miss!

In response, my daughter did not have a few bruises, she was completely black and blue head to toe. She did not sleep for two nights and was in pain, and was given no pain medication. We immediately took her to her physician and had to be given pain medication and ice packs to reduce the swelling. This was complete irresponsibility on the counselor's part for not taking her to the camp nurse.
