My name is Neil Preston. I’ve been a part of the Hawkeye community for 14 years. The Hawkeye community holds a special place in my heart. From learning social skills, to sports and even learning how to write a resume, Hawkeye gives your child the opportunity to grow as an individual. With learning about yourself, and becoming more independent at a sleep away camp you also get to know others and create life long bonds. Hawkeye is a place where it doesn’t matter your background, race or religion- you can come to this wonderful community and be blessed by the power of Diversity Leadership and Community.I deeply encourage you to allow your child to embark on the incredible adventure that is Hawkeye.

Camp Hawkeye is a terrific camp with great directors and a focus on diversity, inclusion and exploration. Garett and Jess work tirelessly to ensure Hawkeye serves its community and is open to all people, fom all backgrounds and economic situations. As a small to medium sized camp, Hawkeye is able to focus on the individual within a group, help each child develop skills and give them the attention they need. In today’s world, summer camps experiences like Camp Hawkeye are important for kids and parents.

Unfortunately, I sent my child to this camp and they had almost nothing positive to say about it. Having seen the facilities, I can say with certainty the cabins are decidedly below average. I had hoped the experience would make up for the surroundings, but clearly it didn't. The only good thing I can say about it is it was relatively cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I've been attending this camp since the age of 11, and now I am 21 and I run the kitchen at Hawkeye. I am very excited and very proud to be able to say that I am apart of this family. They have given me skills that I transition to my everyday life. I love the camp site and the type of people that I get to meet, especially the different cultures and learning how things are done in different countries. Garrett and Jess have been a huge part of my life as a child growing up and have continued to be a very strong and helpful support base for me as a student athlete in college. I am very grateful to have them in my life and I am happy that I attended Hawkeye because when I decided to go to Hawkeye, little did I know that I was not going to just a summer camp, I was somewhat being adopted by a family. People that will always care about me and will always be there for me if I need a helping hand or simply just some advice. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience; join us and help grow our family.

The Camp Hawkeye community is the best group I've ever been a part of. The staff are mostly people who were campers and they really love what they do. It is a lot of work but changing the world isn't an easy thing. Camp Hawkeye is my favorite place in the world to be!

I was a staff member here so this is more a review for potential counselors. As far as I could tell, most of the kids had a great time. Unfortunately, this was a bad place to be a counselor. You are overworked because you act as maintenance and the camp is understaffed to cut costs. I was working upwards of 80 hours per week (which worked out to about $2 an hour). Preference is always given to those who have been there before, regardless of their competence, or lack thereof. You are treated as little more than campers, and you cannot do anything, even on your off time, without notifying the directors first. I think there was 1 counselor there who actively wanted to return. You don't get to use your phone or laptop and you are forced to do things you do not want to do. This camp is harmful for kids who have had issues with depression or anxiety, and LGBT campers, otherwise, the kids have fun. The counselors really go out of their way to make it fun, but they are the ones who suffer.

My name is John Santiago and I have been attending Camp Hawkeye since the age 12. I have been a camper for a number of years and now I am 20 years old and currently the head chef of the camp. From my experience at Hawkeye, I have made a number of life long friends from all over the world and the staff members have always kept in touch with me. This isn't just a summer camp to me, it is a second home and I've made tons of memories and friends here that I will never forget.

This camp is the best camp in the world. I made so many friends and got to try a lot of cool activities. I am definitely going back until I will be a staff member. I loved the food!! I loved the kids in my cabin- some of them were from other countries. I got to learn how to cook things. It's the BEST.

i hated this camp. I cried myself to sleep each night. The activities were very boring and there were only about 5. It's also WAY too small. All the girls in my cabin were super weird. I wrote my parents and friends everyday saying that "my books and letters were my only escape". The other thing that I absolutely hated was that campers weren't allowed ANYWHERE without a counsler. We couldn't go to the bathroom, washhouse, activites, or do something interesting during free period. They were also anti-boy. I tried to talk to a boy and my counselor would legit come scream in my face going "GO CONNECT WITH YOUR CABIN!!!" I am never going back here. Please, Save your kids from making the same horrible choice I did.

If you guys are rating this camp with 1 to 4's your all wrong. This year was my third year and i love it so much. the people you meet is worth wild and the counselors are amazing. Coming to this camp year after year is so much fun. I love it so much and if i hadn't been introduced to this camp I dont think my life would of been the same. Tribe stuff is awesome and being a huron rocks. I also love cheffy. He rocks at cooking. I cant wait til another year at this camp. And for those who rated it low you should really give this camp another try because it's one of the best ones around. Camp Hawkeye was more than a camp to me it was like my second home. And staying 8 weeks was a challenge but with everyone who was at camp they make you want to stay longer. I hope more counselors and campers can come and enjoy one of the best summers of their lives like I did. And the director Garrett is awesome!! He's so awesome and funny if he wasn't the director i don't think came would of been the same

I really didn't like this camp. The counselors were really weird and they favored some campers about others. The food was TERRIBLE! I hated free choice because all the good activities were never open. The drama program was awful. The kids were anoying and exclusive. The bathrooms were disgusting. DO NOT GO THERE!
