A beautiful tranquil lake, huge stone fire pit, and an ample and clean dining space are camp highlights. The camp is currently undergoing significant renovations. I believe post refresh the camp facilities will be fantastic and a good value for a rewarding camp experience.

Our son has gone to Mondamin for 5 summers. We now have several friends whose kids are going there as well because our son told his friends how much he loves it! Camp Mondamin is a boy’s dream come true! He stays in touch with his cabin mates all year and can’t wait to get back each summer.

My child was severely bullied and attacked at this camp and when the Director became aware of the situation he did not protect my child, stop the bullying, or call his parents. Worse yet my child was told if he did call us we would be upset about losing our tuition cost. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS CAMP!

Mondamin has been the very best experience for my son. He started with the 1 week starter camp at 6 years old and we are now on year 11! I cannot even begin to describe the incredible impact Mondamin has had on him. He has developed valuable life long hobbies, habits, and friends. There is no place he'd rather be every summer.

Just generally not impressed after one summer. My camper does not wish to return. Facilities a bit underwhelming. Staff that I met was ok- not warm and fuzzy or attentive to be sure. My kid is already electronics free and fairly outdoorsy so maybe thats why not so impressed.

This is the most amazing camp! My husband and his brother were campers and now my 2 boys are. My oldest (a 12 year old) has been a camper the last 5 years. My youngest (a 8 year old) son started last summer in the 5 day camp and will attend the 3 week camp this summer. Camp teaches them so much independence and self confidence. They have made friendships that I hope will last a lifetime! We’ve had multiple friends’ children attend as well and I love to see that they have the same feelings as our family. The staff and counselors are great role models! They truly bond with the campers. This place is magical!

When you send out your mass emails you still sometimes contact me. I asked you not to contact me again, it gets me very upset. Why should you invite me to your events. I am not going to give you any money. I can tell you with confidence that no one in my family will ever send children to be indoctrinated into your organization again. I have zero interest in what you are up to or your lives. Words fail to express the animosity I feel towards you.

My 11 year old son was in 2018 summer camp for the first time and he had a blast. Weeks after coming back from the camp he still talked about the fun things from the camp. I like it that kids don’t have access to electronics at the camps for weeks, enjoy reading my son’s hand written postcard from the camp each week, also enjoy reading counselor’s letter talking about son’s activities and progress, enjoy browsing camp photo everyday looking for son and his friends’ happy face. From conversations with my son I can feel a very supportive environment at the camp. It is a place for kids to relax and grow. I had concerns on my 11 year-old sun protection and bug bite etc. before the camp since there were so much outdoor time, it turned out to be all right, I am not exactly sure how this was managed. We will go back to Mondamin next year.

My son has attended Mondamin for 4 years and it is the highlight of his year! The facility is located on the most beautiful lake in North Carolina. He loves the focus on traditional camp, outdoorsman activities (hiking, kayaking, mountain biking). The counselors are incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in their area of expertise and really want to build into the kids and see them develop. More than anything, he has met wonderful friends from all different states and countries that will last a lifetime.

As a former camper, I learned life long outdoor skills but more importantly, life skills. I learned to be independent, self confident, and self sufficient. My sense of adventure was encouraged and cultivated. I was thrilled for my son to attend Mondamin. He has gone for 2 years and is signed up for his third. He came home energized by the outdoors and excited by all the friends he made from around the world.

My son loves Mondamin--it's his favorite place in the world and he'll talk about it to anyone around who will listen. He always comes back more confident and mature, with some amazing stories. He gets dirty and sweaty, always learns some new skills, and is unplugged for 3 weeks. All things I want in a summer camp experience.

Everything about Mondamin is amazing as a camper. It is an incredibly healthy and happy atmosphere with endless opportunities I would never have outside of camp. The staff always do their job to make everyone feel comfortable and involved on trips and in camp, and I can confidently say that some of the best memories and friends I’ve ever made come from summers at Mondamin.

Our son went to junior (early June) camp for the first time in 2018. Despite it raining nonstop for the entire week he was there, he had the time of his life! He loved having his choice of activities and trying things new to him like kayaking. His cabin counselor was wonderful and I loved hearing how he read to the boys every night before bed. He was never homesick and can’t wait to go back for three weeks next summer. It was a perfect introduction to sleepaway camp.

The experience was amazing for all of us. Everyone at camp was so friendly and helpful at all times. It is a small environment of great people coming together to not only have a great summer but teach the campers new skills. They developed in all areas, including character which to us is most important. They made new friends and were able to challenge themselves to try new activities. The camp itself sits on top of a mountain with a lake. As we drove in it felt like we were driving into the heavens. It's a beautiful place with an amazing team running the activities. We received letters from the counselors and the boys weekly. Always happy to hear the camp stories, adventures and goals. We are very fortunate to have found camp Mondamin and highly recommend this camp. The staff, counselors, programs and activities are an ideal setting for a child to have a great summer, make friends, become more independent, challenge themselves, learn new skills, have fun, and all in a safe environment.

As a former counselor I know the camp goes the extra mile to recruit and train staff exceptionally. Having many of the counselors trained in wilderness first responder not only helps in the event of an emergency, but also sets the expert leadership mindset for the counselors. The facilities are rustic and perfect for bringing the kids close to each other and nature. Monmdamin recruits advanced kayakers, bikers, climers etc..., trains them how to teach campers and spends the extra money for sufficient amounts of the best gear in order to support these activities. It was obvious to me when I visited for my son during 3 week camp he had made friendships with many counselors and fellow campers. It was obvious to me my son got something money couldn't buy when a few days after returning home he cried thinking about how much he was missing his cabin mates and counselors.

I was both a camper and counselor at Mondamin in the 70's and 80's, and it is truly a special place. It's a safe environment in which to grow personally, socially and in outdoor skills. The staff is professional, supportive, and has the expertise to teach kids how to thrive in outdoor pursuits, even if they have zero skill base to start. The co-eds with Green Cove (the sister camp) are well supervised and a safe venue to learn about how to deal with 'girls' in a respectful and honest way. Cliques and bullying are not tolerated, and the camp and activities are non-competitive; the focus is trying to improve your skills. Kids also have the freedom to focus on those activities that most interest them, which leads to invitations/qualifications to go on the many multi-day out-of-camp trips kayaking/canoeing white water rivers, backpacking/camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and sailing. I now send my kids to Mondamin, which is the best endorsement.

My two sons, ages 13 and 11, have attended Mondamin for the last two years. Wow! What an amazing experience. While they were very nervous about giving up their electronics for five weeks, I was thrilled! Staff is amazing; activities are great; and they loved the food! Most importantly, they have confidence in themselves that I could never teach!!!! Thanks, Mondamin.

All 3 of our sons have attended Mondamin for years. We absolutely love it. The skills they learn and experiences they have at camp are those our boys can't get anywhere else. Every year, they are so excited to go back and see old friends, previous counselors and of course have fun! Camp Mondamin rocks!!

My kids have gone to Mondamin and Green Cove for the past 4 years. It is their "happy place" and a place that they grow each year. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the scenery and weather can't be beat. The staff, from the Bell Family to the individual counselors are experienced, caring and energetic. The counselors are experts in their areas from kayaking to mountain biking to rock climbing and more. Best of all, the non-competitive nature of the camp brings out the best in each camper. Campers set their own goals and counselors guide, support, encourage and teach. This set up leaves the group cheering for each other and gives kids unbelievable independence and confidence.

Our 2 sons attend Mondamin: the oldest just completed his 5th summer, and our middle son completed his 3rd summer. Though they are very different boys, both have thrived at Mondamin and have grown and developed in so many ways. They have become accomplished mountain bikers and canoers, have learned how to be independent while becoming part of a community, have learned respect for the outdoors, and have survived weeks "off the grid". When we arrive each summer, you feel them relax knowing they are in their "happy place" where they are accepted for who they are. Mondamin has years of experience raising young men and recruits top notch counselors who are fun, excellent teachers, and skilled at their activity. We have no reservations recommending anyone to Mondamin- it is the very best thing we do for our boys each year.

My son attended Mondamin for 9 summers. The culture of "Mondo", which is diverse and inclusive, leaves our sons wanting to come back for the friendships,skill-development,personal growth and FUN!!! Mondo is everything I could have hoped for with respect to the important life-lessons that he has developed over his time there.Lessons like seeing the direct rewards of one’s own hard work, learning to be a part of a community (of people – not social media), seeing that there is a larger world outside of his own small community, scheduling his own activities, and being accountable to those around him.The staff at Mondo is the heart of the program, and largely responsible for the success and fun.Mondo takes great care in screening older young men, training them extensively, and maintaining a high level of expectation of each staff member.Safety of the campers and staff is a top priority. The counselors are personally invested in each child’s success, and this is what makes the Mondo community speci

My son has attended Mondamin every summer for the past six summers, starting with the one week, 4 years of 3 week, and now his first five week session. Every summer he comes back full of great stories, new skills and self-confidence. Though he did not necessarily start out as an "outside" kid, he's ended up a huge fan of hiking and rock-climbing; he leaves his beloved technology behind each summer without a backward glance. We couldn't be happier with our choice of Mondamin.

My son has attended Mondamin for the past 5 summers and now it feels lika a home away from home. The staff couldn't be more in tune with each boy's personalities and personal needs. Each boy is pushed at their own pace to reach independence and goals set at the beginning of the summer. Aside from the ultimate confidence built by Mondamin's unique programming giving boys the freedom to try different activities at their own pace, Mondamin boys develop life and outdoor skills that will benefit them their entire adolescence and adulthood. I couldn't recommend Mondamin more! PS - I rated Mondamin facilities a 3 because the place is intentionally "rustic" because the boys spend much more time off campus on trips then in camp facilities.

My son has so much fun just being a boy while being stretched to learn skills and personal responsibility. He told me he was "camp sick" (as opposed to homesick) when he got home from camp this summer because he already missed Mondamin.

My son has been attending Camp Mondamin for the past 3 years and has signed up for main camp in 2016. He enjoys camp so much and talks about it constantly all year. He loves the independence it provides him and also all of the challenges. He comes back a more mature person every year. His goal is to become a counselor in the future. As parents we love that kids get "unplugged" for 2-5 weeks. I can't say enough positive things about Camp Mondamin and Green Cove.

Our son (now age 23) was a Mondamin camper since age 9 until his counselor years in college. As parents, we feel so fortunate that he was able to spend his summers with such amazing role models and people, and also make life long friends. Mondamin is a nirvana for boys where they can learn life skills, have great adventures, and be boys without all the high pressure environments of year round sports. They are in the mountains and doing what kids are supposed to do in summer- be kids! Our son wishes every summer that he was back on Lake Summit with his "Mondo" friends!

Camp Mondamin & Green Cove impart outdoor skills to last a lifetime. The staff are enthusiastic and professional and are hired for their expertise in specific activities. GC&M have it all - competitive sailing, an expert paddling program (whitewater canoes & kayaks), mountain biking, climbing, tennis, even a year-round horse program (no rented, skittish horses here). Campers work to achieve competence in order to earn off-camp trips; they camp out climbing real rocks, paddling a variety of rivers, sailing mtn lakes, mountain-biking & hiking all over. Throughout all of this, campers learn how to do it all on their own and gain confidence in their ability to plan, setup, & enjoy! They also play hard with all the usual camp fun, but with a HUGE zipline out of the trees above the cabins into the lake way below. To top it all off, the food is the bomb! The chefs offer healthy whole foods w/ a lot of variety. We've attended family camp for 6 yrs and even mom learned to roll a kayak!

We first searched for an overnight camp where my kids could unplug from the ubiquitous technology in their lives and just be kids for a few weeks. We choose Mondamin and Green Cove based on reputation, history, non-sectarian, etc. We initially worried about them being away for 5 weeks. Making the decision to send them for the first time will be one of the best parenting decisions we've ever made - independence, confidence, self-discovery, pure outdoor fun, all things that became dramatically apparent when we picked them up after the first summer. They were buzzing all year waiting for the next summer. My kids are now lifelong Mondamin and Green Cove fans. Jupiter, Florida

Mondamin has been one of the best life experiences for both of my sons. They started when they were 9 years old - my first went for 5 years and is now considering being a counselor. My second son will be returning for his 8th year and as an aide. They both have made life-long friends and have grown into confident, adventurous, outdoor loving, responsible teens partly from their amazing experiences at Mondamin. My second son began as a quiet, shy kid who learned to "put himself out there" - he now has the confidence to speak to anyone and has learned numerous skills, white water kayaking and canoeing in particular, that he will enjoy his whole life. My first son is still a mountain climber and loves people. The staff is nurturing while promoting self-sufficiency and the facilities are a dream in the mountains that are especially great for "city kids"! From dancing the Virginia Reel to fellowship and self-realization - priceless!

I can't explain how much I love this camp. This summer will be my 6th year going to camp Mondamin. Mondamin taught me three things that no one else can really teach you like this camp does: perseverance, hard work to achieve high goals, and friendship. How I think you know a good camp is at the end nobody wants to leave; at Camp Mondamin nobody wants to leave. At Camp Mondamin. you will make life-long friendships with other campers and the counselors. One of the best things about Camp Mondaimin is the large number of different activities you can do. The best part is you do the activities when you want to and not when told to. The leaders of this camp are Frank (retired), Andrew, Robert, and Aubry. If your son goes to Camp Mondamin, I can guarantee you when he comes back, he will say: "Can I go back?" This Camp will be a part of you for the rest of your life.

My son had an amazing first year experience. Upon picking him up on the last day, told us he wanted to stay for three weeks next time. He has worked odd jobs around the neighborhood in order to fulfill his offer to pay for part of camp if he can stay longer. We had sent our son to "sleep away" camp before and never had such a positive reaction. The activities that he completed were amazing--his words--and he was exposed to so many different experiences. We are happy to be sending him back this year. It is an amazing place,

I'm a parent of a Mondamin camper. Our 10-year-old son will be back at Mondamin for his 3rd summer this year, and he's already counting down the days until camp begins. He has attended the 3-week session in June each year and will do that session again this summer. He'll likely move up to the 5-week camp the next summer. My husband attended Mondamin as child, so we were excited for our son to follow in his footsteps, but we were nervous to send our son away the first year. He absolutely loved his experience and begged us to sign him up for the following year! Every year his counselors are outstanding role models, he has made great new friends from around the country, and he comes home with a new sense of self and independence. He tried new activities at Mondamin and now is an avid mountain biker. If you're looking for an amazing camp for your son, Mondamin is the place for you.

I am a current 8 year camper. I love this camp with a passion! The staff are helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I love all their activities especially the canoeing/kayaking program. This camp teaches kids to not compete against others, but against their own goals and passions. The camp is excellent at providing help with goal setting, reaching, and help along the way. This camp has literally changed my life forever (for the better) and has really benefitted my character and confidence outside of camp. I truly LOVE Camp Mondamin and appreciate all the great things it has taught me!

Both of my sons have attended since they were old enough (and my daughter attends the girls' camp). Every year they leave ready to go back and with an incredible sense of self-confidence and independence. Staff is supportive, activities are wide enough in variety that they can always find something they like to do or something new to learn - and they are encouraged to try new things - and I LOVE that there are NO electronics. I have worked there a number of summers as the camp doctor as well - they are in great hands between the counselors, the two nurses and a physician available when needed. It has really been a wonderful experience for my kids and is well worth the money and letting them go for a few weeks. I did read the couple of negative comments below and am incredibly surprised - never heard of anything like that happening and can't imagine the directors responding in anything but a positive manner to a concern.

Mondamin was the best thing that ever happened to me as a kid. I spent 5 summers there and I was the 3rd generation to do so. Mondamin will teach your son many things and he will also grow from his experience. The paddling program is excellent also! When you meet experienced paddlers on the river, if you mention you learned to paddle at Mondamin, they will know that you know what you are doing.

My 3 kids are 3rd generation Mondamin/Green Cove campers. There's a reason a good 10 of my relatives kept coming back. It's simply a very nice spot that's extremely difficult to replicate. They have a culture of teaching kids highly skilled outdoor activities that has been passed on from generation to generation for around 80 years. The kids are only limited by how far they want to learn. It's an old time philosophy of giving kids a lot of responsibility but being there to coach them and catch them if they fall. That is confidence inspiring, and on the whole, the camp is a life altering experience. My kids absolutely love it and aim to be counselors one day soon. With regards to bullying, I was bullied at camp, kept quiet about it like boys do, and was counseled by "Chief" (man who started the camp) the next summer when he found out. Bullying is endemic to boys of this age. It is not specific to any one camp. Unfortunate reality. In general, the boys&counselors are top notch. Thumbsup!

My son has attended Mondamin for 4 years and can't wait for his 5th year. I've been impressed with both the skills of the staff as well as their ability to serve as roll models for the boys. The camp is set on a gorgeous lakefront property which allows the boys plenty of room for canoeing, sailing, riding, mountain biking on property. But surrounding the camp are literally thousands of acres of pristine wilderness, mountains and rivers, and Mondamin takes full advantage of this beautiful park and wilderness areas through their mountaineering, climbing, and paddling programs. While there are probably hundreds of camps within a short drive of our home in New York, we chose to drive our children to Mondamin (and its sister Greencove) for the outstanding program and value.

We think camp tuition is the best money we spend all year. Our son, now 9, has had two fantastic summers at Mondamin. His experience at camp has definitely built both outdoor and life skills that will benefit him for life. Mondamin has the finest staff anywhere- they do a great job of leading an incredibly adventurous camp program while also emphasizing safety and good character. They understand how to motivate and encourage boys, whether it's climbing a mountain or cleaning up a bunk. Our son was talking about next year on the drive home.

My son is eleven and has now been to Mondamin twice. The first year he went to the 3 week camp and he had so much fun he went for 5 weeks the next summer and he can't wait to get back this year!! He loves it there! He has learned so many things that he would not have had the opportunity to be involved in otherwise. As a parent that sent their child away to camp for the first time, it's great. They keep you very well informed of how your child is doing and what they are involved in and what activities they enjoy the best by weekly emails. We have only had positive experiences with Camp Mondamin an would recommend it to anyone looking for a summer camp for their son.

My two sons (ages 10 and 7) went to Mondamin for the first time last year. The younger one was, I think, the youngest guy at the camp. I was impressed by the camp's adventurous agenda. This isn't just playing basketball and capture the flag. My sons got way into sailing and took responsibility for their own adventures on the lake. They also loved the menagerie of farm animals. The overnights are fantastic, especially for kids with parents like me who aren't exactly great campers. Most impressive to me was the ability of the staff and directors to understand just what young boys will think is REALLY great. Things like diving for cans of soda at the bottom of the lake, or getting doused with chocolate syrup from the hayloft. They could have done better encouraging my younger son keep his feet dry and things like that, but overall the experience was very positive. We will return this summer.

Mondamin has been an outstanding and life-altering experience for numerous members of my family and now, for both of my sons. Our family has been associated with Mondamin since my father (now 81) was a camper and later a counselor. What is the secret? The camp values are solid and staff works hard to nurture and develop in each child a sense of accomplishment, regardless of athletic ability or inclination. For me personally, the camp experience (at the sister camp, Green Cove) was one of the top three or four most important influences in my life.

My son was determined to go to a sleep away camp, so we signed him up for a 5 days intro camp. He absolutely loved it and the first thing he said when we got him - "I want to come back for 5 weeks". The variety of activities was excellent, he kept busy and came back with so many experiences. He only wants to come here for summer - and had no complaints at all. The attention of the administration was excellent - and everything was smooth. Would highly recommend to others.

My 2 boys attended the camp Summer 2012 and Summer 2013. I have to say we had some problems after 2012 but spoke with the owner and felt that it was all taken care of. To my dismay Camp 2013 was really bad. Both my sons things were stolen both years. I was told that kids at this camp do not do these things. Inappropriate behavior happens in the cabins such as explicit sex talk in terms of positions and moves etc... and when your child speaks out to the counselor or head counselor they become the target. So many things went wrong this past Summer it is unforgivable. To top it all off once they were aware that we were not returning we received a nasty letter from the owners of the camp (addressed to my kids) of why one child can no longer attend. He's my child that speaks up if inappropriate things are happening. He may have been only 12 but my kids know right from wrong. Obviously this camp does not care to correct their problems. They did not protect my kids! Hope you shut down!

My son just returned from the two week August session at Mondamin and had a great experience. He seems to have matured and gained independence even after just two weeks. He is extremely eager to return for a longer session next summer. Highly recommended.

I had my first year here (at the 2 week camp) with 3 of my kids. 2 boy( 7,10) and one girl (9) at green cove. They. All had a great summer and all are coming back. Got a great rec from a friend of mine amd worth every penny. It's a family focused camp with no frills and builds on kids confidence and independence. This is a camp that brings the old school you and your kids will crave.

My son had a horrible experience. The counselor in his cabin had no control over the kids. Kids stole my son's disposable camera and took pictures of their private parts as a supposed "prank." The counselor destroyed it thank goodness. Then the kids stole his second camera and did it again. Second camera was destroyed as well thank goodness. My son said he would walk through camp and kids would randomly punch him in the gut. We received a letter home from our son about how great camp was but he said he wished kids wouldn't steal his stuff -- bug spray, soap, shampoo, etc. When I complained to the Director, he said he didn't believe my son's reports about bullying and said my son was the "odd man out" in his cabin. I wrote back that I was proud he was the odd man out. The camp used to be excellent. It did provide my son an important life lesson that he did not have to join or go along with bad conduct in a group. But his experience was horrific. And the Director of the Camp is in denial

I am a Mondamin Alumni from 1974. I am sending my two kids there next summer. My son to Mondamin and my daughter to Green Cove. We stopped in for a visit this summer and the camp is exactly as I remember it and still run by the Bell family, now in their 3rd generation running the camp. They are a special family and Mondamin and Green Cove is a special place.

This is my son's 3rd year attending Mondamin.... and he has loved it every year! He is always excited about returning, and usually can't sleep the night before camp... because he is so excited... as a mom, that makes you feel good! I know he is well taken care of while he is there, while at the same time getting out of his comfort zone. When he returns home, I always notice how much he has grown in maturity and self reliance. He has become much more confident about trying new things as well. I would definitely recommend this camp (and have!), to friends and family!

My son went to Mondamin for 2 weeks and the first thing he said when we picked him up was..."Can I come back for 5 weeks next year?"
The cabins are very rustic - and isn't that how camp should be? The food is great, from what he said. Overall, this was the greatest experience. He had the chance to do everything he wanted to learn. Rock climbing, sailing, paddling and of course, overnight camping trips.
Mondamin uploads pictures everyday, so you really get a sense of how much fun the boys are having. Yes, its expensive, but worth it!

We sent our son there for the first year and he could not have had more fun and growth. The programs are all set up for self motivational learning. He was out on a 3 and 4 day rock climbing trip in the first 3 weeks. A great change from the winning driven athletic culture and techno world he is in at home.

This will be our son's third year at Mondamin. Last year we offered him the choice of visiting Walt Disney World or Camp Mondamin. Without hesitation he picked camp. They offer lots of outdoor activities and no electronics! Whatever level of adventure your child wants they can find.
