great facilities, fun staff, good food, cool traditions. Pipestone is given a great deal of care making sure it is safe and fun for everyone, and I simply think it's cool. Nuff said.

While the camp is very spread out and honestly kind of ugly (parts are still used as a Christmas tree farm),the facilities are all new and well maintained. The ranges could use some work and they could use a pool/climbing tower. While the waterfront is nice for boating activities, the swimming lake is disgusting. Personal attention is severely lacking. The staff focus far too much on simply passing kids in their badges and their own social lives instead of teaching our kids and making a personal connection. They are devoting their whole summer to bettering you though, so I will give 3 *'s. As far as activities go, they are fee and far between. The entire week is geared towards their Pipestone ceremony, and my son was ostracized for not enjoying it. Monetary value is poor as well. They pack more campers into each week and charge more. Economy of scale should enable them to put on a better camp program, but it hasn't yet. My kid 's troop may go elsewhere after this coming summer.

Where to start. We switched to seven ranges in 2012 after going to manatoc for many years. Going into it we knew that it was a slightly different atmosphere so we were especiallyopen to new things. When we got there, check in was far superior to Manatoc, much faster. They have a greater selection of merit badges but that's where the positives end. The rules were very strictly enforced and they expect everyone to know their customs and traditions even if you are a new troop. The bigger issue we have is the Pipestone ceremony on fridays. I wouldn't be shocked if I learned it was actually a cult. What 40-60 year old men running through the woods beating children has to do with scouting is beyond me. After 4 years we can't take it anymore and are going back to Manatoc. We don't know what the new management is like but if it's as bad, at least the adults can deal with it. We can't lose anymore kids to pipestone. (4 have left our troop in as many years)

Pipestone Ceremony is abusive and hazing. Google "pipestone ceremony" for more information. As a parent, I sent my son there and regret it. The council has accepted this for many years. There are many better scout camps that don't have this kind of sanctioned abuse and activity...go elsewhere.

This camp is great. I am going for my 5th year pipestone award and I love this place. While the latrines are horrid (which never change anywhere) they built an indoor bathroom for you wimpy campers. Some people complain about the pipestone ceremony, saying its abusive and things like that. If you actually paid attention to the programs they have, you would realize why. It is to convince the younger kids. And nothing about it is abusive. There is no hazing. And those who think it is hazing need to look up the definition of it. the staff is another debate. It really is up to the campers to set the staffs mood. I have had grumpy merit badge counselors, they had good reasons to be grumpy. The only bad thing about this camp is it isn't closer to where I live. I'm not in the buckeye council. I drive an hour or two to get there.

First of all, I am going to say our troop stays in outpost camp (calumet), and we are not in Buckeye council.I am going to 7 Ranges this year to get my 4th year pipestone award, and so far, the past three years have been a blast. The staff are mostly nice, and if you have any problems with them, the person in charge of them will make sure it doesn't happen. Every year I look forward to attending summer camp, and I do this year. One problem I have is the renovation they are doing to the camp. When our troop went for good turn this year, they completely destroyed the trail from main camp to outpost, and they damned the river. I heard we might need to be re-located, which upsets me. Overall, this is a great camp, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Hopefully 4th year pipestone goes great!

Spent 7 summers (00-06) at 7R. I have also spent time, week long programs, and high adventure at local camps including Manatoc, Beaumont (Home Council), Tinnerman, and 1 Jamboree in 2005. 7R provides a well versed program tartgeting all ages. The facility is excellent and from what I have seen they added and upgraded many areas since my time there. The staff is well knowledged and dedicated to the camp. Not saying everyone is perfect or there werent any bad apples, and over the coarse of the weeks they may get a little burnt out. Only had one issue with one staff member in 7 years and it was addressed appropriately by management. Not a summer goes by were I dont wish I can be at the Waterfront, Dining Hall, or back in our campsite working on my pipestone requirements. Can't wait for the day were I can send my son to 7R for some great memories. -Matt M, Eagle Scout & Holder of a 5 Year Pipestone.

7 Ranges is just an 'ok' camp. Pipestone Ceremony is used for retention, but is hazing and secretive...borderline abusive. Complaints are looked into by pipestone graduates, not outside officials. Pipestone "honors program" is the only thing special about this camp, otherwise, I'd recommend other scout camps. Merit badges are ok, but minimal effort = completed badges.

The Camp itself isn't too bad, other than Lake Don Nasty. The Summer Camp is horrible. The staff pays little attention to the Campers and act like they don't even enjoy their job. Definitely just doing it for the paycheck. The food is bad. Shoe leather roast beef is the worst. The facilities actually aren't bad. The admin building is nice, the campsites are clean, and the dining hall is beatiful.

Staff acts like they just go through the motions. No personal attention whatsoever. Nice dining facility, but the food sucked. Activities were few and far between besides merit badges and the Friday cult they call "pipestone." Not worth the $260

Seven Ranges has deep roots in tradition and that's what makes it unique. The facilities are older but very well maintained. The dining hall is a work of art. After this year this is a 20 million dollar renovation plan for the camp. The staff is helpful but can be very lientent in the field of merit badges. There are plenty of activities to participate in such as mile swim, hutches run, cope, and many more. Meals are fun and have plenty of things going on. The trading post is well run and has plenty of events going on through out the week. Then to top off a great week there is pipestone. Aside from what you may if heard about pipestone it is a very well run event and exciting for all involved. It is the reason this camp has the highest ruturner camper rate in the nation. Troops come from as far as South Carolina to experience this camp and there is good reason why.

Large camp. Staff is very full of themselves and belittle scouts instead of helping them. Nice dining hall. Whole week is geared toward pipestone - scouts left out if they don't go for pipestone (not cool). Choose somewhere else if you want the focus to be on the scouts and not on the ones in charge. Pipestone is a questionable program - google it.

Seven Ranges is an expansive camp with plenty of room to grow and plenty of land and woods for scouts to explore and enjoy. The camp staff tries their best and are always willing to help out. there are plenty of activities and freedoms at camp to keep you busy all week if you wanted to! good meals, traditions are strong, discipline and self motivation are taught. trading post, waterfront, outdoor skills, handicraft all fun. you could even take a hike on miles and miles of hutch's trail and see everything camp has to offer. pipestone a great program. i suggest this to everyone!

This is a camp that I attended for 5 years as a candidate for the Pipestone and another 5 after to help other scouts. Though many previous raters have said there is too much emphasis on the Pipestone program, it is a program that encourages involvement from generations of scouts past offering years of advice and plenty of encouragement for scouts to want to finish merit badges and rank requirements on their own. It encourages scouts to take on personal responsibility and rank progression as a personal goal. I can't say enough about what a great program, camp honors ceremony, and activities this camp has to offer.

This camp continues to provide the great programs and traditions of the Buckeye Council. Their camp honors program, Pipestone is second to none and has been providing campers a unique challenge and experience for over 80 years. Great dining hall traditions and programs. The 900 acre camp and 40 acre lake provide many with opportunities to enjoy. Dedicated staff and volunteers make the programs one of the best. Many troops from all over the country return year after year. Check it out.

I recommend 7ranges to any troop for both kids and adults. I have been going now for six years and the pipestone camp honors program is very prestigious and a great time. The staff are wonderful and each week always has a great program. I will continue to go there at least 1 week every summer.

Summer Camp Program is the best I've ever seen. The troop tried out this camp for the first time in summer of '88 and we have been going every summer since. The staff is second to none, beautiful facilities with out taking away from the outdoor experience. There is always something to do. The 5 year Pipestone camp honors program is based off of more than 80 years of tradition-it is incredible! It is a one week resident camp, open 7 weeks out of the summer. Contact buckeye council @ buckeyecouncil.org. Try 7R this summer! I guarantee you will not regret or forget it!!!
