Literally the best camp ever!!! Everyone is so welcoming, the counselors are great, the food is amazing and the activities are fantastic!!! You have so much choice of what you want to do and where you want to go, it really makes you feel like you are in control and that you are an adult. They have changed the tribe names so that there is no more cultural appropriation, so no need to worry about that!! SEND YOUR DAUGHTER HERE IF YOU WANT HER TO HAVE FRIENDS FOR LIFE!!:)))))))))

What ever you do, do not attend this camp. It is a haven for bullying and serious racism and cultural appropriation. They force you into "tribe" that are real native american groups and make you sing chants. There are totem poles everywhere made by LITs instead of native american people. When i tried to stand up, i gor shunned and called tribeless by the girls. On top of that they had some serious medical neglect. I got injured, almost broke my toe and the director gor angry and yelled at me, she made me run even though i was in tears. Do not sendnyour children to this camp. Its been almost a year and i still get nightmares from it.

Not a good environment. Years ago run by Mrs. Little and not a good expeience. Campers were rude and unkind and councelors hard to come by.

Everyone was so nice there. making the video was really fun. the only thing i didn't like was leaving. i was sick and i still enjoyed it. the food was really great especially the desserts. my favorite dessert was strawberry shortcake. i loved it a lot.drama was really exiting. fun!!

A lot of people are saying that the toilets smell bad, well they are not gonna smell like frickin Febreeze. I think people are just hating because they have gone for one year and didn't like a few things. I love Mi-a-kon-da with all of my heart. I have gone their for many years and this summer will be my seventh year. Sometimes you may fight with your tentmates, but everyone fights with their friends once in a while, so to put that as a complaint, is pathetic. The food at Mi-a-kon-da is amazing. If you come as a new camper I can promise that the activities will be fun and enjoyable. I can't express how much I love this place. If you are contemplating whether Mi-a-kon-da is a good place for you, it truly is... COME JOIN THE FAMILY many people love and rated this place well don't pay autention to the haters!!! FOREVER LOVE MI-A-KON-DA <333333

Never in my life have I been bullied more than when I attended this camp. I once witnessed one camper throw her tent mates stuffed animal in the compost toilet. The campers as well as counsellors are cliquey and will single others out to fit in and gain attention. The activities are decent, my only complaint would be the freezing cold lake we were to swim in every day. I myself enjoy swimming and water activities but the water was unbearable at times. The washrooms are compost toilets and I remember once entering a stall and being sick due the stench. I would not recommend this camp.

I love Miakonda. It is a beautiful place and I love the unique island feel. Girls that attend Miakonda become confident and successful adults. The activities are great, as well as the staff and food. I also like that it is a rustic camp and has comfortable but not fancy accomodations. The canoe trips are outstanding too. Can not wait to send my own daughter (s) one day.

I have been at this camp for 12 years, and I have has a wonderful time growing up with all the great girls there. Mi-a-kon-da was the perfect destination for my childhood adventures, and now, working there, I get to help the new campers enjoy their summers just as much as I did.

This camp is a beautiful place, full of fantastic people. It has made me the confident person I am today. I can honestly say wouldn't be same without the memories and friendships is has provided me with. The staff was always incredible, competent and fun. I still think of my camp idols often. Now, as a staff member myself, I try not to waste one minute of my summers at camp and work hard to help give campers the kind of love and confidence Mi-A-Kon-Da gave me. One of my favourite things to do at camp fires is to look around at all the amazing, beautiful, talented girls fortunate enough to return to this place year after year. I hope your daughter will love it as much as the rest of us!

I attended this camp for years as camper and staff. The first summer, I had been to multiple other overnight camps with little success, so was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The levels system used at each activity allows each camper to strive for a particular goal and not be roped into a series of activities she is not comfortable with. The food is well-prepared and plentiful, the activities are rugged but safe, and the ratio of campers to staff is approx. 4:1. Campers are under constant supervision regardless that the staff do not live under the same roof, which then provides the campers with the opportunity to build their independence. The camp is expensive, yes, but as someone who attended for years, I saw the funds go towards improvements of facilities, boats, daily supplies, and new developments around the camp, like the addition of the climbing wall. There is a large returning camper population, so new girls should expect a short adjustment period, you know how girls are.

Camp Mi-A-Kon-Da is a wonderful environment for girls. Girls are given incredible one-on-one attention from counselor staff and are encouraged to take risks and try new things, becoming independent and strong. The friendships made at Mi-A-Kon-Da last a lifetime, and the memories are ones you will always cherish. The summers I spent on Birch Island stand out in my memory as the best of my life. Sending your daughter to this camp is the best decision you could possibly make.

Our daughter suffered bullying by shunning/ostracism, carried out by a girl in her tent group who had attended the camp for more years. We informed the director of what had happened to our daughter, and did not get much in the way of a response. The director ended up hiring the bully as a counsellor!!

it's home. it's the best place i've ever set foot on. it brings me to tears thinking about how magical and unbelievable this island is. all those girls leave their egos at home and are SO genuine and hilarious and fantastic that i wish i could stay there all year round. if anyone has the slimest chance of going, you have to. it'll be the best experience of your life. it's physically rugged but emotionally warm and the staff are phenomenol, not to mention the food's soooo good. i can't even begin to stress how magical this islands is.

This camp is a completely unique experience, with a gorgeous island as its backdrop campers get to choose from a variety of camp activities. From swimming, to rock climbing, to archery, to windsurfing...there is something for everyone. The staff are knowledgable and have been attending the camp since they were campers, so you know they love it and want to make others share in their love of mi-a-kon-da. Canoe trips are my favourite part, followed by EP!! I can't wait to come back to camp as a CIT one day!!

I seriously dislike this camp. The toilets are gross and most of the councelors are all buddy-buddy with the kids that were there longer. You basically get ignored by everyone, and the food is mediocre at best. I have been going for 4 years now, and I can't figure out what has posessed me to go each year. The staff seems oblivious to the bullying that goes on, and I absolutely cannot STAND all of the bouncy preps who get waaaaay to hung up on the tribal trophy.
