4/16/14   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going to camp Tawingo for 8 incredible summers. This summer I will be a TLC and i could not be more excited. This camp is honestly a home away from home. The staff are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. I have never once been unhappy at this camp and I have always felt included. I am not the average tawingo camper (spoiled toronto girl), but it doesnt matter because everyone becomes best friends. I met my best friend at camp and am so thankful for that. This camp has so many amazing traditions. Native Council is truly magical, and there is nothing better than the ray marinko relay. The facilities are homey and comfortable and the food is overall very good. I am a vegetarian and I find the food to be excellent. I can not speak highly enough of this camp because it is truly my favourite place. It has helped shape me into the person I am. The camp is unlike any other camp because it is truly the best. I promise you will love it! RID: 47210

9/25/11   5     5     5     5     5   Hello! My name is Patrick and I have been a 3rd session camper for 7 years. I honestly think that Camp Tawingo is the greatest thing I ever tried! I can't imagine a summer without seeing all of my awesome camp friends that are there for the same reason I am... ANOTHER AMAZING YEAR AT CAMP! I was reading a bunch of these ratings are noticed that some people didn' t have great things to say about camp. I also noticed that almost every one said they went multiple years ago. And that the programs were kinda boring and the out trip was boring and you shouldn't go past 11 years old... WHAT? The best time to be a camper is when you are 13+. In Cayuga and Algonkin, you take a bus out to Algonkin park for a 3 night out trip. Some of my fondest memories from camp are on out trip. And the programs... boring? WHAT? Honestly, I think the only way they could get better is if everybody who has a bad attitude towards programs just wasn't there. Camp Tawingo is worth every penny! Trust a camper! RID: 36974

Click to report rating    3/28/11   5     5     5     5     5   As a parent, I would recommend this camp to anyone. The camp, with its amazing staff and counselors, have shaped my two children to become confident/self-assured young adults. Every summer that they return home, they have grown physically, mentally, emotionally. Given a choice between a family holiday and sending kids to camp...? yes a family holiday would appear to make more sense, but that type of vacation doesn't grow/shape kids like Camp Tawingo. Three weeks of unplugged learning, songs, play, steeped in 50 years of tradition...out-of-doors in a safe/supportive environment. It's no wonder my kids can't wait til next summer. Truly, this is the best opportunity I will have ever given them. Thank you Tawingo. RID: 35464

3/24/10   5     4     5     5     5   This summer coming up will be my 10th summer. Camp Tawingo is the bessttt camp ever and it has taught me and shaped me into the person I am today. I went on the Wilderness Journey and met some of the most amazing people on it. The staff are so fun and you are not judged poorly by anyone there. This camp is definetly better if you actually get into the programs, which even as a 16 year old i still love. RID: 32457
Click to report rating    12/23/08   4     3     3     3     4   I used to go to Tawingo and have some good memories from it. The out-trips weren't fun (getting sick and finding a big knife on the camp site). Interest groups were pretty boring after awhile. Activities were either good or bad. The food was really good, the counselors were nice. But they're seemed to be some people who judged you based on what you wear. And there is always one mean girl. I'd recommend it for 9-11 year old kids, but not past that. RID: 28133
Click to report rating    9/25/08   5     5     5     5     5   wow tawingo, the best thing in my life. staff, are cherry, so what i love them they are cool and down to earth, as long as you are. facilites are great, of course its no muskoka woods camp (resort), but thats not camping anyways. i have been there for 5 summers, and i still have not done everything, there are so many activities. and for all those who think its for little kids.... yeah your right, honestly playing plane crash or cammandos in the dark forest, is the best part. it is kiddish but who cares. and outtrip is amazingggggggggg <3. the food is great, the only downside is that you only get water with your meals.... but oh well, i guess if thats the worst thing about the food then its not all that bad. sure it may cost a lot, but considering how much you get i think its a pretty great deal. remember, camp wont be fun unless you get into it. sure there are lots of city kids like me, but we can get down and dirty to..... hahah and p.s. if you bring food - animals wont come!! trust m RID: 26727

Click to report rating    5/3/08   5     5     5     5     5   OMG I think anyone who doesn't totally LOVE Tawingo is really spoiled and/or stupid. for sure it's going to be the best time of your life everything there is perfect so to all the paranoid people out there TAWINGO ROCKS!!! Click to report rating    4/27/08   5     4     5     5     5   Camp Tawingo is a awesome camp! From the fun activities planned,to the amazing meals everything at Tawingo is great! At the end of the camp session I leave hoping next year will come quickly so I can come back! I will warn you now, this camp is not a 5 star resort (and all camps should not be like this anyways!). At camp Tawingo, you will get a true camp experience. You learn many new things each day and have fun doing them as well! Camp Tawingo is where I have made some of my greatest memories and friends! Before you even think twice choose Camp Tawingo and I promise you will not be disappointed! :) RID: 22722

Click to report rating    11/9/07   4     5     2     5     4   Pretty good. Went for 3 years...but intrest groups? wtf i hate them so much, the day is too structured there RID: 16927
Click to report rating    11/4/07   5     5     5     5     5   camp tawingo is the best camp i have ever been to. all you losers who say this camp is even a little bad can go and screw yourself. seriously. and the person who said that good luck fitting in if your are middle class or lower, you are probably just an idiot, and are rude and mean, and that is why no one likes you, cause that does not explain my cmap at all, so you can go to a dumb camp, where there are coachroaches on the floors and you can get food poisoning from the grosse food, and you can die cause the hospitality staff arent good enough, cause no one wants you at this camp, cause it is the best ******* cmap i have ever been to, and anyone who thinks otherwise can go and screw themself. and everyone who likes this camp, LOVED IT. so you can go off to your crappy summer camps if you dont like this one, and leave it for the people who wont take it for granted, and love it with their heart and soul. peace out, i love tawingo.... I LOVE YOU TAWINGO! RID: 16753

Click to report rating    10/2/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is a time of new beginnings and making new friends. I had a lot of fun at camp. I never forget what I learn there. I never want to leave when I get there. The counselors are the best. My brother is one of them. Though all parts of camp are fun, my favorite would have to be the Ray Marinko Relay. With all the canoeing and swimming and running it is insanely fun. The first time I participated was the most fun I have ever had. Every part of this camp is fun. From the day I leave at the end of the session to the day I go back the next summer, I miss being there. THIS CAMP IS THE BEST! :) RID: 15772
Click to report rating    9/26/07   4     5     5     4     4   Had a great time at Tawingo, and it prepared me completely (and then some) for counselling at other camps in Ontario that are far less expensive or equipped. Looking back it all was great times and fantastic experiences, but there were times when I felt out of place as a middle-class, not-very-athletic, quiet kid. It is camp, though, and you can't expect to be left out of activities. I would warn the older girls (12-16) to be aware that camp is just as trendy as school, even for out-tripping clothes. At that age it also seemed devious and angst-inducing that the counsellors were writing notes home to parents in front of you, without talking to you much at all. That said, the six years I spent at Tawingo were amazing, and I learned campcraft skills that help me to this day, including getting tested in canoeing (which I hated at the time!), as well as getting a true appreciation for native Canadians and the hardships we have placed on their culture. RID: 15621
Click to report rating    8/25/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is utterly the best camp in the world; this is my fifth year and I was in Odawa, my counsellor was Briana and all of the staff are THE BEST! All friendly, funny, and wanting to help. The activities are great, lots of swimming, sports, crafts, and overall fantastic group stuff. You will love this camp if you go. Tawingo rocks! RID: 14480
Click to report rating    8/19/07   5     5     5     5     4   When I was there a while back, I had a really good time. It's an awesome place with loads of great stuff to do. I would definately go back, given the chance. RID: 14189
Click to report rating    8/11/07   5     5     5     5     5   just back from my 7th summer 8th session... there is nothing i can say about this camp other then its abasaloutly amazing and i agree with the person below me... im 16 and you just cant think your too cool for everything, in order to have fun. and you have obviously never been to any other camp if you think tawingo has bad facilities. there is a reason it cost so much think about it; the kayaks, canoes, waterslides, backetball nets, soccer balls, tennis rackets, life jackets, paddles, beds, matresses, buildings, couches, books, games, archery, mini put, driving range, packs, tents, crafts... the list could go on forver.... its amazing and i would do anytrhing to go back next year as a TLC!!! def try out this camp i promis you will loveeee it!  7/28/07   5     5     5     5     5   This is a response to the bad reviews of Camp Tawingo. Tawingo is a camp, not a kids resort. It's cabins are not bad. The roof has been redone. I don't understand the bad rateings. The camp staff became friends, many will get to know you, even if you are quiet. They open up to you, you open up back. There are a lot of activities that seem like they are for little kids. But older kids like myself, who went at 16, learned to loosen up. Have fun singing the songs and playing the games. The camp is not religious at the least. During all chapel mornings you never use "God" or see a cross or any religious symbols. We sang songs like "Lean on Me" and "You've got a friend in me". The kids who go to the camp are generaly wealthy big city kids, I could not relate to their lives but you cant let that get in the way of great friendships. They get dirty like the rest of us. The food is usually bad. but again its camp. Everyone lives. I would give up my 2nd born to go back next year. RID: 13370
Click to report rating    7/20/07   5     5     5     5     5   I stay at camp tawingo for 1 session each summper i just got back today My counsaler was spencer omg i miss camp so much already CAMP TAWINGO IS THE BEST RID: 13160
7/20/07   2     1     2     1     1   Do not let their amazing website fool you. This place was disgusting to say the least. The restrooms and showers were not clean by any means and discouraged people from using them. The staff has a tone suitable only for very young children (ie 4-6 years old). The food was despicable. WARNING: This camp is religious!!! The activities were however, acceptable, archery, every field sport (football, soccer, etc) tennis, canoeing, etc. On the whole, the experience was not an enjoyable one nor is it recommended for others. RID: 13136
Click to report rating    7/15/07   5     5     5     5     5   i LOVE camp tawingo. the staff are great, and who cared if the staff are to cherry they are just trying to let you have the best camp experience. the food is awsome compaired to other camps.... no camp food is as good a the food at home. and sure the camp is very expencive but you get more than your moneys worth. the facitilies are clean, especially the cabins and the washrooms. also the best time of all is outtrip. it is so much fun no matter what anyone says. i am going back for my 5th year in around 6 days and i couldnt be more excited! RID: 12990
Click to report rating    4/27/07   5     5     5     5     4   Camp Tawingo has been the best time of my life! This is my 6th year and i am still excited to see whet new things have come about!! Its just a loving family enviroment with lots of great activities. Its very expensive thought! RID: 10211
Click to report rating    1/25/07   4     3     4     4     3   I went there on a grade 6 field trip. It was a lot of fun. The cabins were a bit small, and the water was kind of yellowish, but they've got a pretty diverse amount of facilities. The food actually wasn't that bad, except they could've given us juice or pop instead of water all the time. RID: 7202
Click to report rating    1/14/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is the best. The staff are so nice. The really good thing is that they have washrooms and showers in the cabins. The activities are so fun and are very well planned. the money is really worth it. RID: 6781
Click to report rating    10/25/06   1     1     1     5     1   Camp Tawingo. Where do I begin? This was probably the worst god damn vacation I have ever been on. I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't my school's Grade 8 Grad trip. The staff were incompitant (such as Ahmed, Claire, and Bobby). The facilities were awful. Dripping sealings, unclean bathing facilities, and bed made out cardbord. The food was re-used, and the food was not good in the first place. The activities were horrible...if you did what you were suppost to do. We didn't do what we suppost to do, and what we did still sucked. Off course, they payed excellent attention to us; they never got off of our backs! Thank god they didn't sleep in the same cabin as us or we wouldn't have been able to stay up 24HRS a row! And, $250.00 for three days? Rip Off! If you want to go on a good camping vacation, go to The Pinery, or Camp Forest Cliff. Do not waste your money and time on the hell hole that somebody went and named Camp Tawingo. RID: 4317
Click to report rating    8/23/06   5     5     5     5     5   This was the best camp of my life!!! And I also have to say... MmMmMm... Jamie. AND the crazy squirrel that chased Elise is my loverrrr. RID: 2334
Click to report rating    7/16/06   5     5     5     5     5   Oh gosh, I LOVE THIS CAMP. It's absolutely amazing. although its expensive, its totally worth it. I went in the winter time and we got to do so many fun things. The counsellors are extrememly friendly and the bunks are really clean. I go in the summer time too. My 8th year :) and i still love it. RID: 1426
Click to report rating    7/10/06   5     5     5     5     5   Having seen many camps over the years I can say that Tawingo gets top honours. The location is remote but the property is spectacular. With several kilometers of waterfront and an entire mountain there is plenty of room for summer fun. The staff are great too, the camp is broken into circles, 4 cabins/circle, 6-9 campers/cabin. Each cabin has one councilor, and each circle has a Circle Director and anywhere from 1-5 leaders in training. The price is high, but you will get what you pay for. If you are considering sending your child to Tawingo but are unsure, send them for the shortest session and let them decide whether they want to return the next year for a longer period. As for a downside (not really to some) campers will be active while at camp, no sleeping in, no watching TV till 3pm, nothing but outdoor activities. You'll learn camping, nature, and swimming skills as well as play a multitude of Tawingo original games. Camp Tawingo is one of the best camps out there... Enjoy! RID: 1339
Click to report rating    7/3/06   5     5     5     5     5   i can not even explain how amazing this camp is. this is going to be my 6th year and i love it soo much. and what are people talking about, you can do lots of stuff with the opposite gender. and whats wrong with happy staff?? by far the bst camp everrrrrrr.. i met some of my best friends ever there. its so clean and nice! its more like a resort then a camp! RID: 1257
Click to report rating    6/29/06   4     5     5     5     2   Excellent camp, but extremely expensive. Really, nearly two grand is an obsene amount of money for 17 days. granted, the staff and facilities are excellent, but the camp is surely geared towards rich children and families. RID: 1216
Click to report rating    6/20/06   4     4     5     5     5   Good camp this is my 6 year going :). its true about what that guy said about yelling at the cherry counsulers it helps and it really is a good2shoes camp which i really liked when a was younger but now i want to go meet the boys Tip: go to the sports feild lots of boys waiting to meet girls there or go to the watherfront. You can also sneak past kp by going out your back window. :) I LVE TAWINGO RID: 999
Click to report rating    6/7/06   5     5     5     5     5   This is a goody two shoes camp. Everything is good good good. So of course i have to give it all 5s. But id much rather go to a camp where you dont get suspended for going into female cabins. Seriously why on earth would i not wanna go into female cabins im a guy, but its not like id do anything you know. I just wanna talk to girls cant they let us do even tht. And at this camp everything is way way too perfect. The facilities are great; we have a miniput place for gads sake!! And if you seem the least bit unhappy the supercheery staff will try to make you feel better: "Whats wrong?" "Do you want to go inside?" "Wanna do something?" DO SOMETHING???!!! HOW MANY THINGS WILL I DO WITH A COUNSELER??! RID: 709
