Both my boys have attended this camp for the past 3 years. My older son has a strong interest in coding and the camp helped him excel in this area; he does not need much direction, just the basics, and then he can take off. My younger son needs an actual teacher to guide him through. While he has learned some basics, he has not taken off in computer programming the way my older son has. They both love the camp though, and look forward to it yearly. They did not experience any bullying as a previous poster stated, but maybe they were with a different crowd? On the contrary, my boys feel like a part of a fraternity of like-minded boys (and some girls). I attend the talent show every year (I am usually 1 of the only 2 parents there!) and see how close the group is. They present their programs, cheer each other on, and generally it feels like a positive experience. I just wish the teachers were more experienced. Some were excellent, others no. Perhaps better pay can help recruitment.

My son went a year ago and loved it: he had a great counselor and enjoyed it. This year I registered him for several sessions, and things started re-surfacing: older campers bully and harass others online during lab hours when counselors are not looking and curse a lot in front of younger kids. They like to provoke others so they cyber bully others. The camp staff does connect to parents: no updates, reminders or newsletters were ever sent out. This is the only camp that, being on a college campus, does not care about building a community – not of campers, not of their families. Recreationally, campers play capture the flag or tag but never play any real games, be it soccer, basketball, volleyball, you name it. Once the campers were playing a game of throwing someone’s dirty shoe to each other and found it entertaining. And that is what I paid over $5K for??? Never coming back to Emagination at Lake Forest.

The staff are not professional. The programs are unorganized. Basically, it is like a daycare for older kids. Not much learning and fun. You have to pay for the materials besides the tuitions. They just give you the materials, and ask you follow the instruction manual from the package. It is not worthy at all.
