This camp is no better than other great camps across Long Island (some of which i attended as a child for half the cost). Families don't have to put up with the phony show from the pierce family and the snobbish parents during pow wow. This camp is completely not worth the cost. While working I saw other counselors pick favorites and spend more time on their phones then with the kids. The counselors are severely underpaid while the Pierce family rakes in $. As a result consolers seem to care less about their work and even despise the Pierce's. One other thing about the horrible staff/Pierce divide is that the pierce family and their closest staff members eat special delivered lunches EVERYDAY while counselors are stuck with poorly cooked kids lunches. Your staff should never be treated this poorly while the Pierces bask like kings. Its really sad to see RID: 50856
Click to report rating    2/8/17   5     5     5     5     5   What a special place. Family run and oriented. Their motto is "Children First" and it shows. My young daughter had a wonderful first summer there and we are looking forward to many more. I see other reviewers have commented that is it expensive, but you get what you pay for! RID: 50419

8/19/11   5     5     3     3     1   My kids loved it when they were young and the counselors have always been very nice. The facilities are beautiful and the pools are great. BUT...When other camps are freezing or lowering their prices, Pierce has shamelessly raised the price every year since my kids have gone for the past 6 years. They are over subscribed and need to bus kids out to go bowling just to give them something to do. That has always bothered me. I can not tell you how happy I am to see my kids move on. Let's face it, sleep away camp is barely more money. I think I'm most excited not to have to look at the Pierce Family fleet of Mercedes out front when I go to the Pow Wow. If you can deal with paying the highest price around while still having to tip EVERYONE, and tolerate the dog and pony show the parents put on during that stinking pow wow that should only be for the first year maybe two, you'll love it. They were good to my kids but I'm SO happy to move on. RID: 36772

3/1/10   5     5     5     2     2   I'll start by saying my kids came home happy most of the time they were there. However, they just have to many kids. They didn't get a turn at bungie till the summer was half over (and I called.) The younger kids dont get to do much during color war because there are too many kids. They just yell cheers for several days. And they waste a ton of time practicing for pow wows. It is a very spirited place but could be better - they need to cutoff enrollment at some point. maybe the recession will help. RID: 32259

Click to report rating    12/27/08   3     2     2     1     1   The staff is pretty good accept some were way to young. The first year I went it was fun but the second and third was terrible. By the end of the third I was beginning to not have to go any more. Plus it is very expensive and some of the kids are really spoiled and snotty. RID: 28181

6/5/08   5     5     5     5     5   When i was younger,(3-8)i went to pierce.the counselors were always extremely nice and would help the kids all the time.all of my friends and i as young kids would always look up to the counselors as role models.the days were always fun filled and packed with action.for lunch, there were always a verity of foods to choose from.pierce had tons of different activities and they even taught me how to swim.all of the adults in charge of the sports were extremely nice and patient with the kids.we always had personal attention and were treated great. every year each division would have a powwow when the parents would come and the kids would perform a dance that they learned.also for the older kids, after the powwpow they had an over night at the camp but if you wanted to go home, they were very understanding and let you call home.since then, i have gone to sleep away camp for 7 years and 2 teen tours which were AMAZING years but i will never forget my great expeirence at pierce! Click to report rating    9/25/07   5     5     5     5     5   Ive been at camp for the last 8 years. it is a great place, very active. The counselers and kids get along great and have a lot of fun. the parents who say that they think its bad camp puts pressure on the kids to be active obviously dont know what they are talking about. Their kids are probably fat like 80% if this country. All the camp is trying to do is make it a better place for the kids. Just because you cant say no to your own child doesnt mean that the camp is to strict. Pierce is a great camp and i highly recommend for all children. RID: 15583
Click to report rating    7/26/07   5     5     5     5     5   As a mother whom attended Pierce as a child. And has the prilivage to send my child as a camper and a student. I have nothing but the most respect. Regarding the cost of this facility you walk onto the campus and see it immediately. you get the quality and respect from the counselors, bus runners,, office staff, bus drivers and directors you need. Unfortunately, life is expensive. There will always be richer and poorer. privilage and unprivilage. Its up to you to determine your values for yourself and children. Spoiled-rich-entiled...It exists you are living in the north shore of long island. Understandings your child needs are the important part and communicating them correctly and respectful them. my needs have always be meet. THIS CAMP IS A WIN WIN all the way around. Hands off to "The Pierce Family". RID: 13312
Click to report rating    7/4/07   1     1     1     1     1   expensive DAY camp, Some of the kids are spoiled and bratty. this camp is for YOUNGER kids mostely under the age of 9 or 10. a lot of the kids are from Long Island and have money. i guess its a good Day camp but for those prices...you might as well send ur kids to sleepaway camp in my opinion RID: 12707
Click to report rating    2/13/07   3     2     4     1     1   Horrible experience. Child was told by other kids "weak kids can't play sports" (not said to my child mind you) and the staff did NOTHING. Too competitive and they forget it's a camp for children, not mini rockefellers. If you have any integrity don't send your child there. Pure poison. RID: 7767
Click to report rating    2/10/07   4     5     5     5     5   i WORKED HERE LAST SUMMER AND I LOVED IT!.THE ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT I HAVE IS I WORKED WITH A GIRL WHO CALLED HER KIDS STUPID AND THAT WAS SOO UNEXCEPTABLE, THE KIDS ARE GREAT KIDS AND I WOULDVE LOVED TO COME BACK IF I DIDNT HAVE AN INTERSHIP THIS SUMMER!bUT THE KJIDS ROCK AND IT WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT RID: 7701
Click to report rating    1/5/07   3     4     2     1     1   The councelors always pick favorites and if your not part of the "in" crowd your just not there to them. Sometimes the councelors can be really disrespectful. There is absolutely no point to the activities. They don't focus on any 1 thing. If you think of going here I would think twice. RID: 6509
Click to report rating    12/1/06   5     5     5     5     5   I went their as a 7,8, and 9 year old and it was great experience. Coming from Flushing Queens out to Roslyn and being involved in activities all day along was great when I could have been doing nothing at home. I will always remember the Pow Wow with the Big Chief and them making rock candy. I'm about to have my first child and I hope to send them there before they go to sleepaway camp. RID: 5553
Click to report rating    10/28/06   2     5     4     1     2   I went to this camp for 10 years.. and i HATED it. It seriously is a bunch of little rich kids, which makes sense since the camp costs like $6000. It has absolutely NO diversity except for the few kids from Queens (myself). The activities are great, but the people, they are the worst. But if you like bratty rich snobs, then this is the camp for you. And the staff, oh please. They only pay attention if you make yourself known. If your shy, be prepared to be unbearably awkward. RID: 4407
Click to report rating    8/30/06   5     5     5     5     5   This camp has been a fixture in Roslyn for over 100 years. Great directors, great facilities. Outstanding! RID: 2627
Click to report rating    8/3/06   5     5     5     5     5   I have been there since I was six years old and now im 17 and I still work there and its not a summer unless Pierce is there! RID: 1786
Click to report rating    6/16/06   5     5     5     5     5   I spent many summers here until I went to sleepaway camp (camp starlight) (which I LOVED) and had a great time- Pierce taught me swim and do many sports. Only bad thing is I never got camper of the week and I did deserve it! :) anyway, I do recomeend this camp to parents. It was very well run. RID: 936
Click to report rating    6/2/06   5     5     3     1     1   Any staff that could put up with the types of parents that send their kids there should receive awards RID: 602
