I went to Kabeyun starting in 1957. I was there for 13 years as a camper and a counselor. My son went as a camper and now has been a counselor for five years. The camp has changed over the years, but still maintains all the core benefits that existed over the years. It still looks like it did when I was there. Adventures still take place, the food is still great, the woods and wood smells are still the same, the lake is still clear, the activities are basically the same, and today thousands of boys and men (and now women) think of Kabeyun as one of the best things that ever happened to us. I came back for the 75th and plan to be there for the 100th anniversary.

There is no better camp in the United States for boys. Great staff to camper ratios with activities chosen daily by the kids with mixed ages. Designed to allow NO BULLYING and competition is discouraged. Positive discipline and talking it out is used to build social and negotiation skills. Exclusively hanging out with siblings or best friends is actively discouraged, with the emphasis on the entire cabin being a unit. No electronics, candy, sugar provide a detox from the rest of the year. Although not specifically designed for special needs (ADHD, ASD), the individual care and excellence make it a safe place for everyone who is reasonably high functioning. There are few 7 year olds, so likely starting at age 8 or 9 is best, and then it will be nearly impossible to prevent returning every year until aging out. At older years, more opportunities for trips off-site allow the camp to grow with the kids.

I went here in the 80's with my 2 brothers. Now my son is in his 2nd summer there. The fondest memories of my childhood were made at Kabeyun. It's truly amazing how many of the kids are second, third and even fourth or fifth generation campers. There is a reason former campers continue to send their kids generation after generation. I would put Kabeyun up against any camp in the world.

My son attended this camp in the 1980s for 4 years. He went for 1 month as a trial and he begged to go back the next years until he was too old. This year his son and Nephew (my two grandsons) are there for the first time and we are greatly impressed that nothing about the philosophy of the camp has changed. It is still the great place it was and hopefully will continue to be so. The Porters really knew what they were doing when they established this camp for young boys and worked to assure that it would continue. The staff is carefully chosen and trained, they are all highly supportive of each boy, the food is wonderful, and one cannot say enough positive words about the activities that the boys can choose for themselves. My son came home a happy and responsible little guy and I am sure that is going to happen with my grandsons. I know my son has never forgotten how wonderful it was and has spoken of his great experiences there ever since.

I have twin boys that are 15 and one will soon be going for his 6th year and the other for his 4th. They love Kabeyun and it is the highlight of their year. It is a very special place where everyone is allowed to grow improve at their own pace with their own interests. There is a real camaraderie within the camp and solid connections are built. My boys have made friends from all over the world. They have also both received generous tuition assistance which is much appreciated as a single mom. I love the camp as much as they do and it has taught them to be cooperative, good citizens, to try new things and have adventures they never would have experienced otherwise. It is great to know they are away from electronics for a whole month and doing the things kids should be in the summer, being active outside. High quality staff, facilities and food!

My son had an amazing time at this camp. The activities were fantastic, and there were lots of outdoor experiences that we are unable to provide during the busy school year. The counselors were kind and attentive, and last year when he arrived for his first time, one of the counselors took him under her wing, found out that he liked soccer and took him to meet other boys to play soccer with. I can't praise this camp enough - he is going back this summer, and his brother will follow him there next year.

incredible camp for boys of all ages. A unique camp with an extraordinary sense of community and family.The activities are plentiful and all of them are very fun. At Kabeyun, you can choose your own activities for the day out of 18 regular activities, plus another 2 or so random activities. I give it 5 stars!!!

I cant say enough about this camp. It has been life changing for my son. If your child is not an " athlete" and or he just needs a break from all the pressure of activities and teams tis is the perfect place. Chuck and Ken are amazing and have surrounded themselves with great caring staff.I wish I could go!

absolutely positive experience for our teen. One month of being a kid having fun instead of the pressures and technology that bombard our kids. Favorite activity - kayaking and he loved the food! Too bad you can't rate this camp higher than good it is outstanding!

sweet camp, staff is nice and supportive, the food is great and you cant beat the activities. Wakeboarding was my favorite this summer.

a wonderfully warm atmosphere and a strong camp culture characterizes Kabeyun. Kids feel a sense of ownership and connection and a sense of safety unusual in our society.

i have been going here since 2003 and did my intern year in 2006...(july of 2006) i rated the staff as one for the sole purpose of the director. he gave up on me and i will forever be scared for that. he said that his goal was to pass on information to a younger generation, and he just let go of me. Most of the staff are awesome, espically in 2006. i refuse to accept the fact that the comodore is caroline. ever. ps. please, if you dont know what your doing, please please dont touch the hobie, its the only one we got

A great thing about Kabeyun is that you get to choose every single activity period you take (there are four every day).
