Click to report rating    4/20/20   5     5     5     5     5   I went to summit camp for 3 years. The first year was the hardest I was rather homesick and it was my first time being away from home this long as 3 week session. However the next year I returned anyway and enjoyed it even more. The activities like go carts, banna boats, basketball, horseshoe, and so many more made this camp enjoyable. I also had many friends during all 3 times I came here. My twin brother went as well the first 2. On my last year here 2019 I would say was the best time I had. I really enjoyed the experience. All the fun acvitives. Counselors are always really understanding of everyone's needs and I even learned how to ride a bike properly for the first time. Shep the owner also has a awesome personality always makes you laugh. Also even the food here is good and well balanced lots of good taste but healthy stuff as well. Totally reccomend this camp to anyone with autism or special needs. The canoe trips are great fun as well! This camp helped me mature and grow. RID: 53192
Click to report rating    11/19/19   5     5     5     5     4   My son has gone to Summit Travel Camp the past two summers with Thea's group, and he loves it. He loves traveling, staying in hotels, and visiting amusement parks especially. Going away to these camps has made him more vocal and accepting of trying new things and new foods. I only wish we lived closer to be able to take advantage of the mini travel camps. Thea is amazing with all of the campers. She has tons of energy and patience. My son is always begging to go on another trip! We love Summit Travel Camp! RID: 52996
Click to report rating    5/28/19   5     5     5     5     5   I love it and I have made so many unforgettable memories with my friends, the food is amazing and the activities are fun. It may have been crappy in the past, but we have a new owner named Shep and he makes the activities different each year. I can’t wait for this year RID: 52645

Click to report rating    5/24/17   1     2     2     1     1   hated it there!!!! tried to tell my mom via postcard how I wanted to go home but the consolers very much tried to get me to right how much I loved it there on my postcards we were forced to write home. the food was awful and even though it was a co-ed camp we never did much with the girls. went to bed way to early and when I wanted to fall asleep with my walkman the staff took it away and yelled at me. Just awful simply awful. Just glad I never went more then 1 Half a summer back in 1989. Shame since I went to the Summit High School in forest hills NY and Loved it graduating n 1993. RID: 50754

1/24/16   5     5     5     5     5   Worth every penny. My son attended for 7 consecutive summers. Each time he came home feeling more confident about himself. He made great friends he keeps in touch with all year. He loves the staff; they all took the time to get to know him, his personality & challenges, and put him into positions of mentoring the new campers. I happen to like the food served to my son, often nutritious with a tip of the toque to kosher. Plenty of pix to show what's going on and put parents' minds at ease. My son is the great kid he is today thanks to the Magic on the Hill. Thanks to Gene, Glynnis, and everyone else who makes Summit run. RID: 49398

12/14/15   5     5     5     5     5   "The Magic on the Hill" truly exists at this camp, they are just words. I have been sitting at my desk trying to find the words to even begin to express what Summit Camp means to our family. From the moment you make contact with the camp you are welcomed into the Summit family. My child says she now has another home and that place is Summit Camp. My child is able to take the all the positive tools and strategies that she learns at camp and bring them back to school and be more successful. I cannot imagine our lives without Summit Camp in it.  12/13/15   5     5     5     5     5   Summit Camp has been the most wonderful experience for my daughter. She has attended camp for 3 summers, each year we sent her for longer periods of time at her request! She is a child that has struggled for years with anxiety, feeling accepted & making and maintaing meanigful friendships. Her summers at camp have changed her self esteem and self worth, tremendously. She looks forward to seeing the friends that she has made at camp. I am so grateful to have found a camp that has the resources to provide her with the tools to learn independence, loving counselers and the much needed structure that my daughter craves over the summer. There is rarely a day that goes by where she does not make some sort of reference to camp. Summit camp is truly magic on the hill! RID: 49336

12/13/15   5     4     5     5     5   My son has attended Summit Camp for the past 5 years. He has learned life skills and the gift of friendships he has never known. The staff has always worked very closely with me to ensure his needs were met and his desire to return each summer was assured. Summit Camp offers my not so typical child the gift of sleepaway camp that he would otherwise not be able to experience. Thank you Summit Camp!!! RID: 49335

5/10/14   3     2     3     3     1   After 3 summers of sending our son to this camp, we felt that the senior camp staff had no idea who we or our son was. The group leaders were great until last summer when the new group leader couldn't take the time to understand our son-they expected him to have been the same as the year before despite our multiple communications about his changing and maturing interests. They don't offer new activities and don't upgrade the facilities. To top it all off, last summer, they gave my son food poisoning and he was miserable for over a week. The camp was good, even for the outrageous price, when my son enjoyed going but after his awful, at best, summer he has no desire to return and we would never send him back. RID: 47301

Click to report rating    10/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   Summit Camp really knows your child and works very hard to provide a positive camp experience in a safe and nurturing manner. My son attended the regular camp for 5 years, and now is part of the summer travel camp...he LOVES it! RID: 46147
Click to report rating    10/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter made friends!! And she has kept them since the summer RID: 46145
Click to report rating    10/17/13   5     5     5     5     5   Our daughter has special needs; this camp has provided her with a social group both during the summer and during the camp reunion weekends throughout the year. She has developed confidence and independence; most importantly, she adores going to camp (and, now that she is older, the travel opportunities have added to the experience in a big way). We are all sad that this coming year will be her final year at Summit, because she is aging out. This camp looks like a regular camp in terms of facilities and activities, but the experience it provides is priceless--and the staff has been uniformly talented and caring. This camp has my highest recommendation. RID: 46136
Click to report rating    10/17/13   5     5     5     5     4   Summit has made such a difference in our son's life. He has gained self-confidence, work experience (as a camp waiter) and life-long friends during his four summers there. We cannot recommend the staff more highly. Every administrator, counselor and specialist takes the time to get to know your child and encourages him/her to maximize their potential. The travel program helps your child broaden his world view and increases independence. And the Weekenders enable the kids to stay in touch with their friends and reinforces the "Magic". Parents, as well as campers, all feel included in the Summit family through frequent communication and camp photos. RID: 46134
Click to report rating    10/17/13   5     5     5     5     4   Summit Camp has been a transformative experience for each of my children. My daughter has made a tight knit group of girl friends that she stays in touch with all year, and looks forward to seeing each summer. These girls are really important to her; they are her community. My son has become much more confident and independent, and ready to venture out into the world as a result of his time at camp. Plus, each of them has just a wonderful time at camp and so much fun. I can't say enough good things about the place. RID: 46133
Click to report rating    8/13/12   5     5     3     5     2   My son DID have good experiences at this camp ... BUT when my son attended a SUMMIT TRAVEL program several years back ... not so good. It was a two week east coast trip that was supposed to included Williamsburg, Busch Garden and a trip to the White House as the highlights. Needles to say, it was also a VERY EXPENSIVE trip! I really upset that NONE of the main highlights actually happened. They "skipped" Williamsburg and Busch Gardens and instead spent the day picnicking at a free state park. When I inquired about the White House they said "someone forgot to make the advance reservation and they could be admitted." WTF?!! They "forgot? REALLY? All in all, they disappointed the kids, duped the parents and failed to return even a penny of the money they saved skipping these expensive highlights. (My son also said the meals sucked as they constantly ate at these cheap buffet restaurants.) My son was bored and I felt taken advantage of. RID: 42343

Click to report rating    3/19/11   1     1     1     1     1   Don't even get me started. I have never been so miserable in my entire life. True i did make a few friends there but the fact that the staff have way too much control over everything that goes on. RID: 35379
Click to report rating    11/30/10   3     5     4     4     4   One thing can definitely be said about Summit: you gain a sense of familiarity. There are hundreds of little quirks and traditions that will keep you reminiscing. (Note: I'm not sure how much of that was lost when Tim died...) As one commenter below said, each bunk seems to come with one jerk counselor and one especially nice counselor, and sometimes the kids aren't too pleasant to be around 24/7 (as with all groups of teens, there are cliques, jerks, and brats); however, my last two years there, I had only great counselors and completely awesome bunkmates, so it can be presumed that either a) things are getting better in those regards or b) they got a good sense of who I am and what types of people to put me with. Activities are all mandatory, but they come in all different flavors; the bunks are rustic, but sturdy. I stopped going because I got tired of the very packed schedules (there is ALWAYS some activity you have to go to), but overall my experience was memorable, in a good way. RID: 34507
Click to report rating    10/8/08   5     4     3     5     3   Summit Camp is a suberb place to spend your summer!!! This upcoming summer will be mine 7th year of attending this fantastic camp! There is no camp in comparison with it, that's why the prices are so insanely expensive! To give a truthful general opinion about the councelors is nearly impossible! Different councelors have different personalities, there is always the ****y, insanely strict councelor, a super sweet one, but that one is also somewhat passive, and lastly there is the nice, but well respected councelor (this is typically the returning councelor). As someone eles pointed out, the councelor will have a lasting relationship with their campers outside of camp. ie. email, or facebook. That does have some truth to it, but not in most cases. To give a more specific, numberic example, out of all my councelors, I probably only stay in contact with 4 or 5. Most of them care during the summer, and not so much during the other seasons. They may say they care, but they really don't!!!! RID: 26931
Click to report rating    9/22/08   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVE Summit Camp! Best camp ever! I was in G12 in 2006, G14 in 2007, and GST5 in 2008. I've had the best counselors and the best friends. My absolute favorite part of all my 3 years at Summit was by far the ST play in 2008. We did High School Musical and I was Gabriella. I loved it! The staff is phenomenal, the activities are so much fun, and the trips are amazing! It may cost $6000 for even half the summer, but it's totally worth it! My friends and counselors are amazing, the staff is great, and I can't wait for the next 3 years. And let's not forget the best UL on camp! Kate Brown, Kate Brown, Kate Brown, Kate Brown, Kate Brown! If you are a parent of a child ages 7-17, who have ADD, ADHD, Asperger's, OCD, or any attention issue, this camp is for you! Don't worry about the price, it's totally worth it! RID: 26670
Click to report rating    6/25/08   5     4     3     5     3   I have to agree the counselors are awesome! They are great role models and advisors to the kids. Many campers develop lasting relationships with their counselors - they and the the attention they provide the youngsters, is the major plus of Summit! That the counselors also enjoy their summer at Summit is so important to maintaining the consistent quality of the supervision at the camp. RID: 24239
Click to report rating    4/7/08   5     1     2     4     1   i went there for about 3 years the camp was prety good made sum freinds there but the bunk houses were prety bad quality beds were to small im 6 foot 7 inches tall. RID: 22047
Click to report rating    8/24/07   3     3     2     3     1   I went here for years, it used to be better but I started getting tired of it. My parents can't believe what it costs. They don't give you space, they even stand outside the door when you go to the bathroom! Some of the staff is nice but some of them are mean like my old unit leader. And they do treat you like a baby & make you go to bed way too early. I tried another camp I like more. Summit isn't a bad place but it isn't that great either. And the food is not that great, sugar-free desserts, yuck! RID: 14414
Click to report rating    6/23/07   5     4     5     2     4   I know this camp is expensive but take into consideration the kind of staff they have to hire to work with these kinds of kids. It is worth every penny to see how your kid benefits from attending a summer at this wonderful camp. These are kids who for the better part of the school year have trouble making friends, have low self esteem and get very little positive feedback. This camp gives them 8 weeks of friendship, support, confidence and independence. I can't say enough about what this camp has done for my son but he has benefitted greatly from it. Thank you Summit Camp for giving my son the best summers of his life. RID: 12370
Click to report rating    5/23/07   5     2     1     5     1   WHILE THE RATIO OF CAMPERS TO COUNSELORS IS 3:1, THAT CANNOT JUSTIFY THE OUTRAGEOUS COST OF THIS CAMP. MY CHILD LOVED THE FOOD, BUT AFTER 4 SUMMERS THERE, BECAME TOTALLY BORED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT UPGRADED THE ACTIVITIES TO STAY IN LINE WITH SOME MAINSTREAM CAMPS AND WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER, SO IF YOU HAVE BEEN SENDING YOUR CHILD FOR A WHILE NOW, THEY WILL BECOME EXTREMELY BORED. THEY NEED TO PUT SOME FAITH IN THESE KIDS AND ADD ACTIVITES THAT WILL CHALLENGE THEIR MIND AND BODY. OTHER MAINSTREAM CAMPS OFFER OUTRAGEOUS ACTIVITIES AT 1/2 THE PRICE. AND, THE OWNERS ARE IN IT FOR THE MONEY FIRST. NO SCHOLARSHIPS OR ANY FINANCIAL AID UNLIKE OTHER CAMPS AND TO EXPECT PARENTS TO SPEND CLOSE TO $12,000 IS INSANE. THEY MOSTLY CARE ABOUT LINING THEIR ALREADY FULL POCKETS, SO WHY BOTHER ADDING MORE ACTIVITIES? THE KIDS ALSO KEEP GOING ON THE SAME TIRED OLD TRIPS WHICH ARE EQUALLY AS BORING AND USUAALLY DON'T FIT THEIR AGE BRACKET APPROPRIATELY. THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT THE DOLLAR VALUE! RID: 11073
Click to report rating    2/5/07   4     3     5     2     1   I have been going to this camp for four years, though I don't usally want to go back to summit camp I end up going because of the great friends I made. I am looking forward to going on their traveling program this summer... RID: 7539
Click to report rating    1/28/07   4     3     4     5     3   A nice camp with a nice staff. The food sucks, but you get that at almost any sleep away camp. It is expensive, but the kids like it. Solid overall. RID: 7305
Click to report rating    12/11/06   4     3     3     4     1   Very expensive for marginal facilities. Best thing is that you won't "get the call" if your child is challenging. RID: 5865
Click to report rating    11/7/06   4     4     4     4     4   Owners just do whatever the **** they want. They are starting camp so early BEFORE school ends this year! WHAT IS WITH THEM??? Do they expect me to miss middle school graduation -- or to miss the beginning of camp? My parents said no way this year. RID: 4707
Click to report rating    11/5/06   5     5     5     5     5   I have been to summit camp for 3 years znd I think it is a good camp although some kids are a little mean it still has very good trips to the wayne county fair, carousel park, and the activities are really fun to they have a banana boat there are also go-karts and a climbing wall and basketball and baseball and tennis all and all it is a good camp. RID: 4592
Click to report rating    10/11/06   5     4     5     5     4   This camp is great, the computer staff are nice, the other staff are nice, the food is OKAY, (could be better), and its full of obnoxious, yu-gi-oh playing kids. So its ok. it could be better (chuck the kids who play yu-gi-oh), but I like it. Its the best camp ever. (compared to some cruddy place I went earlier where some kid kept on playing "mailman" and making "mail" out of my personal belongings by ripping them up and distributing them far and wide across camp. Luckily, the kids at Summit camp are smart, albeit hyper. THIS CAMP RULES!!! RID: 3927
Click to report rating    3/21/06   5     5     5     5     3   Great camp, but really pricey! They make the kids feel amazing...so who can put a price on that? RID: 47
Click to report rating    3/12/06   5     4     4     5     1   Great special needs camp, which the kids LOVE. Kids are HIGH-FUNCTIONING, but most have ADHD, bi-polar or other disorders. There are a few drawbacks for the parents. Obscenely expensive!!! It is as though management is taking advantage of parents with few places to turn. In general, management in NOT very parent-friendly. Despite that, we keep coming back, because the kids thrive there & that is what's most important. RID: 5
