Click to report rating    3/22/14   5     3     5     5     4   Last summer was my child's first experience at VM, and he loved it! It really lives up to it's slogan, "like a going away camp at home." He's too young to go to sleep away camp, but got the feel for it, with all of the tents in the woods. He LOVED the bus ride every day. All of the activities were great and taught in a way that was very encouraging. The counselors are relaxed, patient, and kind, unlike another family owned sports camp which he attended for the prior two years in Rockville. Great experience for us. We'll be back again this summer and have told many friends all about it. RID: 47073

10/7/13   2     4     2     2     2   I don't get the hype. The facilities are fine, nice woods, pretty area, all that, but the camp atmosphere is just bad. It is incredibly competitive, especially as the kids grow older, and if your kid is like my son, around average, not incredibly athletic or particularly unathletic, he will feel completely left behind. It is very obvious from the beginning which kids are going to be 'good' and receive all of the cards (i.e awards for learning certain skills). Also, if you are like us and didn't start off their kid at Valley Mill at the first year possible, your kid will be at a disadvantage socially and in the activities. Most of his cohort had known each other since first grade, making it hard for him to fit in and catch up, as all the cards carried over from the years before. So while his 4th grade cohort was working on emergency flipping of kayaks, he was forced to learn how to paddle the kayak. Maybe if your kid started from 1st grade they would have a better experience, but beware RID: 46081
Click to report rating    6/29/13   5     5     5     4     5   I am a camper at Valley Mill. This is my first summer there. If your camper likes nature they will really love it. You are outside the whole day. There is a creek and they have contests. My favorite parts are kayaking and archery. :) RID: 44927

Click to report rating    9/1/11   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going to Valley Mill Camp for seven years now. It is truly, the best place on earth. I LOVE VMC! RID: 36872
Click to report rating    1/17/11   5     5     5     5     5   I could talk for hours and hours about how incredible this place is. No one group of people or place has shaped me into who i am more than Valley Mill. Any parent who is hesitant to send their child here please take my advice, its worth every penny. RID: 34861
Click to report rating    6/2/09   5     5     5     5     5   Wonderful camp. Best there is. My children have gone to quite a few sleep away camps. They liked everyone but Valley Mill by far for a day camp was leaps and bounds better than the others. If you are looking for great staff and an all around positive experience Valley Mill is it. Click to report rating    12/16/08   5     4     5     5     5   Great camp!!! My children (boy - age 13 and girl - age 11) have been going to this camp for 6 years now. They love it. My son goes for the whole summer as do many of the friends he made at camp. My daughter attends the last three week session. Both are not really outdoorsy types and yet they love this camp and could not imagine not going. It is the kind of camp you either love or hate, but if you love it, you really love it. We have recommended the camp to many people and all the kids enjoy it. Many of the counselors have been there for years and it shows in the way they interact with the kids. There is a real emphasis on safety, which is a good thing considering all the kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing and gymnastics that takes place at camp. I am really pleased with the camp and what my children get out of it each summer. Also, the camp bus picks up and drops off my kids at our house, a real benefit. RID: 28040
Click to report rating    6/16/08   5     4     5     5     4   As an old camper here, I can truly say that this is a great camp to send your children to. Unlike many other camps, Valley Mill focuses on individual children’s needs in a variety of activities and sports. The kayaking program in particular makes this camp stand out, as many Valley Mill kayakers have gone on to be Olympic kayakers. Also, the many other activities allow children to have a wide range of activities throughout the day, and not just specialize in one area. One aspect that I find to be really nice is that the camp is family owned and run, and always has been. This allows for an extremely personalized experience. The camp is all outdoors, and children will learn to appreciate nature, and they will make new friendships that last a lifetime. Kids remember their great expereinces at Valley Mill Camp forever. I know I will. RID: 23896
