My two daughters grew up at Camp Pembroke. They learned life skills that helped them grow into successful adults. They learned the true meaning of sisterhood while making friendships that will last a lifetime!

I wish the ratings for Camp Pembroke went higher than good. Pembroke is my daughters home away from home where their amazing summer sisters live all together in one happy place! The directors go above and beyond and treat your children like their own. All of the staff are just as amazing and family. My daughters count down the days until it is time for camp. Pembroke really thinks of every detail, they are attentive to every child and their needs, always having new and creative activities and so much more. I would highly recommend camp pembroke and know it would leave a lifetime of amazing memories.

Pembroke is top notch! From the supportive directors and other new leadership team members to the relationships my daughters fostered, I couldn’t ask for a better environment. She even loved the food! The activities were also a huge bonus

I am an adult who has worked at several summer camps. Overall, Pembroke is not a good choice. Pros: Specialty areas are well organized. Scheduling allows girls to experience a variety of activities, with increased specialization as they get older and excellent lead teachers in some areas. There is a strong sense of tradition and pride for camp. Cons: There is an exclusive attitude from older campers and staff against new community members. Latent homophobia was expressed by campers and some counselors, and there was not a will among administration to address it. Socials with other camps encouraged inappropriate behavior between boys and girls and had insufficient supervision. Shabbat services included implicitly sanctioned disrespectful behavior (bottom pinching while singing songs, eg). Asking for help was met with ridicule. Some area supervisors were inappropriate with those they supervised. Traditions are entrenched to the exclusion of trying new things or acknowledging new voices.

As a former counselor, I warn you to stay away. It is not a place you want to work for. The management treats you like a child. For the parents, this place is not safe at all. I am not talking about the psychological tortures some of these bratty bullies will put your kid through. I am talking about staff members smoking weed and drinking (some of them were life guards on duty). Yes the management knows about this. We had an assembly where the management straight up told the staff to get rid of your stash within today and we won't ask questions. Hahaha and the "mentor" thing with highschool campers and middle school campers are disgusting. I caught one of them telling the younger ones about what semen taste like. Oh and the activities? It was one of the most unorganized classes I taught in my life. Honestly, I have no idea how this is non profit. Where the hell do they spend the money? The bunks are falling apart. Oh and the culture? The Israelis counselors find the services as jokes.

I went for 5 years, its an illusion. If your child is quiet, a late bloomer, different, diverse, or a freethinker in any way- don't send them here. The girls are snobby and mean. I came out of the 5 years with some good memories. I honestly thought that I loved the camp- but it was just what I got used to. It just got worse and worse over time. The whole summer sister thing makes you want to come back. But I bullied so bad and didn't realize it at the time, and looking back I see how much**** I really put up with with those so called sisters. A girl was kicked out of camp only after SEVEN years of being horrible to others, but think of all the five years I had to put up with her and the rest of her "sexy seven" clique (Mean Girls, anyone?). The good things I remember are the Jewish aspects- beautiful song, dance, culture, as well as independence that I got. Activities are fun. I had a few true friends and some girls in other bunks were ok. But maybe look elsewhere.

Both of my daughters attended Pembroke, one for 3 years and one for 1. Unfortunately, we found that the camp was not a good fit for our otherwise happy but more serious kids...especially our older girl (7th grade). She found many of the girls to be mean and cliquish and chose not to stay for a full summer as planned. We were also underwhelmed with the low key staff response and caring to our inquiries...especially from the Director and other senior staff. We were also concerned that when our younger girl repeatedly visited the infirmary that we weren't informed and didn't get timely replies to our calls/inquiries once we learned what was happening through letters. The camp activities, facilities, etc. while not as modern as some other competitors were all fine/well done. Our main concern is about the atmosphere allowed to prevail as the girls mature. Neither of my girls is returning.

this is my favorite place on this planet i am so sad this is almost my last year some girls are mean, but nobody tolerates it and the conselors are really nice. they have israeli councelors so girls get a look at around the world. the cabins are nice, there are individual showers in the bunk.

When I signed my daughter up for Pembroke, I had hoped she would come home as a stronger individual having tried new activities and experienced things that we cannot give her at home. Unfortunately, this is not what happened. I do not think that she was pushed at all to try new things and was in a bunk with 15 other girls so individual attention and encouragement was lacking. It would not be right for me to say she had a bad summer, but I think that there was a lot of girl drama and cattiness that I was hoping she could avoid in a camp environment.

This summer my daughter spent her first summer at camp Pembroke. I was completely taken aback when she told me she overheard her counselors speaking about "smoking pot" on their nights out. I tried speaking to administration about it but they did not believe me. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE.

Camp Pembroke is the best camp ever. You make life long friends. The first year i went i came back asking my parents if i could go all seven weeks. There your summer sisters. Camp is my home away from camp. I wish i could go there year round. There are seven agegroups. The 3 oldest agegroups get to go on overnight field trips to Attitash, Marthas Vinyard, And Club getaway. We also take day trips. If you have trouble making friends at school you will have no problem. You should send your daughters here. Love Camp Pembroke

I went this year, for my first year. It was amazing! Its the best camp I've ever been to. The staff are so nice and caring, everyone is so welcoming. Camp pembroke friends are like your summer sisters. The activities were great. Waterskiing is a watersport you may want to try (although the boat is broken often) I love camp pembroke! Sned your daughters here, they'll love it!!!

My daughter (NOT from MA) has been going for 6 years and feels a life long connection to the girls who have become her family. Her sense of connection to judiasm has been enhanced. The girls are very down to earth and accepting of everyone new. Perfect place for a girl to spend her summer.

Y'Rush 09!! I love camp. The girls here become family. In addition, their not just my summer sisters, they are also there for me through out the year, and I love them. This will be my sixth year, and I would recommend this to any girl, but I suggest they start at a young age, and they can develop life long friendships easier.

I have had a lot of problems with people at school. But when I am at camp, nothing at home matters. I have started to look at camp like my real home and my house here is my home away from home. Also, these girls are not jappy. One of my best friends is like legit, wicked rich and the first summer I had no idea that she had a lot of money. Nobody cares. I love camp. I love camp. I love camp!!! TSFAT '08!!!! YEAH BABBBYYYYYYYYY!

This is my 8th summer at Camp Pembroke, my first ever being a counselor! I must say, this place has changed my life forever. No where else can you be yourself and make such true friends as at camp. Shabbats at camp are so special so much fun. If you want to send your daughter to a place where she won't have to worry about appearances and she can just let loose and be herself, Camp Pembroke is the place. JC's 07!

Unless you live in Massacusetts and are able to see your camp friends often, dont go here - the girls are extremely cliquey and dont accept outsiders.

horrible...just horrible. its the PEOPLE! why don't people understand that camp is not about facilities or activities or food or if its traditional. sleepaway camps are all about the people. and if i do say so myself, the girls are jappy. someone said "i was accepted in their circle of friends." yeah well what if you're not? think about that before you send your girls to pembroke.

Honestly, going to camp was probably the best decsion i ever could have made. I started off going into 5th grade and i though that the girls would be cliquey but i was accepted into their circle of friends. I have made friends that are the nicest girls anyone could ever meet. Without camp, i wouldn't be the girl i am today. Camp has taught me that you can't get along with everybody but there are some things that you need to overcome in life. Don't think twice. Send your girls to Pembroke now and make the best choice you could ever make for them.

this is a great camp to make lasting friendships and memories that will last forever. i pretty much love it and i've been going for 5 years. you have to start early though. it's expensive, but compared to most overnight camps, its about the same. you also learn a lot of jewish culture without even realizing it. The only bad part of this camp is how jappy it is but besides that, pembroke is my second home. i <3 my brokies

Unless you've been going to camp here since you were 6to be shunned by the snotty girls here. they are cliquey, obnoxious, and spoiled. And the counselors are just older versions of the campers.
