Click to report rating    7/10/22   2     2     3     1     1   Equestrian camp. Thought it was four days, dropped off WEd. night picked up Sat. morning. Bad monetary value. Stood outside for 1.5 hours in 109 heat index. Water came out after 45 minutes. Then they take their temperature inside??!!Needed 2-3 times more people for checkin to speed up the process. My daughter had special needs. I called and talked to Director of Equestrian camp. She failed to pass any of the information on to counselors or anyone else who worked with her and the horses. One day she had 3 minutes to eat breakfast. We were told because of heat they would sleep in air conditioned building. No - they didn't. I have very little good to say bout this experience. Click to report rating    7/25/12   4     3     3     3     3   this well be my 7th time going to camp lakewood. i go every year and i love it and hope i will love it this year too but they have changed so many things my sister has told me! i don't know if it is worth going next year but i will find out this week! I'm still excited but i don't know what is gonna happen.. i bet it will still be fun but maybe not as much. this will be my second year in east camp and i loved it there last year. they give you so much freedom and you have a camp dance which is so fun!the bummer about it is that it is so hot up there so i would recommend bringing a fan or one that you can clip on to your bedside. and that it is kinda far to walk but you get used to it throughout the week. the food their is really good i think, and they also offer vegetarian and vegan food because they get a lot of campers and counselors. i love how the staff is world wide and how they are all nice! the camp is pretty pricey but it is worth it i think. the actives there are pretty fun to.      5/1/12   3     1     4     2     1   I stayed on the east camp. It was horrible all the cabins were dirty and dark. Some of the cabins had wasp nest in there cabins and some had dead mice in them and one had a dead racoon. Not to mention all the bugs and we found a frog in the shower! It was not pleasant. We had to walk to the bathrooms they were not in the cabins. Also, the staff on the east side was not very nice, I don't think they like kids or their job. The activities were fun but that was about it and the Archery leader was very mean and yelled at me because I didn't understand his directions. The only nice staff we met was the owner and the staff from the other side of the camp. My mom asked me if I wanted to go back and I said no way. I am glad to be home. RID: 40933
Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   This is honestly one of the best camps i have ever been to , and I have been to 31. The staff is soooooo kind and always there for you. The food is really good, and the activities are outstanding. They have archery, canoeing, kayaking, rifelry, horsemanship, snorkeling, sailing, swimming, arts and crafts, freindship bracelets, soccer gaga, drama, outdoor living skills, nature, hiking, tennis, game clinic, basketball, rock climbing, zip lines, rope tower, and much, much more. Plz dont listen to the haters, its a wonderful camp! RID: 40414

6/25/11   3     5     2     1     1   I went to Lakewood from ages 10 to 12, I think I went a total of five times. I love it when I was there, but when I discovered another camp (Miniwanca) I realized how awful it was. The staff is okay, some are kind of trashy-from-the-middle-of-nowhere-in-Missouri, but the international staff is cool. The facilities were very nice, but what's the fun? Camp isn't about electricity of AC...You never felt like you were roughing it, you were there for 5 days and there were 4 showers. In your cabin. For five girls. It's really not a camp at all. The activities were sooo boring. Did I mention you have to go everywhere in threes? Well you do...Even if a seventeen year-old has to use the bathroom downstairs they have to bring two buddies. They enforce no values either, they make you sing a "Superman Grace" before meals. Overall, it was super lame camp with no spirit or anything that would be influential, like one-on-one time or spiritual time. And it is made like the Hilton Hotel. Stay away. RID: 36207

Click to report rating    1/5/11   3     4     2     3     2   I was in east camp this year and I hated it! Daytona and COCO were my UDs and COCO was kool but Daytona thought her poo didnt stink. She was only nice to the really popular girls she knew from before. The cabins were fine by be, I liked when it rained on the tin roofs, And overnights were fun but other than that it wasnt really that great. The same old activities that I could honestly go out and do by myself, nothing special. My couselor was kinda nice but didnt pay much attention to getting to know us. I dont know how much it cost but I dont think its worth my parents money for me to go back. Right now Im searching for other camps to go to. If you are over 10 years old, dont wast your time with Lakewood if you are serious about the camp experience....this place has NO spirit! RID: 34712

7/8/10   2     2     1     2     2   The staff made promises they knew they couldn't keep. All of the activities I was looking forward to I was told I was too young or my cabin of girly girls didn't want to pick them for our group activity. No one tells you all of the age restrictions. The camp is very pricy for what it is. There services for children with special needs need much improvement. RID: 33270
Click to report rating    6/11/09   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVE Camp Lakewood. In east Camp the cabins are kinda crappy... but it's camping. what do you expect? The staff is really nice & most are very funny. Lakewood is practically my second home!!! RID: 30012
Click to report rating    5/11/09   2     2     2     2     2   It was ok, but I hated it cause the counselors were kinda snarkie, it was jenky. I mean, it costs outrageously expensive. And uh, the food sucked. You say what you like, but I've been to a lot of other camps where everyone is closer and more loving and it rocked, so this place is nothing special. And the personal attention time SUCKED. Ugh, I'm never going here again. At one camp, if it was rated on here, you'd have your head knocked off and handed to you for badmouthing it, that's how tight we all are. So whatever, Camp Lakewood. RID: 29727

Click to report rating    2/5/09   5     5     5     5     4   this camp is really cool!!!! the staff is nice and they are super fun about everything!! even though it is on the expensive side, its basically worth it!!! i hope you will go!! RID: 28854
Click to report rating    10/16/08   5     4     4     4     5   I went for 2 years 07 and 08. During the 07 summer they offered a better selection of activities, they were laking on 08 becasue some of their equipment was starting to break (ex: mountain biking, windsurfing, and some of the more high end activities) overall, camp lakewood is one of the best camps i have ever attended and i will continue to go as long as i am young enough. RID: 27074
Click to report rating    5/13/08   5     4     5     5     5   This camp is fantastic! The facilities, though old, are well maintained and historical. The staff is phenomenal. They give so much time and personal attention to each of the children, ensuring that thier needs are met and voices are heard. To give up their whole summer to help children become better leaders and individuals truly make them heros. RID: 23121
Click to report rating    4/8/08   4     5     2     3     3   Staff tend to vary greatly, at least in the year I was there (2007), due to midseason turnover and replacements. As the summer wore on, counselors got better and better, but the ad staff got lax. Activities unrealistically foucs on instruction rather than participation, and the assistant program directors acted as though an all camp game was nigh impossible. However, supervision was top notch, and they do have a child behavior specialist on staff, a real plus. Overall the staff has years of experience, and being under new direction this year I'm sure they'll make some improvements in the program. RID: 22100
Click to report rating    3/7/08   5     2     4     4     3   well...Lakewood was ok, but the cabins were dirty and the food was kind of greasy and fattening. the staff was amazing, and counselors were great. i certainly wouldnt go back. RID: 21021

Click to report rating    3/6/07   5     4     5     5     5   I sent both of my sons there last year. Everything was just fantastic. The camp seemed to anticipate every need. The information provided prior to arrival was really helpful. We can't wait for camp this year! We'll be going there for years to come. RID: 8347

Click to report rating    11/11/06   5     5     3     4     3   Fun camp but is it really needed to have the highest swimming level to go canoeing? You're wearing a life jacket! Archery is fun though. RID: 4883
