It's expensive but well worth the price. The children are well taken care of and have access to the best of everything but they are not pampered or spoiled. We couldn't be happier!

Great camp! This is the best all boys camp in the northeast! I know people might think it is far because it is in Maine but it is well worth it instead of any closer camp!

My son went there for his first time last summer for the first session and is going back for the whole summer this time. He is an average athlete with interest in music as well. He did not find it overly competitive and loved being part of the team. I don't think anyone makes you feel bad for your performance but encourage you to do your best. He loved making his own schedule and learned to water ski and was inspired to do a play for the first time. There are so many different activities to choose from and the instruction level and facilities are awesome. It is not just a sports camp like Takajo or Cedar--- there are many other things to do but you have to like sports and participate in color war and college league but they make it really fun!

This is THE best camp ever. I go there and couldn't be happier. It is a sports based camp with tons of athletic fields and facilities. The focal point of Manitou competition comes in the form of "College League" and "Color War." In both competitions, the camp is divided into 4/2 teams which will compete against each other. College League last 6 weeks so you really get to know your team as you compete for them twice or three times a week in athletic events and once a week in a supplementary event (ie..scavenger hunt). Although it doesn't take up all of your time, College League is an incredible bonding experience. Each team also performs one play which is judged and earns points for your team and the end of College League is marked by a night in which 3 songs and a skit are preformed by each team. Color War is a lot of the same although it only lasts four days and you compete all day, it is almost like the army as there are very strict rules you must follow. In all - go maroon and gray!

Camp Manitou made me the person I am today...the world of camp manitou keeps you sheltered from the realities of the real world for 2 months out of the year.

Perception often lags reality. Manitou experienced a rocky transition when the venerable Marcus family sold the camp to a couple long-time campers a decade ago, but the camp has reached new heights during the last three summers, and it only seems to be getting better. Ownership is truly committed to making Manitou the greatest place in the world. In the last year they have built a new state-of-art creative center, infirmiry, office and have just broken ground on a 15,000-ft indoor sports complex. If you are grooming your son to be a professional athlete, there are probably better places to send him for the summer. But if you want him to be experience a balance of athletic, waterfront and creative activities while basking in an incredibly supportive happy environment, Manitou is the place to go. Just realize that once you send him there, he won't ever want to stop going.

since the ownership changed in the late 90's this camp has increased in popularity due to the younger directors who seem to be more in touch with the youth of today. it's a shame that the girls camp down from them can't be run in the same manner.
