6/23/15   3     2     2     2     3   My boys just came back from a school trip at Tanamakoon. I was really disappointed to hear that one of the camp counselors had been rude and not nice at all. (Why work there if you're not happy to be with kids?) The teacher's cabins and girls' cabins were newer and nicer than the boys' cabins. (why not upgrade all of them?)My son asked for a second snack and was not allowed. They loved the canoeing but only allowed to do it once. For the money we paid, I expected a little more from this camp and disappointed to hear they didn't love it. RID: 48769

9/1/12   5     4     4     5     5   My summers at Tanamakoon have been some of my most positive and formative experiences. I honestly could not fathom spending my summers anywhere else. The staff are wonderful dedicated people and as an older camper, they become your friends. The activities are fun and engaging, especially when you're working on a higher award. The food is delicious too. Even my least favourite meals are still pretty good and there is always something for you to eat. Even though one year, my cabin request forms were lost and I was not placed in a cabin with my friends, to no fault of the camp, I still had an enjoyable experience due to the wonderful people at Tan. My summers at Tan have taught me many things about others and even more about myself. These lessons are gifts that I doubt I could have learned without summer camp. There's nothing quite a special as a friend of summer days... RID: 42561

2/23/12   4     4     5     3     5   I went to this camp three summers. My first summer there were a lot of bullies in my cabin and one girl was victimized and teased the whole time. The second year I had a great bunk and made great friends and my third year was in the middle. The counselors are nice but sometimes ignore campers if they have night time needs. The evening activities are great and the activities teach a lot. The food was pretty good and there were options for everyone. Overall, a great camp!! RID: 40382

Click to report rating    11/14/10   2     1     1     3     3   I went to Tanamakoon for my first year. On the bus ride their there were only snotty people and the councellors only cared for the returning girls. I came with two friends which was good but if they weren't there then the bus ride would of been a disaster. The bus ride is long and the actual bus was disgusting. Everyone was afriad to go to the bathroom. When you get there, there is a 15 minute trek through the woods to the camp while you are carrying all of your bags. The cabins/tents aren't nice they ge up to 35 degrees celcius during the day. There is also mice and racoons that come into your cabin. The councellors don't really care. All around the Big Cabin people write inappropriate bmessages and drawings. The food was pretty good but the bathrooms there were compost which meant that you could smell the**** from your cabin 50ft away. Also you weren't allowed to take a shower only like MAX 4x in 2 weeks. The facilities sucked. There was nothing to do there. Barely any activities. RID: 34426

6/8/10   4     2     3     4     2   I was a camper a couple years ago and I did not really enjoy the experience. Although the staff members were very supportive and helpful, the campers were not. I was a two week camper and the whole time, people in my cabin were disagreeing. Also, the four week campers who had the same counsellor did not treat us nicely. Also, we were forced to take swimming lessons even if we passed the test. This kept us from doing the activities that we really wanted to do. We were only allowed to take one shower each week for a couple minutes each. The showers were small and took a long time getting warm, and the toilets were not flushable. Overall, I did not think that it was worth the money. RID: 32944

2/20/10   5     5     5     5     5   Tanamkoon is an excellent camp for girls. I was both a camper and a staff member there and know that the camp really cares about the happiness and well-being of their campers. Tanamakoon strives to have every camper reach their potential and gain an appreciation for both the people and the nature around them. I loved my years at Tan and hope that I'll have daughters some day so I can send them to Tan. RID: 32221

Click to report rating    11/21/07   5     5     5     5     5   Tanamakoon is everything to me!This will be my 10th summer and I am SO excited. The activities at camp is really fun and there are some really cool all camp programs such as on Canada Day, Battle, The Musical and special days at activities. The Tripping program is so much fun. I have been on a Two Week Trip and also a Month trip and both of them were experiences I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The Staff plan really fun e.p.s (evening Programs) and they are all really fun to be around. Also, camp friends are people who you will remember for the rest of your life. They area all some of the most amazing people I will ever meet and I am really happy to have them as a part of my life. at Tanamakoon, you really discover the girl within and become mor comfortable with your self and also learn so much about yourself. Tanamakoon is by far my favorite place in the world and I look forward to the end of June because that can only mean -TIME TO GET OUT YOUR GREEN AND GO TO CAMP! RID: 17321
Click to report rating    11/11/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is everything to me. The friends I have made will last with me for life. The staff care so much about campers wellbeing and happiness, campers feel like their little sisters. The food is delicious. The facilities are traditional, and the maintenance staff is very attentive. Camp is about learning and growing and I have learned more important things at Tanamakoon than I have in my entire education. RID: 16987

Click to report rating    9/20/07   3     4     3     5     4   I love this camp because of the amazing friends I have made over the years but it doesn't have activities that are really cool like some other camps and there is mostly composting toilets. The staff is half amazing and half awful but if your looking for a down-to-earth place with great friends this place is great RID: 15486

Click to report rating    7/29/07   5     5     5     5     5   OmG i loveeeddd tan! it was so muchh funnn!i thought it wouldnt b funn because it was all girls, but my sis was going and my mom wanted me to go to, but boy as i wrong IT WAS SOOOOO muchh FUN! they give you alot of freedom and you can choose what you want to do apart from swimming lessons and you also hae alot of free time just to relax in the cabins!the food is GREAT at tan, and its healthy too because we have salad bar @ lunch every day and wow if i had the chance to describe it in one word it would be Fun, i had the best time of my life there, and made new friends and i cant wait for it next year/ tomorrow( im leaving for tan in 23 hours and 2 minutes) i just CANT wait! RID: 13387
Click to report rating    7/22/07   2     4     3     2     1   I don't like this camp at all it is not nice. The staff isn't nice and the food isn't nice and they make you do swimming lessons first thing in the morning sometimes. You have absolutely no say in what activities you do unless you're older. It's a very strict camp and feels more like school than summer camp. I don't see why anyone likes this place. It's stupid and the canoe trips are way too hard. I would never reccommend this camp to anyone. Go to Wabikon! RID: 13192
Click to report rating    6/15/07   5     5     5     5     5   camp wAs so fun and staff was amazing. food wa GRRRRRRRREAT and russle is the coolset councler Jeff RID: 12070
Click to report rating    6/10/07   5     3     2     5     3   I have been going to tanamakoon for eight years now, and if you're interested in helping your daughter to build lasting relationships, this is the place to send her.She will meet amazing friends who will be with her for her lifetime, however, tanamakoon does have some shortcomings. It is a very traditional camp and it does not have very many activity options, and those that are availible become boring as the girls get older. There is a lot of emphasis on structure and gaining "awards" which can add stress to a place where young girls should just be able to have fun. I personally think that the costs for this camp are too expensive, and you pay way too much for what you get (although, the food service and tripping are excellent).I would not continue to return to this camp if i had not started young and made such amazing friends, because i would be lost without them for a whole summer. I love this camp, but for the people in it and the environment, not the strict rules. RID: 11801
Click to report rating    2/12/07   4     5     5     5     5   i love tan!!<3 I made best friends there and it definately made me feel sooo happy like all the time. It defiantely attracts a certain group of girls and if you go there thinking youre just too cool and you are better than everyone, you will have no fun. but i went there and even though my counseller and cabinmates sucked i made AMAZING friends with other girls and practically lived in their tent and loved their counseller! I can't wait to go back. It is like a whole other world away from your life. especially when you go to a rich private school and all the girls are so out to impress each other. You can definately be yourself there!! TAN is actually my favourite place and i get homesick for tan! RID: 7745
Click to report rating    1/22/07   5     5     5     5     5   Tan welcomed as a camper 6 years ago and i have never looked back. tan is my summer home and i miss it everyday while i'm away. it is the most supportive atmosphere for every girl, anti bullying, self esteem, leadership and a love for the environment are emphasized at every age. each girl who comes is changed and leaves a new and better person. it is impossible to not learn something about yourself while you are there. the staff is loving and attentive to each camper and with a small camper to counselor ratio each girl is made to feel as though she matters.      11/14/06   4     1     3     5     3   This is a VERY traditional camp, that is very set in its ways.Unfortunately, many of the older campers become bored, which has lead to the camp being dominated by the 7-11 set.The activities are not very interesting, which also leaves many teenagers bored. The camp owner is constantly vying for the attention of younger girls, and is looked upon in disgust by the rest of the camp. This is a good camp for very young girls, and will get them to love camp, but they won't want to come back when they're 13 unless theyve made some VERY good friends. Also much too strict in terms of male (tripper) contact, which leads to promiscuity among the staff. RID: 4978
Click to report rating    10/7/06   5     5     5     5     5   rocks my sox off best camp in the whole world last year i got 8 awards ive been there for 2 year and im going back I LOVE IT IT SO AWESOME RID: 3815

Click to report rating    8/4/06   5     5     5     5     5   Tanamakoon is a place that has changed my life. It truly is my summer home, my favorite place on earth! The people you will meet will change your life, the friendships will fill your brain with amazing memories. No words in teh word could describe the time you spend at Tanamakoon, wether your there for 2 days or 2 months the time spent is priceless. When your lying in bed just after singing taps, you look back on the day that you have just had. Filled with laughs, friends, games and a beautiful atmosphere. You see the love in the eyes of each camper everyday you there, the pure joy that comes from each one. Nothing is sadder then leaving day, when campers and counselor must say goodbye to there summer friends. Tanamakoon will forever be in my heart, camp life is one much mroe glorious then normal life. Love and friendship are a huge aspect, your never a lone at Tanamakoon, never lonely or unloved. If your thinking about sending your daighter to Tanamakoon, do it. IT IS LIFE CHANGING!!! RID: 1805
Click to report rating    7/15/06   5     5     5     5     5   Tanamakoon was the best overnight camp although I had a bad time my first week it wasn't the camps fault I was just really homesick but once I got used to my cabin, cabin-mates and counselors it was AMAZINGx10000. There was sailing, swimming, canoing and crafts (this is only a few) Although, it is slightly pricey, $1000, for 2 weeks it was soo cool but there was this really mean "Little Chief" who I hated it was all in all a great experience. I did not return to camp Tanamakoon the next year but it was fun!! But I definitley give 2 thumbs up! Gothere and you'll have a terrific time. Try and get Claire as a counselor she rox my sox! RID: 1414
Click to report rating    6/28/06   5     4     4     5     5   my friends were great, but since im not going back and they all live in canada and i live in the US, i probably wont see them ever again. but i personally didnt like how you had to take swim lessons becasue we were grouped by this ability thing thats only in canada so even though im a really good swimmer i was in a low group with bad swimmers and i just ended up moving all the way up anyway. someone else said it was a b****y rich girl camp but its really not at all. its very traditional and its not even expensive. i think it was fun and it was a lot more laid back than im used to seeing as im from a very wealthy type-a new england town, so it was a great change, but i did end up missing home a lot because of BUG SCREENS AND A/C but also just because of home-sickness. also its annoying hows theres a uniform. but if ur canadian, laid-back, like swimming lessons, dont mind boiling nights and freezing mornings, this would be a great place for you. SCORER IS THE BEST CIT EVER!!!! RID: 1207
Click to report rating    6/10/06   5     5     5     5     5   I loved Tan so much i could marry it. when i say to ppl that i go to an all girls camp they say that sucks but its sooo fun cause you van just be yourself and not worry about looking nice. My friends also think it seems like a ****y rich girl camp which i guess it kind of is but i still love it so much and theres a great friendship that a bunch of ****y rich girls can make when theres no guys around. THANK YOU MARY G HAMILTON I LOVE YOU AND TANNY RID: 759
